“Ideal hotel on the lovely Isle of Ibiza”
Reviewed 24 September 2012

This is my third stay in this hotel, and although in the past few years it has changed companies.
The hotel is as good as ever.
The food is excellent and you would be really hard to please if you didn't like what was on offer as there is so much choice!
However as there is still a recession going on - things have been a little bit more expensive not just in the hotel the resort as well. People seem to be a little bit more careful with their penniesI would reccommend this hotel and is in a prime location in Es Cana.

Room Tip: The rooms in the older building seem to be a little bit smaller than the new building.

My girlfriend and I stayed here in the last 2 weeks of August. I often stay in 4 and 5 star hotels in the UK and Europe on business. The welcome on arrival was excellent although I have never stayed in a hotel with a 20 euro safe charge. I was a little taken aback at this. The rooms were as I would expect for the money we had paid. Yes there was little storage, yes the view was poor, yes the bathroom was tiny, yes the beds were crap, But we didn't plan on spending much time in the room and we didn't pay that much for the holiday. On our first day it was 43 degrees. As we arrived in the early hours We did retreat from the pool earlier (4pm). What a mistake. The air conditioning was non existent, I have never prespired so much in my life. This was unacceptable and dangerous being as most people in the hotel were elderly. If budget hotels in the UK can maintain perfectly functioning air conditioning Then this shouldn't be an issue in Ibiza at the height of the summer. They should be experts. Profit may be a priority here above service.

We had no issues with food and eating arrangements, food was excellent quality and there was a good selection.

The pool and pool area were good. It's clear the hotel has expanded but the pool area has not. There is not enough room or sunbeds to cater for all guests. This leaves guests with no option but to get up at silly o clock to reserve a sun bed. To be honest I didn't see anybody reserving beds then leaving them for long periods. it was a case of first Come first served. Not particularly what I want on holiday so we went to the beach most days.

Entertainment overall and things to do locally was pretty poor. The ferry to Ibiza town is 16 euro per person and takes ages. Get a taxi it takes 20 minutes and will cost about 40 euro return.

Es Cana itself seems to be being ruined by all inclusive. The resort is oriented towards families, my impression was people stay in their hotels, the few bars and restaurants in es Cana were pretty empty in the evenings, in fact in two we were the only occupants. except Charlie's which was busy and rather like the pool you can't get a seat unless you are their super early. Es Cana overall seemed busy at about 8 30 pm. All inclusive brigade would go for a walk for an hour then head back to their hotels. Quite worrying for local businesses being as this was peak season.

All in all this was a very different hotel experience to what I am used to. It is full of British whom at times are just damned right rude and ignorant. Quite happy to push you out of the way at the Buffet or use bad language if you get Within 2 metres of them at the pool. These people are of pensionable age I was ashamed to be British. All rather benidorm series like but I think I would rather watch the series. Last year i stayed in a spa hotel in bavaria whilst on business, the hotel was also a rehab hotel for the elderly. It was a pleasure to speak with these people, There was mutual respect. We had a good time but I would never go back or recommend es Cana. If all the hotels become all inclusive it will become a lot of hotels who will have to do nothing to compete for your money and do even less to keep you happy.

Never again.

This is a great hotel so don't believe the negative comments, some people live to moan. The hotel is lovely, the food is very good with an amazing variety, you won't go hungry, the only negative thing is that as a lactose intolerant person they could do with a bit more signs for dairy free products. The hotels cleanliness is excellent, could not find fault. The staff from the reception to the waiters to the cleaners were all very friendly and
helpfull. The rooms were comfortable and had all you could want.
I went with my partner for a week returning on the 22 sep, weather was amazing, es canar was beautiful and the hotel was excellent. Will be stopping their again soon.

We really enjoyed our holiday and hope to go back to the same place one day, The hotel was in a great location, almost on the seafront and in the middle of the shops. rooms were spotlessly clean, only one small down side no drawers! but they will be adding these soon, so we were told, food was great, buffet style with a big choice, Very large swimming pool with plenty of sun beds there is also a gym, sauna and steam room , and the staff are friendly and helpful. what more could you ask for? suitable for older couples as it is a Thomson Gold hotel.

