just spent a weekend at the royal lodge hotel... what can i say it was great.... fantastic room on the top floor over looking the river. The river was high when we arrived but there was no problems staff very nice and helpful. we ate in the resturant for both nights meals top class we stayed in both nights to a roaring fire brill. The hotel is a great place if your looking to unwind and relax and plenty of walks along the river. we will be visiting again in the autum.

We were given our 2 night stay for Christmas, and can honestly say it's one of the best presents we have ever had. Our stay at The Royal Lodge was just wonderful. We arrived a little early and did not expect to go straight to our room, but as it was ready we were shown straight to it. We found the room very clean and cosy with a lovely view of the river (my only moan the room was very hot but once the windows were open and radiators turned down it was fine).

The food presentation and service in the restaurant were 2nd to none, we ended up eating in the restaurant both nights and would probably have eaten there again if we had stayed longer!

All of the Staff were so very friendly and made us feel at home from the minute we walked through the door, nothing was too much trouble.

The location was idyllic with beautiful walks on the doorstep, and the only hustle bustle was watching the dog walkers and hikers go by.

We will definitely be going back to stay here again.

Stayed for one night at The Royal Lodge to break up a journey and on the recommendation of family and wished we could have stayed longer. Arrived at midday to a warm welcome and explained we wanted to go for a walk with the dog and were given directions for the best place to walk. Went for a long walk with the dog in the beautiful, tranquil and scenic forest surrounding the hotel. It was so quiet and relaxing and the perfect walk! Was welcomed back and shown to our dog friendly room which had lovely views of the River Wye. The room was comfy and a hot shower was just what we needed after the walk.

We decided to eat dinner in the hotel and this was the icing on the cake. The food was beyond excellent - one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in! I had steak and my boyfriend had duck, can recommend both as well as starters and desserts, it was all perfect and compliments to the chef! The atmosphere in the hotel is so relaxing and friendly and the staff are an asset to the hotel, nothing is too much for them and they were very accomodating and attentative. The food was also reasonably priced and the menu had lots of choice.

Breakfast in the morning was just as tasty and well presented and the hostess was very friendly and welcoming.

The Royal Lodge is definitely a hidden gem and I wish I lived closer so I could visit more often but have recommended it to family and friends. The staff, the location, and the quality of food all make this place such a pleasure to visit.

I also want to say a huge thank you to the staff for finding my earrings that I left behind and sending them back in the post to me, they were so helpful and the earrings are very sentimental so I was thrilled to get them back.

Hopefully visit again soon but thank you to all for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: Cannot beat the river views.

My husband I were staying in a different hotel in Symonds Yat and the road got flooded so no-one could get to their cars. The Royal Lodge arranged a tractor and trailer to get there guests cars through the flood so they could get out via a Forestry track. We asked if it was possible that it could be done for us although we weren't staying with them, they said it was no trouble at all and they managed to get the car across the flood so we could head off home. The staff were excellent and very helpful. The previous night we had a meal at the Royal Lodge and the food and service were excellent. Once again thank you Royal Lodge for your help.

This is hotel as fulfilled everything that was advertised! My girlfriend and I stayed stayed in room 1 of this fantastic hotel, bathroom huge! Bedroom huge! Bed itself was of too quality! Slept very well.
Dinner and breakfast offered variance and were extremely flexible to the 'fussy eaters' aka ME! Wonderful steak!
All staff here are very welcoming, professional and will cater to all your needs. There is a mention of bad signal and poor Wi-Fi in other reviews! The hotel is in a valley!!! And to be honest why would you need your phone whilst your on a break?! Wi-Fi is perfect in the sitting room.
Visit this hotel if you want fantastic views, food, comfy beds, relaxation and above all staff that actually care about your stay at there hotel.

Thankyou for a great couple of days!! Alex & Amelia x

We stayed here for one night over the weekend, the staff were very helpful, the room was clean and spacious and the bed was very very comfortable. Breakfast was more than ample and very tasty and saw us well into our walk on the Sunday.

The only downside that I could see and this was more of an observation than a complaint, was the food, atmosphere and menu! Having already been recommended the Saracens head by friends, we decided to check out both venues and menus before making a decision about where to eat that evening. After looking a both menus, and reading reviews on trip advisor we decided on the Saracens head. As we left for our meal, the royal lodge restaurant looked very empty in contrast to saracens which was packed, and when we returned at about 10, it looked like the bar was shut. It could just be the time of year and I really hope that it is, because it would be such a shame if a lovely venue like this was let down by its evening ambience and restaurant.

We thank our guest for choosing to stay with us at the Royal Lodge.

Pleased to hear that they enjoyed their stay and our award winning breakfast.

It is unfortunate that our guest chose to post a negative comment regarding our food and menu without allowing us the chance to provide them with an evening meal.

In low season we do have quiet evenings and hope that in the future our valued guest will choose to stay with us again and give us the opportunity to deliver an enjoyable evening experience.
