I have just returned from another fabulous break at this excellent hotel, yet again I can report that the extended weekend was superb. All the staff were very friendly, and as usual made us all feel very welcome. They were attentive at all times and the breakfast and evening meals were served with just the right amount of familiarity and good humoured banter.

The quality of food was as usual excellent and I am glad to say the portions were good, well presented and piping hot. I will certainly be returning later this year with family and friends for another recharge of my batteries before the winter gloom sets in.

If you are looking for a restful, friendly but very original hotel set in wonderful countryside give this one a try you will not be disappointed. If you prefer identical chain type rooms, piped music, sulky staff, plastic or burger chain food then go to another place.

I hope you enjoy your stay I certainly did!!!
Tony

Room Tip: Room 16 is overlooking the river, room 19 has panoramic views of the river too.

I stayed here for a long weekend to celebrate my Grandmother's 80th birthday, the hotel was very accommodating of all of our needs and the rooms were lovely.
The surroundings are beautiful, even when it's raining and the river was close to flooding!

We were given our 2 night stay for Christmas, and can honestly say it's one of the best presents we have ever had. Our stay at The Royal Lodge was just wonderful. We arrived a little early and did not expect to go straight to our room, but as it was ready we were shown straight to it. We found the room very clean and cosy with a lovely view of the river (my only moan the room was very hot but once the windows were open and radiators turned down it was fine).

The food presentation and service in the restaurant were 2nd to none, we ended up eating in the restaurant both nights and would probably have eaten there again if we had stayed longer!

All of the Staff were so very friendly and made us feel at home from the minute we walked through the door, nothing was too much trouble.

The location was idyllic with beautiful walks on the doorstep, and the only hustle bustle was watching the dog walkers and hikers go by.

We will definitely be going back to stay here again.

Stayed for one night at The Royal Lodge to break up a journey and on the recommendation of family and wished we could have stayed longer. Arrived at midday to a warm welcome and explained we wanted to go for a walk with the dog and were given directions for the best place to walk. Went for a long walk with the dog in the beautiful, tranquil and scenic forest surrounding the hotel. It was so quiet and relaxing and the perfect walk! Was welcomed back and shown to our dog friendly room which had lovely views of the River Wye. The room was comfy and a hot shower was just what we needed after the walk.

We decided to eat dinner in the hotel and this was the icing on the cake. The food was beyond excellent - one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in! I had steak and my boyfriend had duck, can recommend both as well as starters and desserts, it was all perfect and compliments to the chef! The atmosphere in the hotel is so relaxing and friendly and the staff are an asset to the hotel, nothing is too much for them and they were very accomodating and attentative. The food was also reasonably priced and the menu had lots of choice.

Breakfast in the morning was just as tasty and well presented and the hostess was very friendly and welcoming.

The Royal Lodge is definitely a hidden gem and I wish I lived closer so I could visit more often but have recommended it to family and friends. The staff, the location, and the quality of food all make this place such a pleasure to visit.

I also want to say a huge thank you to the staff for finding my earrings that I left behind and sending them back in the post to me, they were so helpful and the earrings are very sentimental so I was thrilled to get them back.

Hopefully visit again soon but thank you to all for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: Cannot beat the river views.
