Stayed here from the 12th-17th October for my birthday with my boyfriend and 3 other friends, as last year hotel, food, pool, staff and everything was great value and exelent quality!! Very clean hotel! AMAZING.. About 5 minute walk down to malgrat and Santa Susanna strip where there are 4 amazing clubs as they call discotech .. Tropicana is amazing it is on the left corner at the bottom and also the frog further down. Really enjoyed my stay here was gutted to go home. We also went into Barcelona for the day to the nou camp and the cathedral. The train from the station to Barcelona was 9 euros return, took about an hour. To get to different land marks you needed to get the underground metro, tickets were 2 euro singles but worth it!! Seen everything for less that 15euro!!

We stopped at the Luna Park Malgrat de Mar for 7 nights arriving on Saturday 5th October 2013. We flew with Ryanair from Bristol to Girona (flight was just short of 2 hours) and the coach transfer from Girona was just over an hour.

LOCATION

The hotel itself is about 5 minutes walk from the beach and the main tourist trail in Malgrat. As you walk down the hill from the hotel, you turn left into Malgrat or right and you are walking into Santa Susanna.

It takes about 20 minutes to walk into old town Malgrat and about 40 minutes to walk into old town Santa Susanna.

Small tip for shopping – the Malgrat side has almost identical things in the shops to the Santa Susanna side but the prices were usually lower on the Malgrat side! How this works, I don’t know but we window shopped the Susanna side and bought on the Malgrat side.

HOTEL & FACILITIES

People on Trip Advisor talk about the Luna Park and the Luna Club as separate entities – they are basically two hotels joined by a communal Reception and covered walkways and it takes seconds to go from one to the other.

We were in the 3 star Luna Park side and our friends were in the 4 star Luna Club side.
The 2 hotels share the same facilities (without having to leave the complex); you pay extra in the Luna Club for a larger room with flat screen TV (instead of the usual holiday portable), a bath with over-bath shower (most of the rooms in the Park just have a shower) and more luxurious toiletries. I really don’t think it warranted the extra 100 euros for the week but I suppose if this is your main holiday of the year, you may want to splash out.

The Luna complex has several large outdoor pools, a bar in both Luna Park and Luna Club, an indoor pool and jacuzzi on the ground floor in the Luna Park and some outdoor activities such as a tennis court, boules, etc. Everywhere is immaculate, constantly being cleaned and feels very light and airy.

There are internet PCs in the Luna Park lounge and free wi-fi in various parts of the hotel (we found the best reception in the Luna Park bar).

We found the garden bar in the Luna Club perfect for us and our holiday; it was quieter (families tend to use the main bar and pool in the Luna Park) and it seemed to have a much more relaxed feel about it with classical music and a much slower pace. There are Tai Chi classes here as well as a massage table.

RESTAURANT / FOOD / DRINKS

The main restaurant is on the lower ground floor of the Luna Park. Breakfast is 8am to 10am, lunch 12:45pm to 2:30pm and dinner 7:30pm to 9:30pm. Be warned – they start actually closing the restaurant down 10 minutes after the official closing time ready to set up for the next session so stick to the times!

There is also a snack bar in the Luna Club garden that serves breakfast type snacks 11am to 12:30pm and then light lunch snacks 12:30pm to 6pm.

Breakfast in the restaurant is just turn up and take a seat but lunch and dinner are “wait by the door until you are seated”. This was a real pain as people were queuing up on the stars looking in at empty tables.

Rude people of various nationalities will try and push past you – I found an outstretched arm and a firm “no” stopped these ignorant people from barging in.

Honestly I think they need a bigger dining room but, to be fair, we always got a table.

The restaurant meals are the usual buffet style with salads meats, fish, potatoes, pasta, etc and we always found something we liked. There is a small children’s buffet table that has chips, chicken dippers, etc but our top tip is to go straight over to the top corner and see what the chef’s speciality of the day is. In the morning there are pancakes cooked in front of you and during the evening we had griddle chicken, roasted peppers, mini steaks. etc.

