“Still 'rooms for improvement'”

We booked in late September, got the best room in the hotel (r19) should be £250 for 2 nights, we paid £195 night, had a 4 poster bed, Whoopee do!! The rest of the room was a bit shabby.
We read previous blogs on this Hotel after we'd booked, and would have cancelled but we'd paid a big deposit. However there has been an attempt to improve things, a TV in the room, a few tourist 'things to do' leaflets in reception and the smell of paint everywhere covering up the old and battered woodwork.
The restaurant area had obviously had a makeover, new tables and chairs, modern and clean, the breakfast ok. We had dinner in the Saracens, just down the road and if we ever return to Symonds Yat we'll stay there!

What a great restaurant, the food will have you wanting more and you you get that the next morning with your breakfast, a meal to last you until dinner.
A lovely atmosphere and great service the head waitress was a pleasure and very relaxed and organised all the way through are evening meal, nothing was too much to ask.
Our room was great, very comfortable beds our 10 year old wanted to take it home.
The bathroom was functional.
The little extras af water and biscuits all welcomed.
Can't wait to go again to try the next special on the menu with some wine which I hope and pray has come from another great source. Some more sweet wines would be a great addition.

Well what can i say had a fantastic 4 day break at the Royal Lodge, it was clean friendly and had a fantastic atmosphere. The staff were really helpful and full of fun and enthusiasm, nothing was to much for them. The food was brilliant and the place was clean and tidy. Even the staff from Wyedean canoe and adventure center were very friendly. Would highly recommend.

We arrived at the hotel to be greeted by a great pair of staff at the front desk, room was very clean, awesome views and a position most hotels dream of.
The food and service is top rate, great menu at sensible prices along with a good wine list.
Plenty of activities to do,like canoe hire, walking or for the more adventerouse ,rock climbing etc run by the wyedean canoe and adventure centre of which we had a great day out with.
I do not get some of the negative reviews on the hotel,as it is a very old ex royal hunting lodge with lots of character and not a travel lodge!
Just glad we decided to have a look for ourselves, the manager could not do enough for us.

Stop at this hotel for 1 night for my husbands birthday and all I can say is I was glad it was for one night only !! On arrival we were told that we were being upgraded as the hotel was empty, which was nice, and shown to a room with a 4 poster bed. The room itself was Ok but the bathroom wasn't too good with the worst shower ever....hot then cold whichever way you moved the taps !!
We booked a table in the restaurant and had the worst meal ever. After 3 mouth fulls I sent it back....to be told by the waitress I wasn't the 1st to complain about the risotto (wish she'd told me before I ordered) and on return told me that there was no mushrooms in the 'mushroom risotto' as the chef had given them all to another guest who had requested the risotto !!!!!! Oh well you live and learn !

I had taken my husband for a mid week break in worcester. We decide to go to symonds yat on our way back home - When we arrived there - What can I say, it was beautiful (the location). NOT THE ACCOMMODATION
So I popped into the hotel to see if they had any availbilty, Welcomed by 3 young girls behind a so called reception - they said they had 1 room left and said it was a superior room - god I would have hated to see a standard - the room smelt of damp and there was cobwebs with dried out spiders sitting in the dusty webs in the bathroom.
We stay and had a snacks in the bar - the staff in the bar area were lovely

Would only reccomend it if you were desperate

Stayed here to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday with a party of 18 adults and children. The rooms were all clean with great views of the river. The only word of warning would be that it's a steep climb to some of the rooms and little provision has been made for disabled or elderly guests. That said the location is superb and the food both for our evening meal and breakfast was excellent. The staff were friendly and looked after us well and little touches (such as providing a cling film dispenser for us to wrap up birthday cake) made our weekend.
