Description: "Mangiasti" is commonly used by Sicilian old generations instead of "How are you?" Literally translated "Have you eaten?", "Mangiasti" genuinely enquires about your health. If you eat, you are well, if you eat well, you feel even better! When thinking about Sicily, people think of the Godfather or, of course, the Mafia. Yet there is a much sweeter reputation that Sicily is also known for - good food.

“Hidden gem”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Been visiting this place for several weeks now. It is becoming an addiction.

It sells a narrow range of sandwiches, arancini (deep fried rissotto balls), pizza, calzone and a few other small savoury items. They are fantastic, excellent flavours and handmade and highly artisan in style.

there are also some fantastic patisserie style sweet things to eat. Very reasonably priced. Not a place to visit on a diet but very very good food.

My only worry is whether enough people know about it for them to make any money. Everything is made that day and super fresh- it must be quite labour intensive.

Coffee is very good, probably one of the best in the town. You'd have to be a major mug to spend money in tax dodgers Costa Coffee when you have local gems like Mangiasti & Carlo who are part of the community.

It is a very welcome addition to chertsey town and I hope people in the town try it out.

“Home-cooked Sicilian food”
Reviewed 9 May 2014

Mangiasti has only been open a few weeks, but already we can't stay away. By home-cooked, I don't mean mamma in the kitchen, I mean a professional chef making fresh Sicilian savouries and patisserie on the premises. For lunch today we had a ravazzatta each (like a tiny cottage loaf stuffed with melting bechamel, mozzarella and ham) and a handmade truffle coated in toasted almonds. Oh, and two lattes. All for £8. The cannoli are just as good as you get in Palermo. Inspector Montalbano is always buying a dozen of these and I can see why, though I couldn't (possibly) manage more than one.