The all inclusive drinks package here was one of the best we have seen. Usually the AI deals is just basics but there is a whole list to choose from including some lovely cocktails. My only whinge is that you cannot get coffee until 11am. After finishing breakfast at 9am, we like to linger on the patio with another coffee but this was not an option.

For coffee addicts like myself (!), there is a machine for All-inclusive guests in both the Luna Park and Luna Club bars that produces lovely milky coffees, americanos, etc.

I would also like to give the hotel full marks for our arrival. We got to the hotel about 2am and in our room were soft drinks, a salad platter, meats, cheeses & breads – we thought this was a lovely touch and meant a lot to 2 weary travellers!

STAFF

I have read some reviews on here saying staff were rude – can we please remember that most staff here are Spanish speaking but can generally hold a conversation in about 4 languages?

Some times they may seem rude but we found that most of the time they were just translating what you were saying in their heads and trying to answer you.

Yes, we did find that often Reception staff forget you are the customer and ignore you while they finish tasks but I never had any problems with any other staff – we tipped the chamber-maid and the bar staff on leaving but saved the biggest tip for the lady running the garden bar in the Luna Club who was excellent and so helpful!

OVERALL

We paid about £300 each for an all-inclusive week and we felt that we got excellent value for money.

The hotel is predominantly full of Spanish or French guests and you have to accept everyone’s different cultures but it can get tiring when one group are screaming and partying up and down the corridors until 2am and the others start their day by blaring TVs and radios at 6am (!). I do think hotel staff need to be more vigilant with regard to noise levels and monitoring this as some days we were exhausted and banging on room doors for the noise to stop!

However, overall, I would recommend this Hotel.

Room Tip: Pool rooms are nice but we had lovely views from our room at the back of the hotel overlooking the...

Stayed at the end of September but the hotel was still very busy. The hotel is modern, clean with excellent staff who were extremely helpful especially the restaurant staff who were particularly attentive as we had people in our party who were gluten free. The standard of food was good and lots of choice, as we were all inclusive the spirits and wine were also of a high standard. The only downside was the cliental at this time of year were Foreign pensioners who weren't very impressed to find a younger party staying there.

There is no getting away from the fact that it is a 3* hotel, if you want 5* quality/food - go 5*! All the staff, whether cleaners, maids or in the restaurant were exceptionally helpful and polite.

My one biggest gripe was queuing to get into the restaurant. I've never seen it before when you have to queue from the main lobby area down 2 flights of stairs to get into the restaurant. The waitresses worked very hard to clear the tables, whilst one directed you to your table, but they were fighting a losing battle due to the ever increasing queues. I hate to think what the queues were like in July and August.

I have to say one week of the food was enough. Sure there was always something to eat and generally a good selection, including salad and fruit, but I think two weeks of it would have driven you to eat out.

The hotel was out on a limb, but this wasn't such a bad thing. At least you were away from the main strip which, in any case, was easily accessible and probably very busy and noisy in high season.

Two top tips you can't afford to miss:

Train to Barcelona: There is a regular and reliable service from Santa Susanna to Barcelona, costing 9.1 euros each return (the station is about 20 mins walk from the hotel). The ticket machine on the platform outwitted everyone but the Spanish so everyone ended up in the ticket across the road (big queues possible). You can only buy tickets for travel on the actual day and remember to validate your ticket BEFORE you travel!! Also, make note of the last train back that actually goes to Santa Susanna, some don't go all the way back late at night. Unfortunately for us we made a big faux pas - we could only get a train back to Mataro - we then had to get a taxi back to SS at a cost of 45 euros!!

Bike Hire: If you are AI you can use the hotel's bikes free of charge - don't even go there!! They are ancient death traps. We did a free bike ride, as part of the hotel's entertaiment, with Howard the animation guy on Friday night and went off the beaten track into the hills, which was really worthwhile and interesting, but the bikes were a joke.

