“Great for a short break away.”
Reviewed 11 September 2012

Just got back from a 5 day break HB at this hotel.
This is our 4th visit here and I really enjoy the early September break.
Food was very good this year and the pancakes for breakfast (freshly made on the hotplate) were very nice.
I like the 10% discount scheme they now run on drinks and food and this did not exist on my last visit 2 years ago.
I like the fact they let you swop dinner for lunch, that way you can have breakfast, sunbathe for a couple hours then go in for lunch, then in the evening we can go out and have a nice steak or pizza at one of the fab resturants in the town area.

Lets be honest. This is not the Hilton and I don't expect it, its a cheap and cheerful 3* hotel on the Costa Brava only 2 hours from Manchester.
We paid £500.00 for 5 days. That is 5 nights HB. The flights from Manchester-Barcelona and back and the transfer from airport to hotel and back. I spent £120.00 while I was there.

So, if you want a cheap break in the sun with a short flight then this is it.

Beer is cheap in the resort, average in around £180.00 a large beer. Local bars sell bottles of beer for £1.20 which is very good.

When you can have a 2 steak meals (1 peppercorn saurce, 1 mushroom saurce) with chips and salad, a glass of wine and a large beer for £22.50 this is the resort to do it in and it was very good steak too.

Room Tip: All the rooms I have stayed in have been about the same so not really any tips to give regards rooms...

after looking at the hotels web page to actually being there was miles apart in reality, the room we stayed in was at the rear and on the sixth floor (room 612) well you can see every balcony to the left and with them having glass frontage you had no pricey at all ! not good and the sun came around about 16:00. the room was very dated with holes at the bottom of the bathroom door and draws fronts that are split, it had cracked tiles on the bathroom floor, the TV has a free remote but it was that high up about 4 inches from the ceiling that it gave you neck ache trying to watch it the BBC world service the only English channel on it. ho and WiFi is 15 euros for the week and you can only have one user on the password also it can only be used with in range near reception / pool area, the staff try to be friendly but i don't think they know how to be. we tried to change rooms but we where told it was full we did request a low floor with a sea / pool view prior to booking so don't hope for your request to be granted, so we just slept there although we where half board, food is average as you get what you pay for ! the air con in the room was at the hotels command and although it was 24deg when we asked for it to be put on they told us it was too cold and we could not have it on. i know people moan but the week we had was poor and maybe if we had the sea view with low floor it mite have earned it a better review !

Just got back from Spain short break (5days) and decided to write review as a thank you to the hotel for such a great service. I have chosen Maripins because of all the reviews received earlier. Overall great hotel (obviously for the price paid and amount of stars). The main key points: food, close location to the see and other amenities (but at the same time not too loud) and clean, tidy rooms. We went with 2 year old son. Downside was that it didn't have proper kids pool area (for toddlers), but that is minor thing not even worth probably mentioning.

The food was really good. I get really annoyed with people complaining constantly about food choice (specially Brits, who don't even have their own proper cuisine, and if there is no burgers and English breakfast, they seem to think the food is terrible). Anyway, the choice was brilliant on most of the meals, including, mentioned earlier English breakfast, (delicious) burgers and other variety of meals. It was also rich in all sort of fruits and salads, so was fine for everyone.

The rooms are very basic, but spacey and clean, hard mattresses as mentioned by others. Since it's 100ml policy on flights I am always interested, if there are any cosmetics included, therefore, feel that may be useful to add some info as well. There is soap and shower gel, also decent hair dryers.

Staff overall nice, helpful and friendly.

Can't comment on many other things as didn't socialize much.

Hope that helps, and thank you Maripins for such a pleasant stay (will have to join gym now to lose all the gained weight).

Room Tip: we stayed in room 336, further from the pool in seperate building, was very quiete

yes i would recommend this hotel as its says a 3 star so its great value for what we payed for a weeks all inclusive in Aug. we have returned and looking for a booking next yr. have stayed at afew hotles now in both st susanna and much prefer this resort. the hotel was good for the location and food always something nice on the menu, maybe not to everyones taste but can it ever be. the pool is a nice size on the roof overlooking the beach. we had the champions bar round the corner great prices not to be beaten the guys behind the bar are so welcoming. 2.50 for a local mix or a large cider that was me settled in for footie sat and sunday then watched the results, not bad day. well there is a lot to see and do and they helped us out with trains and trips.

Stayed here this year and after reading all the positive reviews, I was higly disappointed.
The balcony must have been the smallest they could get away with, 1 table and 2 chairs... but no room to pull the chairs out. We had to move the table insode to sit out on it.
The breakfasts seemed minimal, the rooms were not that clean, with a big hole in the boxing under the sink.
One thing I wasn;t keen on was the security as they ask you to leave the room key at reception if you go out (which I never did) but never seem to ask for prrof of identity upon you're return., Just ask for the room number.
In response to jamesc4228, I wasn;t expecting 5* as I had come from another 3* in a different resort and found the difference staggering, especially considering 1 night less here csot £50 more in total.

Please note before reading this review that for less than £400 pp for a week full board in spain INCLUDING FLIGHTS AND TAXES in the middle of the summer holidays, This IS a cheap and cheerfull holiday dispite what previous reviewers claim.Having said that the maripins is a 3 star hotel and by no means the ritz.

We stayed in the 'newer' block seperate to the main building at the back of the hotel. The room was very clean and air-conditioned but very basic, the beds were basicly camp beds but were comfortable enough and despite the pillows being waffer thin the staff would happily supply as many of them as you require. The room we stayed in had a view of the back of the hotel and the car park but the balcony was a nice little sun trap in the evenings.the walls are also very thin so i would advise light sleepers to take ear plugs. so over all the room was basic but everything that you need.
The food on the first night we stayed was pretty much just chicken nuggets and chips, but that must have been a bad day as for the rest of the week the food was varied with different theme nights and we always found plenty of things we liked.
The bar and pool area was always kept clean and tidy with plenty of seats, but the pool its self was dirty when we stayed with lots of bits floating about in it. So we spent most of the time at the beach across the road or on excursions.
We visited marineland during our stay which is well worth the money especially if travelling with children, As they have dolphin, sea lion and parrot shows as well as a water park. There is a free bus from directly outside the hotel but for some reason it didn't stop so we opted for a taxi as the park is only 5-10 minutes down the road.
Over all malgrat and the maripins are an ideal place for a cheap getaway during the school holidays if you are willing to see it for what it is i.e a 3 star hotel not a 5 star as some people seem to have expected.
