We stayed at the Sorra D'Or form the 24th of September for a week.

Overall the hotel was clean, if a little dated. The staff were always helpful and on hand when you need them.

Rooms.

The rooms were basic, but kept clean by the maid each day, our particular room had a bit of a drippy tap, and a toilet that didn't see, to be bolted down.... It did have an amazing shower! Annoying shower curtain, but great shower.
There were two single beds which we pushed together to make a double, one of which was quite comfortable, but one was rather lumpy and seemed to have a plastic bed cover unr the sheet.....
We had a balcony, which I think all rooms have due to the shape of the hotel.

The one issue we did have was the noise. We had a road side room, which was ok until the early hours of the morning when it turned into the M62.... Bin wagons were very loud, as we're the street cleaners, then there were the idiots on mope heads..... People seemed to be using it as a drag strip and were driving very fast in loud cars.

I have to say that this only applies to our room- I'm sure requesting pool side views, or sea views would be much better.... However no matter where you are in the hotel the walls must be made of paper, you can hear the newsreaders on the TV in the next room. Amongst other...em..... Noises shall we say, I think this is a shame as the hotel has great potential. And for a cheap break away it was fine.

We did have one issue with the maid removing some acrylic cocktail glasses we had taken as a joke, who thought they were disposable- but the hotel were quick to apologise and compensate for them.

All inclusive.

We always found something to eat at breakfast, which always included meats and cheses, bread, cereal, eggs, bacon, beans sausage, yoghurt, fruit,

Same story at lunch and dinner, there was always something to eat, I found that you needed to be there for the opening time of the meal to avoid Queing for tables, but there was always a relatively swift turn over even if you needed to wait. Tables were always cleared very quickly.

Food at lunch and dinner always included a fish (which I always found to be lovely) other meats, pastas etc, this did seem to be a bit of a repetitive loop, but was always pleasant.
Some of the food struggled to stay hot once actually on you plate. But generally ok.

Drinks were all included- soft drinks, some, beer and cocktails (from a limited range). These were fine but served to you in either a tall plastic cup, which was ok, or a disposable cup, like you would get from a vending machine. I think this is a bit of a shame as it sort of felt very cheap.
They were unlimited, from 10am to I think 11pm, and the waiters were always smiley and helpful. With the exception of me young lady.... Who seemed a little more concerned with talking to a boyfriend than serving us the drinks we wanted...! She even had us pouring our own lime at one point....

Location.

Transfer time wasnt bad at all from gerona airport (forgive me I don't know exactly how long), as we were the second stop.
You do get dropped off at the end of the shopping street and need to take your bags from the coach down to the hotel as coaches can't reach directly outside the hotel- this is worth bearing in mind if your not travelling light! It's one straight flat road to get there though and a 3 minute walk.

Right opposite the hotel was the Beach which was brilliant, great for sun lovely sea and very clean. Be aware that the sea gets deep quite quickly- tread carefully to avoid looking silly! Sun beds €5 a day.

The train line also runs right in front of the hotel, is is worth bearing in mind if you get a sea view, although when lounging in the beach we really weren't bothered by it.

The train is a great way to explore, €2 gets you to the local towns, and just €9.50 gets you to barcelona and back!
If you plan on doing a few trips the combination ticket is well worth getting- about €9 gets you 10 journeys, which can be used for multiple people- you just put it in the machine and pass back (this is actually ok as we checked!!) this same ticket although it won't get you to barcelona, it will get you round n e underground- same principle applies- you can pass back so all your family can ride on one ticket. If you are going to do more the 5 journeys, or have 5 people traveling the cheapest was to travel is the combination ticket.

If visiting Barcelona for th first time I would recommend the train ans buss offer- €26 gets you return train travel to barcelona, and the hop on hop off 'bus touristique' this is a great way of seeing the whole city and its wonderful sights. If you buy the bus tickets when you get there you will end up paying about €30 anyway.... So it's like getting it at a bett price and your train to barcelona thrown in!

Pool.

The pool was lovely, clean and well maintained, at the time of year we went however only the left hand side deck received any sun- meaning the pool was actually colder an the sea!
I should imagine the during peak summer months the whole area is bathed in sunshine, but just be aware the pool is in the hotels central courtyard and is worth checking if you can expect some sun....

