“Nice Hotel - Great Value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2010

Nice hotel with large open spaces and public areas. Situated one street back from the main drag, so more opportunity to chill out if that is what you like. The rooms are fine and well appointed and have perhaps the most comfortable beds we have ever had on holiday, Sleep quality was top drawer and this was also aided by a very efficient and remarkably quiet air conditioning system.

The hotel is used by most nationalities throughout Europe, especially eastern europe and a lot of Germans and French as well. Many guests are bused in due to Malgrat's position geographically. I think we were the only British people in the hotel and don't really know the reason for this. However, we were happy with the situation, as you can always go out to the empty bars and restaurants and talk to the bar staff. The lack of Brits is a small price to pay for everything being well ordered and a constant happy feel maintained. We never saw one drunk or heard any raised voices throughout our 5 day stay.

There were some decent shows put on at night with magicians and acrobats and that kind of thing. These lasted for an hour and then it was on with the spanish guests demonstrating to the rest of Europe that their national winter dance classes are really paying off now.

The food is very good at breakfast time, but we have had better for lunch and evening dinner. Can't complain though, as we feel we got a right bargain and the hotel would rightly be drumming up brownie points for the eastern european tastes.

There are loads of swimming pools and these must be heated, as I started breathing within 20seconds after the initial shock of going in. There is also a decent sized indoor pool for those less hearty souls at this time of year. The Bella Playa is at the top end of 3star accommodation and easily surpasses some masquerading as 4star. Bar prices were very good and some of the pubs were also offering a pint of San Miguel at 1.25 euro.

We would recommend the hotel, but in this area, we much prefer Calella as a resort.

Stayed at the Bella Playa for a week, half board basis with my 14 yr old son. Food was excellent, buffet style meals with ample choices of hot and cold dishes, evening meals have a theme every night with chinese, italian, mexican etc as well as the usual choice of hot and cold dishes. Staff very helpful, swimming pools clean and not too busy, plenty of sun loungers. Maid service daily with towels changed as requested, very clean hotel. Entertainment for kids and adults every night to suit varying tastes (magic, dancing, acrobatics, singing, bingo etc).
Malgrat itself is a lovely resort with a popular fine shingle beach, plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. Very handy for the R1, the main train line running every half hour to Barcelona.

I stayed at this hotel with my aunt and my cousin last year, overall it was a nice vacation. I really enjoyed the swimming pools that this hotel had to offer, as well as its location. The hotel is quite close to a fantastic beach and the boardwalk with many shops and restaurants.

The food at this hotel was not very good. The food served at the buffet for lunch/dinner was bland and flavorless (except for the cakes and muffins, those were delicious!) The breakfast buffet was not too bad. I would recommend eating at some of the restaurants located on the boardwalk.

Another minus of this hotel was the room. It was small and dark. The TV is tiny and barely worked. But the room is not that important seeing as how when you're in Spain you should be exploring and not staying in your room.

So all in all, a nice hotel minus the food.

P.S. beware that some of the staff only speak Spanish. But nonetheless, all of the staff were quite kind.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at this hotel in august 2008 for one week(6 nights). The hotel is very big, it has almost 600 rooms. It is a very nice hotel, with very nice staff. The room are large and very clean. The food was all right, various and a lot! The pool is quiet small for how many rooms it has but this was not a hold back for us because the beach was only 7 minutes away. To get to the beach you have to walk trough a subway, because above is the railroad. Anyway I would go back anytime to this hotel and I kindly recommend it.

Just back from a week's stay here with my boyfriend. We loved lazing by the heated pools and were also very impressed by the immaculately clean rooms with free air con. The buffet type meals were also yummy - if I could have smuggled some of the cakes home I would have!

On the downside though, the construction noise coming from across the road, where a new hotel is being built, is somewhat migrain-inducing in the afternoon: best bring your i-Pod! Also, the endless line of tacky souvenir shops which comprise Malgrat's "Main street" all sell the same thing to the tune (and I use the term loosely) of the same panpipe music. How many electric blue dolphin ornaments can one person actually fit on the mantelpiece? I imagine a lot of relatives have to adopt fake smiles when they receive gifts from this place.

Santa Susannah, a 15 minute stroll away, is much nicer: you can peruse the (dolphin-free) market stalls which are set up at night and the Hotel Alhambra offers amazing open air entertainment - all the bands we watched there were fantastic and we danced the night away! Also caught a cheap train to Barcelona, which was well worth doing: loved the culture, architecture and (to my boyf's disdain) the cool shops...all of which were distinctly lacking in Malgrat!

Basically, if you just want to chill by the pool in the sun, definitely consider this hotel; however, if you get bored easily and are offended by concrete skylines, maybe best to give it a body swerve.

I spent 1 week in Aqua Hotel Bella Playa and I have to say that most of the previous review are quite accurate.
The hotel has very good location - close to the beach and close to the station - about 7-10 min walk. Morevoer, the hotel is not exactly in the busiest hotel area of Malgrat de Mar, which is in the south of the town on Passeig Maritim, where in the evenings were quite noisy, so we did not have any problems with sleeping. It is right that the sound-proofing is not the best (we sometimes heard the man next door snooring), but it was not so noisy, really, I am very pretencious about these things and I can tell that I slept like a baby during our stay.
The rooms were basic and somekind a bit dated, but they very clean, as well as the bathrooms. The only thing that I did not liked was that the double bed was actually two separated beds put together. We were on the 6-th floor and we had very nice view towards the old town of Malgrat and partial sea view.
Our booking was on half board and I can say that the food was OK, not anything extraordinary but diverse and fresh. I can only complain that the tomatoes and some of the fruits were always unripe, but almost in every restaurant that we went to the tomatoes were unripe.
Regarding the hotel staff, they were very polite and helpful, the receptionists spoke good English.
The hotel's policy about check out time is not so good - the check out time is 10 am but they offer lugguge room and also you could take a shower and change your clothes after your last going to the beach.
The beach of Malgrat is wide and clean with coarse sand. The sea is deep - as soon as you get in, the level is to your shoulders. We did not enjoy the beach only during the weekend as it was rather overcrowded - mainly by natives.
Overall, we are satisflied by our stay in Aqua hotel Bella Playa, but I do not think that we will ever come back in Malgrat as it is like any other seaside resort - nothing so special. The best thing is that it is quite close to Barcelona - 1:15 h to Plaza Catalunya by train.
