“Fantastic holiday”
Reviewed 11 May 2012

Just got back from a week at this hotel and was so impressed with everything, the hotel was spotless the food was fantastic with a different choice everyday. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them, the Thomson team made you feel very welcome and was happy to sort out anything that you needed. The entertainment was very good and we enjoyed the tribute to Elvis/Tina Turner/Freddie Mercury, just one man but he was brilliant! The resort itself was so beautiful and was also spotless, beaches had lifeguards so a very safe especially if you have children. We have never had such a stress free holiday from the moment we arrived at the airport in the uk we were well looked after by the Thomson reps and this continued throughout our stay. We are a couple in our forties and the hotel had a very wide age range staying there.

Late review but here goes anyway, We visited VP May 25th 11, for 11 nights, the hotel its self is quite clean and of average standard, the rooms were basic but had what you needed. The kids clubs looked great but as our daughter was only one obviously we didn't use it, they did have a creche which looked very safe and had english girls working in there, i didn't use but some friends we met put there little boy in there every day for 2 hours for a bit of R & R they said it was great.
They had a kids room with everything you need, steriliser, microwave, fridge for milk, kids toys and was kept immacualate.

The food was very average, we didn't go hungry but had there have been any restaurants around we would have eaten out a few nights.
There is absolutley nothing to do in Santo tomas and you are not within walking distance to go anywhere else or within taxi distance to be honest. If you are a couple with no kids you could go down to the beach take a left and go over the rocky hills to son bou.

The beach was a huge plus, for kids its so safe, Shallow for miles and clear as a bell it really was beautiful, however we spent most days by the pool as our little girl liked the slides in the kiddies pool.

Entertainment was ok the staff worked really really hard, they are there all day and all night and seem to only get one day off I don't know how they keep going, but i suppose its seasonal so they get there time off in the winter.

While we were there my partner got an ear infection, and my daughter got an infection too and was quite poorly, across there road there is a doctor who speaks great English and really was fab with us all.

Most the staff are great, however on my last night i had a run in with one of the men behind the bar, all inc stops at 11, it was dead on 11 and would not serve me, i was fuming, probably cos i was bored out of my head for days on end, he was extremely rude and should not be working around people if he just wants to be miserable!

The Weather is the only thing that is stopping me from booking the balearics again this year as, we had 6 days sun and the last 5 days it rained, we have never been so bored in all our lives, with nothing to do in the area and the basic hotel rooms we could not wait for that coach to pick us up and get us back to the airport, will never return to Santo Tomas its complete sleepy ville!

Room Tip: Pool view or mountain view whichever you prefer, just would ask to be above the 4th floor.

Reception was quick and efficient and the staff very helpful.

Rooms are small and a bit dated, but frankly other than to shower, change and sleep what do you need a room for?

My daughter bought an inflatable from the hotel shop & also had it inflated for €5.

The kids club was good, but a bit of a nuisance having to queue and book at 5pm for the next day. The extra cost activities were also fun for my daughter. She enjoyed the play area and the pool.

The entertainment team are possibly the most hard working I have ever come across and they hit the balance between being too OTT and invisible just right. Most daytime activities are around the pool & it's easy to sit on the garden area if you want to get away.

Food was a bit repetitive, but to be expected on an AI. We ate out a few times. There's a small crazy golf course in Santo Tomas. We went up to Migjorn Gran for the market, there was some street entertainment and we ate in a nice clean restaurant peopled with locals. It was a relief to have some Tapas and good local food.

There are activities for the kids, water polo for the dads and quizes. Would like to see an aerobics / pilates or water aerobics for the moms, but all in all a holiday that my 7 year old enjoyed and thats my main priority.