First of all our room was 307 in the old block of this hotel over looking the pool, good view of the outside area but at the back end of the stage so if you was looking forward to seeing the entertainment from your balcony you won't but on the plus side the volume is less, and you can still watch whats going on as we did and enjoy. In general we thought the entertainment was very good by hotel standards also there's a lounge bar at the front beach side that has very good artist's on a fri/sat/sun night's I would recommend listening to these.
Back to the room, our room was of a reasonable size very clean and nicely decorated tele old type but more brit channels than most if you want to watch tele, now that dreaded a/c just about handled the heat the room was fine until 3.00 pm then the sun hit you,but that's what you go for after the sun goes down it's fine, night time the a/c was o/k.The bath room is small and would be a problem if your on the large size not a lot of room to move around in,the bed is firm but not hard, and store-rage for clothes was enough for us.
Restaurant:we was going in for food at 8.30 for breakfast and 8.00 for dinner no problems at all, the food quality, choice and amount was in our opinion at the top end for hotel food.1 tip sit on the upper level as the a/c is not up to the job and in really hot weather would be pretty unbearable, it is a bit cooler sat on the upper level.staff very good throughout the hotel also thomson reps are based there and again very helpful.the age group that stay's here as you've read in previous reviews are mostly retired and come's back year after year so the hotel must be keeping them happy. You've read previously what's around in the area, just one little bit of information we did the coastal walk to santa eulalia a lovely walk but it gets a bit iffy as you get towards the end you need to be nimble on your feet it takes about 2 hrs nice beaches on the way and places to rest, if you're up for it then I recommend this for a morning walk before it gets to hot and get a bus back.
We had a good holiday all round and would go back to panaramar but they do need to sort out a/c in restaurant .

What talented proffesional people they are, Kimberley, Johnny, Alex, David, Becky and Jo. We watched Mia Mama, We love the movies, One fine day and Johnnys, Bex and Alex's caberet at the Panorama and Ses Estaques, they are all fit for the West End! Not only having worked hard all day entertaining guests at each Hotel they then provide a first class show that you would pay to see at a Theatre, they are all highly suited to Cruise Entertainment in the future! The rappore with guests is wonderful, they deliver it with style and passion, credit must go to Kimberley for leading and managing a brilliant team always pushing for perfection. I am a liitle saddened that some guests refer to the team as Thomsons Reps, which quite frankly is an insult, these are proffesional actors/actresses who have gained degrees in Musical Theatre and auditioned for these jobs, they then go on to train before flying to their destinations, there is a huge difference between a Thomsons Rep and an Entertainer. It is well worth staying in either Hotel for the entertianment alone! If you have yet to book in either Hotel, you are in for a lovely surprise when you meet these talented gorgeous people. my boyfriend and i stayed at this hotel between the 15th and the 22nd august this year, we had been there in 2005 and had a lovely time so we thought we would go back and see the thing's we missed last time .
GOOD POINTS
(1) The ferry to ibiza town only 16 euros each return and well worth it , though take sea sick tablets if like me you get queasy it helps.
(2) The little train outside the marina hotel , we went on the afternoon tour at 15.30 to 18.30 to the farmhouse and church , cant remember the lady's name that guided us but it was a very good trip and worth the money.
(3) The staff at the hotel were again very helpful and friendly esp maria the maid.
BAD POINTS
(!) AIR COM VERY VERY POOR we were roasting and no exaggeration there , last time we were there it was lovely ice cold, think they paid for the refurb and forgot to gas the aircom, we had maintenance man to our room not once but twice and it was still no better and spoilt what otherwise would have been a lovely holiday .
(2)we emailed to see if we could have the same room 329 if not something not to high as i don't like height's we were giving 527 not only the top but also on the corner and it was a sweat box, also could not go out on to the balcony as it was to high, we complained and the next day had a choice of two on the first floor we took room 103 on the corner which was a corner room but bigger balcony, but if you stand at the edge of the balcony you will realize the kitchen roof is the other side ,noisy when they are in there cooking but quite funny to listen too.
(3) Why charge 20 euros for a safe when its already there and all they have to do is give you the key and its 15 euros for the internet and the only place we got a signal was in the lounge another sweat box
(4) the so called refurb has taken away the drawers that were under the shelf by the beds PUT THEM BACK people want somewhere to put smaller items , not have to find places in the wardrobe
so come on thomson there were loads of complaints about the air com probably still is , and sorry to say we are never going gold or thomson again and will not return to this hotel esp as this hotel is going all inclusive next year be interesting to see if safes and wifi are free or will that be extra too.?????????????????????????????