As we weren't AI we'd previously hired bikes from a very nice lady in SS for 3 hours and cycled to Callela (about an hour away). We paid 10 euros for 3 hours and it would have been 15 euros all day. The hotel was charging 25 euros for the whole day to non AI guests - and having witnessed the bikes reckoned we'd had a lucky escape!

Take advantage of the two little tourist trains. There's one that goes from the bottom of the road to the old town of Malgrat de Mar (pay on the train) and there's one that goes into the mountains (get tickets from the ticket booth a little further towards SS).

Oh, and if you're not AI go to King's bar in SS - very nice and friendly.

All in all a good holiday and hotel and, like I said, it does what it says on the tin - nothing more, nothing more!

Room Tip: A pool view would be your best option.

I would like to recommend this hotel to those who looks for a good calm hotel with great cook. It takes 7 minutes to get to the beach, but I'd say it's an advantage as all other that are closer - are too busy. Malgrat and Santa Susanna are at your disposal. It was awesome. People are mostly Italians ,Russians,Germans. My husband and I have been here this September. Staff is good as well

This hotel has lots to offer and is only spoilt by its restaurant. Its in a lovely spot not too far from anything but far enough away from the bustle of the main drag to feel a little more private. Many of the hotels on the main thoroughfare had pools leading onto the streets which seemed a little off putting, not sure I want to swim or sunbathe with an audience of passing shoppers. Everything was clean and the rooms were lovely (we were in the 4* part so couldn't comment on the other rooms, but heard no complaints).
Staff were great, friendly and helpful, lots of sunbeds, Garden was nice to sit in and the bars were both good,
Only complaint was the quality of the food, which surprised us as many reviews before we went seemed to indicate it was ok. Only if you like cold badly cooked offerings I'm afraid. We aren't fussy eaters but although the cooking improved towards the end of our stay, the quality rarely did. The children's food seemed to have little on offer although their constant supply of chips were the highlight as they were mostly hot!!
We were 4 adults staying AI, we really liked the hotel and would recommend it, however, we all felt that there could be measured improvements in the restaurant........All in all a lovely hotel, that sadly we probably would not visit again just because of the restaurant, it really lets it down sorry.

Room Tip: we were on the 4th floor overlooking the garden, well away from the noise from the bar (although it...

My Husband and I stayed at the hotel Luna Park from 12th August for our Honeymoon and found the place to be lovely.
We had a pool view room, which was basic, but immaculate. The beds were made up each day and clean fresh towels given daily too.
The Hotel is split up into 2 buildings either side of the large swimming pool, one side being the 3* Luna park, and the other the 4* Luna Club. If like us you are just using the room for sleeping at night, then save your money and stay in the 3*, as all the other facilities are shared, so your basically getting a 4* holiday just without the luxuary of a flat screen tv.
We stayed here all inclusive
The food is amazing, and all the staff in the restaurant work really hard. Breakfast was the best meal for me, with bacon and eggs on offer everyday, along with the usual breads cheeses etc. Also cava was served at breakfast too which was really nice.
The pool is large and they are plenty sunbeds. Tip.. Grab a sunbed before breakfast and reserve with your towel, there are rules saying not to do this but we found everyone did.
The drinks at the main bar were great, and the ice cream was amazing. The only down side is that all inclusive didnt start untill 11am, therefore we had to pay for drinks before this time, and they are expensive, but there is a super market just down the road that sells large bottles of water for just 40p!!
The snack bar at the back of luna club serves meats and cheeses with fresh bread, and fresh fruit. Im such a fussy eater but I actually put on weight staying here as the food was so good.
The beach is a 5min walk from the hotel, and there are also alot of bars and places to eat in malgrat and santa susana, both just a 5 min stroll away, and there is also the local night club disco tropicano too, which was great.
I would definately return to this hotel, but next time I will take our children with us.
NOTE** There are not many English tourists here, mainly Russian, German, and Dutch. We found the German and Russians very rude and often spitting around the pool, or blowing their nose freely without tissue which made me physically sick, but thats not the fault of the hotel.
All in all, we had a fantastic time
