We had a 4 night stay in this hotel late May 2014. It cost €50 Euro’s in a taxi to get there from the airport
.
The hotel is situated on a headland facing the sea. When entering the hotel the reception area is bright and clean. Everyone we spoke to on Reception spoke good English.
The bar was bright and modern, the drinks prices were very reasonable considering the 4* rating of the hotel. Cocktails at the bar were made from scratch with fresh fruit etc. There was plenty of seating and a TV showing football etc.
Bedroom
We were on the second floor, all rooms have a sea view. Although the décor was a little bit dated the room was spotlessly clean. The bathroom had loo / bidet / sink / over bath shower, plenty of towels, toiletries, hairdryer etc. There were two double wardrobes with plenty of hangers and a free safe.
Our bed was two singles pushed together with proper mattresses (a luxury in Spain I think). In fact whilst we were there, we saw loads of new mattresses coming and going so they must have been renewing them. There were two bedside tables with various lights (only downside to room was the lights were on the headboard and when you moved about in the night sometimes you accidentally switched them on!). In the corner was a small table, with an armchair and a side chair plus a lamp. The dressing table area had on a TV with a mini bar underneath, enough to put in a couple of tins of beer, a large mirror and drawers.
The balcony kind of stepped down from the sliding doors, was a good size with table and chairs but never really got an sun as was built into the side of the hotel, rather than hanging off it (If you know what I mean). The rooms were cleaned every day.
Pool
The pool area was lovely, it curved around the front of the hotel and rather than having all the sun loungers directly around the pool, there were spread in different levels, some on grass, some on patios, others on raised platforms. The sun loungers were comfortable and modern and there were plenty of showers parasols and side tables. There was a bar that opened around 11am every day and closed about 5pm, loo’s by the pool were really clean.
Restaurant / Food
The restaurant was on the ground floor overlooking the pool area; it also had a large outside terrace. All meals were served buffet style with different themes every day. From my memory there was: a huge salad bar including mixed salads, breads, soup, 4 or 5 hot dishes to choose from which ranged from stews to chilli, fish, meat, veggie dish etc. Lots of vegetable but as is usual with buffets they were overcooked. There always seemed to be sushi or a seafood salad. Desserts were the usual sloppy mousse or psychedelic cakes. It was absolutely fine, nothing to write home about but good quality. If you have fussy eaters who only like burger and chips you might struggle.
Breakfast again was standard Spanish hotel with bread, toast cereal, bacon, eggs (boiled, poached, fried or scrambled) sausage, fruit juice, champagne, salad, cold meats, cheeses, jams, soy milk, yogurt etc. Again, it was absolutely fine.
The service was pretty good, sometimes we were asked our room number, other times we weren’t, but they always checked if we wanted to order drinks.
Location
Had La Manga been in season I would have said this was a very good location, as was right near Plaza Bohemia and just a short walk to other bars and restaurants. As it was La Managa was DEAD (in MAY!).
Overall this was a good hotel, I’d never go back to La Manga as it was not just not my thing but I would not hesitate in recommending the hotel.
