We discovered this pub by accident on a walk in the Forest of Dean in January. We were hungry so had a look at their menu, it was £10 for a burger and chips but it was one of the best burgers I have ever had and it was huge! We shared one between two of us and we were very full afterwards. I can never resist a dessert especially when Amaretto is in the title, we bought the Amaretto Sundae to share and it was a treat. There was quality cream, ice cream and amaretto biscuits with plenty of alcohol at the bottom!
We then stayed in the pub part for a while with a drink next to the log burner, on a cold January day after a walk this was the best way to end it. If we are walking there again we will most definitely pop in again!

We liked this place so much we ate there three times in a week and got to try all the dishes we wanted on the menu. Recommended :)

We enquired about the availability of a table to dine for an evening meal. The barman asked the landlord if any tables were available and we received a short "no". We were made to feel very unwelcome. No suggestion that we could wait for a table or that perhaps we should book for another evening. Sadly, we had already purchased drinks, drank them as quickly as possible and took our business elsewhere.

Symmonds Yat is a beautiful area. The Saracens heads sits alongside the river. The staff are very friendly and the food is excellent and should definitely not be missed.
