This pub is a very friendly welcoming place with a varied many to suit all tastes. The food was good value for money and the service from the young staff was excellent. The whole pub could do with a lick of paint both inside and out

My friends and I enjoyed a lovely meal with great views over the river. Very friendly landlord and excellent service from the young staff. Will definately return when we are next in the area. The only thing we did notice is that the building could do with a bit of TLC and re-decoration inside and out but it didnt deter our enjoyment. Would recommend if you are in the area.

On a drizzly day we went for a walk at Symonds Yat and ended up at here for lunch as we'd read the great reviews. Considering it is the no 2 restaurant in the area, we are disappointed with the quality of the food.

The place was quite empty but we can imagine on a sunny day, it would be popular. Have to say that the menu was limited and uninspiring and the meal was expensive for what was served. I had fish and chips, it was dripping in fat as a previous reviewer had also mentioned. All four main courses looked and tasted as though they were bought in frozen and deep fried. They'd got one of our orders wrong but the mistake was quickly sorted out, which is one of their 'good' feature - speed at which food were brought to us after ordering.

When it came to paying they'd charged us for the wrong order. We didn't bother to tell them as it was not a big amount but just goes to show there's been no communication between any of the staff on the mistake.

As a family get together we had planned a walk-pub-walk sort of thing, but the less brave resorted to just "pub" as it was pouring and cold after a decent week of sunshine and high hopes.
The fireplace at table 10 just got us stuck and well tuned for nibbles and lunch. all done with a super speedy service (drinks at the bar, if you're dying) and generally good genuine food.
Being cider area, you should not miss out - but do ask for explanations and suggestions, of which there are plenty.
Good for a get-together and children are welcome.
People canoeing down the Wye use the area as a base.

Great views with good beer and food ideal to watch the world go by on a sunny day after a walk in the surrounding area