Overall we had a lovely holiday, but wouldn't be rushing back to this particular hotel. For a cheap break away I think the place offers great value for money (although you have to pay for wifi €25 for the week, which only works in the ding rooms, pool area and bar, not in your bedroom....)
Food is fine if your not overly fussy and as long as you go at a time when the pool gets sun I think you'll be fine!

Room Tip: Pool side would probably be the quietest.....

My family and I are just back from a weeks stay at this hotel. Staff were very friendly and room was kept clean. However the food was very poor, we have young children who were hard to cater for, we found out very early on that the bar serve sausage and chips throughout the day so we would take the children there first before we headed for ours. If you don't mind living on salad and pasta all week this is fine however we found the food very repetitive, we were all inclusive so expected a bit more. The sun doesn't shine on the pool for that long only in the afternoon for a few hours so pick your spot wisely, we found if we stuck to the children's pool we were fine. Outside the hotel is the train station which was surprisingly quite, we went to Barcelona for a day trip, train fair was very cheap about €9 pp return children went free. After that is the beach which is lovely, easy to access and close to the hotel. When we were dropped off by coach, this wasn't beside the hotel we had to walk down a street which wasn't explained very well by the bus driver, not helpful when you have 2 small children, luggage and a pram. We wouldn't go back to this hotel and had spoke to other couples who felt the same.

Room Tip: Choose a 4* hotel

Recently came back from a 10 day break in Spain with my wife and we were all inclusive at this hotel.....as with many things there are pro's and con's......we read all the reviews and as with everything they are all pretty much mixed so there's only one way to find out....so we went.....1st of all can i just say...the location is exactly what you want.....right next to the beach....not even a 2 minute walk in the tunnel under the train tracks.....granted there is a train station next to the hotel but to be fair it doesn't bother you after all we had a sea view and the trains ran every half hour till about midnight and start back up around half 6 in the morning but it never interupted our holiday one bit.....right...you don't get dropped off at the Hotel...but its only a few minutes down a street so not a problem....got to the reception and got charged 7 euro's but couldn't tell us what for...and not very helpful....however we carried on....found our room with a lovely sea view....the room is very basic....but was clean and tidy so didn't bother us...maid service was everyday so don't expect a lie in if you've had too much to drink the night before...you'll never lose the room key as it seems to have a brick attached to it (haha) when you go for a drink and food its the usual stuff as in buffet style as you would expect in the restaurant....there is plenty to go around and a good selection however after a couple of days it seems all the same so its what you make of it really.....but none the less the staff are very friendly so no problems there....I wasn't aware that the hotel is also open to the locals who can purchase food and drink....I've never had that on an all inclusive holiday before??? There is a small pool that hardly gets any sun but doesn't matter as you have the beach so it really didn't bother us at all......the entertainment is very limited lets say...as in hardly any....you have a disco in the evenings and maybe a kareoke and a reptile show thrown in for good measure but listening to the same playlist evey night gets very irritating.....I really can't keep listening to Abba and Bony M.......I had to go up a few times and ask for different tunes but they definately cater for the mature person thats for sure.....all different nationalities go there which is nice....not all welcoming lets say....but thats life.....I've rated this hotel a 3 mainly due to its location.....ideal for what we wanted.....can i just say...this hotel is NOT ideal for people with young children as they don't have entertainment or anything for them......young couples won't be too inpressed either just like me and my wife...however we did find a nice British Pub at the bottom of the street so that helped with our boredom of the hotel.....This review is what me and my wife experienced at the end of september 2013.....as for other weeks or months i couldn't say.....

Just spent a week all inclusive here and although are room was quite small it was clean and had a really nice sea view, our balcony also overlooked the train station which might not suit some people as the trains are pretty regular but it did not bother us and the station is really handy for getting along the coast. The worst feature of the hotel is the dining room the food was not good and the dining room always seemed too small for the amount of guests in it,we used it 3 times and couldn't face it again we ate out for the rest of the week, the bar was pretty much the same if you paid for a drink it was poured from different bottles and served in different glasses.overall we had a good week
but I think that was more down to the weather and the amount of nice places you can get to easily on
the train than the quality of the hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a sea view because that is the only thing that makes this hotel bearable

After reading some of the reviews I was very worried about our holiday and since going to the hotel cannot understand why the hotel had such bad reviews. The food was very good, plenty of choice and cooked to a high standard. The rooms were adequate. Cleaned regularly. The showers could have been better but that was the only thing. I loved the location. Very close to the beach and the train station. The train was very cheap and reliable. I would defiantly recommend the hotel and hope to go back.
