“Fantastic”
Reviewed 4 January 2014

We have just had an absolutely brilliant New Year. The room as always was lovely, our 3rd stay in room 16, the food was very good and the party was brilliant. Graham and all his staff go out of their way to make you feel at home and nothing is too much trouble. I hope that we will return for next New Year with maybe a visit in between. If you like mod cons with constant wifi access and phone signal this is not the place for you but if you want a charming, relaxing place with bags of character you won't be disappointed

Great experience at The Royal Lodge - an absolutely beautiful and peaceful setting, a warm welcome by friendly and efficient staff and a lovely spacious room with a view of the river. Everything was spotlessly clean. The only improvements would be a bigger, refurbished bathroom with a bath or a bigger shower (my 6'1'' partner had to duck to get under the showerhead!) and to replace that squeaking squealing toaster at breakfast! Thanks so much for a great weekend, we would love to come back again.

Stayed here for 2 nights and loved every minute! The staff couldn't be more helpful and the location was stunning. We decided to try the restaurant as other guests had recommended it to us and the food was the best we have had for a very long time! Compliments to the chef!
Many thanks we will be back again!

We had a 2 day KGB deal here and it was absolutely fantastic. Room 4 looked out on the garden and river with stunning views. The room was spacious and had a bath so it was good to have a soak after a days walking. We ate in the hotel both evenings and the food was very good, if not a little expensive. The breaksfast had everything, and was excellently cooked. The hotel situation is iydllic and has lovely walks around the river. Will be back.

Room Tip: room 4 is very good

This hotel has an absolutely fabulous location set by the side of the river Wye. There is a nice garden area at the front and also an area of decking where you can sit out on summer days and evenings. We were initially given a room on the top floor which again had a marvellous view but I have a heart and mobility condition and found climbing the stairs just too strenuous. I must admit that I should have warned the hotel about this in advance but the staff were absolutely fantastic!!! They spotted the problem straight away and insisted that I moved to the ground floor. They said that they wanted us to enjoy our stay and it was great to feel that we were not being a nuisance. We had upgraded to a room with a King size bed and it was very nice, spacious and well decorated. I had read reviews prior to booking about "Looking Tired" but I found no evidence of this whatsoever. We ate in the restaurant for evening meal and breakfast and the food was reasonably priced, hot and delicious. I would recommend the hotel to anyone who wants a peaceful quiet location with lovely walks and beautiful scenery.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel have fantastic views

Oh dear. The location is stunning, the service from Grace and Amy excellent but we thought the place was dull and whilst the cooked breakfast was excellent, it was'nt worth the additional £12.99pp on top of the cost of the room. Although our room had new curtains, it was basic as was the bathroom, and the mattress with it's creaking springs didn't rate 4*. We had a fabulous view down the river but whilst the lights had to be turned on in the bar in order for us to have a night cap, someone turned on an extremely bright spotlight, which illuminated the front of the
hotel all night and our room!

I am sure this is a lively place in the summer, but apart from the dining room, it really is in need of refurbishment to give it 4 stars

We thank our guest for their kind comments regarding the level of service and quality of food that they experienced during their stay.

It is unfortunate that our guest did not deem our award winning breakfast to be value for money.

We wish to apologise that during our guests stay the timer had failed on the exterior lighting. This has since been rectified.
