“Excellent Holiday!”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

Having read some damning reviews of this Thompson Gold hotel, we were quite nervous before our stay. We should not have been concerned. The hotel is lovely. The food is really good with good choices every meal. Our room was great, with an amazing view of the sea. The staff were so hard working and nothing was too much trouble. The Thompson rep, Harry, was especially good, and did everything to make our holiday what we expected. Although the average age of guests was above 50 - what do people expect at this time of year? It was just what we wanted and, above all, no little ones running about, screaming and shouting - bliss! All in all - a fabulous, relaxing holiday. Well done Thompson Gold!

Room Tip: Sea view with balcony - excellent and quiet.

We could not believe that as a couple in our early fifties we were one of the youngest there,,,, thats not strictly true but dont go here if you are expecting anything to lively , , or multicultural for that matter. Its geared up for two types,,,the Welsh and the Yorkshireman, you can get English beer and black pudding and fried bread with H.P sauce for your brekkie. Some of these people have been coming here for twenty years and it shows in the predominantly English way the place is run. But you'd think half of them were German if you could see how many sunbeds were reserved by 7am, but then most of them were probably retired lorry drivers so used to getting up early. That said, the place is clean and tidy and the food is fine, but the rooms are small and the bathrooms hopeless. When i sat on the loo i could rest my chin on the sink,,,,, and no bidet. So beware, this is really a summer retirement home for old truckers and miners.

We have visited this hotel on twenty plus occasions along with others and have found over the last two visits the hotel has gone down. You can not fault the staff they were brill.the food other than breakfast was not up to the standard of previous years. The entertainment other than Richard and Pepe / him and me was not up to standard. It looked like they was short staffed in the waiter department .one of the lifts was out of order the two weeks we stayed there. But on the plus side we had Hayley and Harry who worked hard to keep every happy. Well done. See you next year.
We stayed in the hotel from the 4th of June to the 18th June

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking the pool in the old block

This report follows two weeks at the hotel between 4th and 18th June 2014.
It is based on reflections of stays at the hotel once or twice yearly since 2001.
Last year saw, in my view, the lowest standards I have experienced at the Panorama over that 14 year period.
This year the overall standards have improved, but not to the exceedingly high overall standards of the last decade and into 2011. Each year from then, standards in many areas have noticeably lessened the most striking being the reduction of staff and the mediocre levels of evening food and entertainment. Food standards this year had slightly improved on 2013 with evidence of more local preparation but the overall availability of choices was no better. The pool surrounds and guttering so were dirty and weeds were growing from some. This used to be kept clean daily by early morning cleaning staff whose numbers appear to be reduced further than last year. The pool used to be hoovered daily. That does not happen now. Nevertheless the maintenance staff are run ragged from job to job so there is clear evidence of "bottom line" focus being achieved by the least possible number of staff. As a Platinum customer it is usual to have a concessionary bottle of wine in the room. that didn't happen this year.
You can't fault the staff. Some are very loyal having been there throughout the whole time we have visited. Without exception they all work very hard, whether bar staff, room staff, restaurant staff or maintenance staff, they all give 100%. If Thomson wants to keep this an Adult only Gold hotel, it needs to give some thought to stopping the drain of established clients some of who, like my wife and I have been regulars for years. Tellingly, our comments to friends when departing were ' do you think you might be back next year?' Rather than ' we look forward to seeing you same time next year'. We know some of our regular group will not be back in 2015, some didn't return this year. It was noticeable that we ate outside at local restaurants on a number of occasions this year so as to avoid the 'canteen' atmosphere and repeat menus of the hotel restaurant. In previous "halcyon" years it would have been a waste of money to have eaten elsewhere.
Thomson and Marina through their questionnaires must have realised that there has been a lessening of satisfaction by regular clients now over two into three seasons. I posed the question last year on trip advisor and will do so again. " Is the plan to do away with repeat clients and focus on all inclusive non repeat customers at their expense?"
I understand the Thomson Gold contract is into its last season next year. Will Marina up its game to become a Couples rated hotel or languish in the mediocrity it risks being classed within as a run of the mill All inclusive? Time will tell

Room Tip: Sea view single numbers 20 to 25 I.e 325, 425 , 525 but noisy with Charlie's bar. First floor an...

We stayed here for 11 nights. The hotel location is right near the beach. The beach is a safe clear water in a bay. Shops and bars on hand, we were half board so only ate out at lunch time all the restaurants offer a good range of excellent food at reasonable prices. Nice place to take a stroll after dinner no drunken rowdies here. The Hippy market is on a Wednesday and is a great place to visit, it's only a short walk away. The ferry calls here and for a small price will take you to Santa Eulalia (12 euro) return. The Hotel has a large swimming pool and 2 jacuzzis, they have plenty of sunbeds but as usual not enough umbrellas. There is a no reserve policy but no one seems to police it, some people are out there at 6.30am putting out their towels. (ridiculous and annoying). Food was excellent as was the evening entertainment. There is a day time team to keep you busy (if you want) led by Harry (he's brilliant) finishing with a quiz at 4pm.

Room Tip: We were in 2024 side view of the sea looking over the pools of a Hostel and Es cane apartments. Not...

This was our second holiday with Thomson's and we have to say it was faultless. The hotel itself was perfect; however, if you are young couple looking for parties etc then this is not for you. The average age of people in this hotel, in June, must have been 65+. We were assured that as the season goes on the younger generation do arrive, however this never put us off anything as we were there as a couple to enjoy our holiday.

1 recommendation is you must do the Sunset Cruise excursion

Harry & Hayley:

If people are meant to be a certain profession, then the profession of Entertainers was made for these two. Harry and Hayley were always smiling and bubbly, involved everyone as much as they could and generally gave the whole hotel and holiday a feel good factor. We couldn't fault anything these guys done.

Food:

The food was to a fairly high standard and exactly what you should expect from an all inclusive hotel. Nothing to flash but really tasty and plenty of choice so no excuses to go hungry.

Snack Bar:

We didn't go for formal lunch most times as we were happy with the snack bar options. This was again standard fare - burger, fries, pizza, pasta and a decent salad bar.

Hotel Rooms:

Stayed on the original block (I think it was - 401). Room was spacious enough, bathroom more than sufficient and was exceptionally cleaned every day. View over the pool had a nice view (worth paying for the upgrade). Beds were comfortable enough.

Hotel Communal Areas:

Well lit, really clean and tidy. Faultless

Pool:

Clean and a decent size. Again, it was ideal for a relaxing holiday as a couple.

Evening Entertainment:

The evening entertainment was fairly good. The in house duo was not excellent, but did the trick for some background music and allowed the in-house ball room dancers Trevor and Rita (I think they wanted a job :)) to show us all how to dance.

Room Tip: worth paying to upgrade to a pool or sea view, as some of the rooms face the bar walls next door...

We have stayed at this hotel once before. The hotel itself is in a lovely location and in a good state of repair. The food was of a high standard and the room was excellent. This time unfortunately a lift was out of order for the whole week we were there. Not a direct problem for us but indirectly a problem for all especially the less mobile. Also the standard of evening entertainment was not as good as we expected. The brochure stated FREE WIFI throughout from May 2014. It was not free. If you wanted internet access you had to get a code from reception, set up an account which cost 15euros. Hardly free!!!

Room Tip: Ask for sea view room.