We stayed here with our 2 children, Thomson were great to travel with..Lovely hotel, VERY clean and the food was fine, the children's entertainment was fab, hotel is very child friendly. didn't have too much trouble getting sunbeds as we travelled in May outside of the school holidays.
The only thing stopping us from returning here is the quiet resort, apart from a couple of bars, crazy golf and a park there was nothing to do!! Usually in the evening we like to have a look around in the shops and visit different bars & restaraunts even if we are all inclusive! But that wasn't possible here!! Emailed in advance to tell the hotel we were there for a special occasion and they upgraded us to a fantastic big room with excellent views!! Would return again if we were looking for a 'chill out' holiday.

Room Tip: Email in advance if it's a special occasion - we had a fantastic upgrade!

We visited in July 2011, my husband and I and our 2 small children 2 and 1.
The hotel was clean, the staff were helpful enough. The Thomson staff were fine and the children enjoyed the crèche on a couple of occasions (which we had to pay for). Although my 2 year old caught nits for the first time whilst there!
There was a few parks which are always good when you have children, although there were plenty of children not being watched by their parents which made it difficult for the little ones to play properly. the whole place is centred round families, so if you don't have children I'd stay well away!
Food was not good, my husband and children lived on chips and salad for the whole week.
The sunbed situation was terrible, if you weren't up and out at 6 in the morning you had no chance of getting one. We spent most of our days at the beach which is lovely and shallow for the children to walk in. the walk alongside the beach is nice. It's a very quiet place to stay, so if you want lively this is not or you. Overall, not the worst holiday, but won't be returning!

good points close to beach park on site for children and a park 50m attached to restaurant. nice walk at side of beach with parks along the way. staff and animation team very good.
bad points food! terrible if you used to shopping in iceland then you won,t have a problem. however the staff did not remove the container to refil and would just slop it in splashing onto to the dishes next to them. they had a childrens counter self serve but it was nuggets ect. the veg were frozen and not warmed properly practically still frozen. I don,t if it was because it was end of season, but i was'nt impressed.

Reviewed 20 December 2011

My wife, myself and our 1 year old stayed in the Stil Victoria Playa in late October 2011. We booked the holiday wanting a late, cheap, all-inclusive deal to get away and hopefully a little bit of sun. We are the type of people that like to explore the local area as well as spending days relaxing on the beach or by the pool.

Santo Tomas was a very quiet resort, the other hotels and restaurants were closing for the season, but even in peak time there is very, very little to do there. There are a handful of other hotels, a couple of bars and a couple of small shops. We hired a car for 3 days to explore the island and just used the hotel as a base for those days. (There is a car hire in the resort and driving on the island is very easy). It was possible to walk around the resort in about 45minutes. There was a pleasant coastal path running from one end of the resort to the other.

So the hotel....This is not a 4 star place as Thomson advertise, it is a 3 star hotel that the hotel itself advertises itself as. Yes it was a bit like butlins, yes there were people whose idea of dressing for dinner is to put on a clean football shirt, but you get what you pay for!

Our room was a little cramped with a double bed and a cot, but clean and basic. There was a TV with English channels.

The food was ok, there were chips served with every meal, but plenty of other options as well, there were some good choices of seafood plus a good variety of help-yourself drinks under the all-inclusive scheme. The coffee machines were only on at breakfast times and switched off at dinner times. The waiting staff were really friendly.

There were two large bars, one where the evening entertainment was hosted and a quieter one. We tended to go to the quieter bar in the evenings with our son in a buggy and he drifted off to sleep, whilst we had a night-cap.
There was also a bar by the pool open during the day, which also served snacks.

Outside there was a main pool, a paddling pool and a children's pool with slides. It was just a bit too cold to use the pool when we went in October. As per previous comments, I would imagine it was be unpleasantly crowded around the pool in peak times. There was also a grassed area and a playground area for the children.

During the day Thomson ran a daily quiz and a few games a round the pool, but as it was the penultimate week of the season, it was clear that they were running down their programme (which was fine with us!)

Overall we had a good holiday however we were glad that we were able to escape the confines of the hotel and the resort, otherwise we would have been very bored.
