“Average Thomson Gold”
Reviewed 19 September 2013

I have been to many Thomson Gold hotels and was informed that Hotel Panorama at Es Canar was THE BEST. Sorry folks but is was not. We decided on this hotel as we were going with another couple (daughter and son-in-law) who were younger than ourselves and had never been to a Gold hotel. The entertainment was not up to the standard of other Gold hotels. We were there for a week and the Rep Entertainment were on 3 times - all which we have seen last year in Majorca. Can't remember the name of a girl singer and her accompany sax/flute player but it was embarrassing to watch - OMG what was she on - beyond belief terrible. It seems to me too many people for the space and sunbeds as others have mentioned very hard to get a sunbed after 9.30. So busy in the restaurant but a variety of food which was good. Es Canar not for me. The room we were in 3020 was very basic needed some work doing to it. Holes in walls where handles of bath were situated. The room was overlooking side street. This street was decked with wood all the way down to reception and so continually when people were coming/going which was all times all days all you could hear was the suitcases clump clump clump over the wooden decking. Wasn't very safe walking on this decking needs to be pulled up and relayed with paving stones. Sorry folks want be going back.

The resort of Es Cana is a semi picturesque relaxing resort with a mixture of mainly English, Spanish, German and Scandanavian visitors - with the added bonus of publicly available toilets on the beach, very impressive for a Spanish resort (but bring your own loo roll if required.
A multitude of bars and restaurants to cover many tastes - even if the Spanish do pander to us Brits too much showing X Factor and Premier League and Champions League football. There are quieter bars off the beaten track.

The hotel - The hotel staff are very welcoming, reception, maid service, breakfast and dinner service very impressive. All the Thomson Reps there really lift the atmosphere of the hotel far beyond what it deserves and Adam and Shannon's entertainment is creative and highly amusing and hilarious at times - top draw!

The rooms are generally spacious(ish) apart from the the end rooms which are tight, the balconies generous with facilities in some rooms to dry clothes on balconies if you have a room facing the sun at some point during the day (which we did not).

The hotel is clean and tidy, the public seating areas by the bar, pool and cooler piano area are extensive. Good working lifts and other hotel facilities are well maintained.
The dining area and its staff are attentive and very helpful. The pool bar and bar areas appeared to be a little understaffed as it took ages to get served at times, bear that in mind. The restaurants on the streets are far more attentive and produce better coffee.

The only problem are some of the residents, the age range is varied at times but mainly people 50-60+ In places it does feel like an old peoples home carefully dodging them at breakfast and dinner. Many are happy and laughing and up for a good time which was fantastic and we made many friends from different areas of the UK, but some seemed to have faces like a smacked [--] and could moan for England for the duration of their stay - and those should definitely be avoided as I also found to my cost - the pale miserable people encased in the corner under the tree who could not go out in the sun and could not stand the heat (why go to the Balearics stupid???? - shakes head on disbelief).

Escaping and enjoying trips out is a good catalyst or hiring a car and going to see Es Vedra, Portinax, Cala Llonga, the delights of Ibiza town on the boat and a sunset at San Antonio if you dare to mingle with the pretty people.

A good hotel and great atmosphere driven by the excellent staff and holiday representatives but I would still go to the Coronas Playa Hotel in Lanzarote by a nose

My sister and i have just returned after our sixteenth visit to the Panorama and will be back next year. The sun bed situation is the same in most hotels and yes it is funny watching people who during the day cant walk but suddenly at 7.30 am can run their little legs to get a bed.We timed it so we just ambled out and got a bed where we wanted at the edge of the pool. Abig thank you must go to Adam for really making our holiday more enjoyable ,Shannon needs to rethink her vocation shame really as she does try hard. The entertainment this year was awful and i agree with other reviewers Shadowlands were dire and although the Thompson team were very good we were fed up with the same routines perhaps next year they will have some new ideas lets hope so.

Room Tip: pool view but not if you want an early night.

Enjoyed a weeks holiday at the Panorama.
The hotel is in a lovely situation near the harbour, and enjoys wonderful views.
As a party of four with a couple of fussy eaters we were very pleased with the quality of the food.
The staff were very helpful at all times and rooms if basic were clean and most importantly quiet.
The aspect that totally spoilt the whole week was the sun bed situation. You really could not get a sunbed anywhere after eight am. We were assured by the rep that this was being adressed, but I certainly saw no signs of change.
95% of the people staying at the time we were there were over 75, and im sure they enjoy getting up early . But as we work we look forward to not rushing around at 7.30 on our holiday. This urgently needs to be addressed , as many of the people we spoke to agreed that they would not return purely because of this situation. A great shame.

We have just spent two weeks at the Panorama. We have no complaints about the Hotel but as far as we were concerned the entertainment in the evening was awful compared to the entertainment at the Picafort Park Hotel last year. Out of the 14 nights we only enjoyed a couple of evenings. By the end of the fortnight we had seen the Thomson group 4 times. The night Adam did a take of The Weakest Link was awful the night of Mr and Mrs was just as pathetic. Come on Thomsons surely you can do better. According to the regular guests (some been there 20 years running ) the food is not as good as it was before AI was introduced this year we thought it was good. You could always find something to eat. Some of the frequent visiting guests seem to look down on the AI guests saying they drink far too much as it is free.!!! Do they not realize we pay for it as AI. I certainly did not see any AI guests drunk. We saw a couple of the regular guests a bit under the influence.

All the Hotel staff were very pleasant except the older two barmen who never seemed to smile.
All the young waiters were great. The dining room staff always had a smile for everyone.

Not sure about the two tier AI. We were on the Standard AI it was adequate for us. Never come across two tier before. No mention of it in brochure or on arrival at Hotel.

We did not join in any of the daytime activities (our choice). By not doing so we were completely ignored by Adam and Shannon.

We would go back to the Panorama if we thought the entertainment was better.

Room Tip: Pool view if available.

Stayed here for a week at the beginning of September, there was 4 in our party 2 couples and the first time that any of us had stayed all inclusive. The hotel is lovely, the rooms were very clean and spacious, and the choice for all the meals was excellent. No idea why people are complaining about the food we found it difficult to decide what not to have. The breakfast was substantial having both english and continental choices. We kept to salad at lunch times but there were several hot options. You could also use the snack bar if you became peckish later and we did take part in the tea and cake at 5pm. There was a good variety of dishes in the evening with a choice of even an English dish for those who wanted it. Had an evening meal at the Italian restaurant as part of the deal and this is well worth while.
Enjoyed aqua aerobics and the daily quiz but some of the evening entertainment was a bit of a let down with the highlight being when the bar staff did their routine.
Took the ferry to Ibiza town and also the afternoon trip on the train both worth it. If you want to go to the hippy market it needs to be visited early before the crowds get there. Finally the sun bed issue, on the couple of days we stayed at the hotel during the day we were able to get 4 beds on the upper terrace which was quieter and more spacious than the pool area, fortunately one of our party was an early riser and went out around 8.00am to secure these.

This hotel is well positioned and the staff as well as the Thomson reps were great. The age group is definitely on the more mature side and we were in the younger age group there but this did not really matter. All in all a great holiday.
