“What more can I say?”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

We have recently stayed at Crubenbeg House again (6 stays in 3 years). Everything about the place is superb (including the amazing hospitality received from John and Irene). Our room was, as always, so quiet, relaxing and peaceful and the meals, as always, were pure excellence in every respect. What more can I say apart from a great 'thank you' to John and Irene and roll on next year!!

JVS. There's not a lot more we can say, either, except thanks very much for your kind words and, of course, for the undoubted pleasure of your company. Until the next time........ John.

Stayed here with our two dogs for 1 night as a stopover on our journey North. We were given a great welcome from our hosts Irene and John with tea and home-bake which was delicious. The dogs were also made to feel welcome. The house is beautiful and in an idealic setting. Our room was very comfortable indeed with all the special extras like dressing gowns and quality shower gel and moisturizing cream etc. To top it all we were able to relax in the evening with other guests over a few malt whiskeys and the breakfast the following morning was amazing and set us up for the day.
Will definately be back again sometime but hopefully for a bit longer.

JanSim, You'll not mind us saying that you are just too kind. Thanks very much for your words about your all-too-brief stay with us. We very much enjoyed your company and are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us too. The first, we hope, of a good few in times to come. Thanks again, John.

Everything was just perfect, from the warm welcome to the beautiful room with every comfort, excellent dinner and breakfast - but there's more! We were on a backpacking walking trip and arrived tired, with a wet tent and damp sleeping bags. In no time John had these hanging on the washing line in the sun, while Irene revived us with tea and cake.
The house is in a beautiful rural setting but very convenient for the A9 if you are touring Scotland. If you want somewhere special to stay with a generous measure of kindness thrown in, this place is perfect. Our stay at Crubenbeg House was one of the highlights of our trip.

Rating our recent 3-night stay at Crubenbeg House is easy - it was EXCELLENT in all respects. But more than that - it was SPECIAL. It is a lovely house, standing in a beautiful location. But it ‘specialness’ is down to its welcoming, hospitable, personable, and skilled hosts. They are so accommodating, and friendly, but also efficient and gifted in their approach. We loved being there, and there is so much we could mention and commend ... but here's a summary.
Our spacious and well appointed ground floor room would be ideal for anyone with limited mobility. It was perfect for us as our prime reason for being there (on this occasion) was to support our son on a 200-mile trek (The Great Outdoors Challenge) from west coast to east; and, as the hostel in Newtonmore was full, John and Irene very kindly allowed him to pitch his tent on their lawn, a few yards from our side door.
Breakfasts are superb, with a mouth-watering, creative choice of first-class ingredients, so efficiently prepared and well presented by Irene, and delivered to the table by John with his unique style of humorous and entertaining repartee (I loved it!). They are such a good team, and so helpfully knowledgeable about the area. We also enjoyed two delicious evening meals, prepared and served with the same skill ... and rounded off with a dram from the local distillery.
We totally concur with what other reviewers say about John and Irene’s warm friendliness; for example, they gave my wife a card to pass on to me on my birthday a couple of days later.
As a retired couple, we travel a lot these days, but we are already thinking of a time slot when we might be able to return to Crubenbeg, or send other family members there.

Philli, Wow.

Thanks for those delightfully kind words and thoughts. You have really brightened up a dreich day here in the Highlands.

We are both touched that you enjoyed your time with us and it was a pleasure having The Hiker camped on our lawn too. We are thrilled that he finished The Challenge - well done him.

We shall now just have to be patient, I guess, until we get to see you again - once that planning is done, please don't hesitate to get int ouch.

Until then, all the very best,

Mein Host - John.

I stayed recently for a short (very short!) break with my disabled sister-in-law, who found the ground-floor special needs suite very well thought out, warm and comfortable. Although my room was not en-suite, it had a private bathroom and the thoughtful addition of robes for guests' use meant it wasn't a big deal to cross the landing to it. The inclusion of a wash basin and well-lit mirror in the bedroom itself also meant teeth-cleaning and makeup could easily be done in the bedroom. We both enjoyed the friendly hospitality of John and Irene - as another reviewer wrote, it felt like staying with friends. As the driver, I particularly appreciated the fact they have a licence so I could enjoy wee local malt or two and a chat with Irene after we returned from dinner. Free WiFi meant I could also catch up with work and plan where we might visit next day. Breakfast was wonderful - home-made bread and imaginative menu items as well as the standard choices, beautifully cooked. I'll remember the breakfast cranachan for a long time! And I'll be back - probably with hubby and dogs (which are welcome) next time.

Elma, My oh my. That is some billing for us to live up to, thank you. Mind you, we love to keep having the bar raised, it stops us resting on our laurels and we can't be having that, can we?

We are delighted that you both enjoyed your all-too-brief stay with us and we do look forward to your return - this time with hubby & the hounds in tow.

Thanks again.

John.

We first spoke to John, the owner, back in Australia while we were booking our room and following a bit of banter back and forth about the Ashes, already felt like we knew him before we arrived! He and Irene are incredible hosts who make you feel instantly at home. Crubenbeg House is a beautiful property in a rural setting and we spent 2 wonderful days there. John and Irene helped us plan our days based around the areas used for filming " Monarch of the Glen" and we were happily successful in visiting all the sites we particularly wanted to see. Irene has the most comprehensive breakfast menu we have come across and her cooking is outstanding-- we had a dinner there as well! So thanks, John and Irene for an outstanding time in a great B and B. We would highly recommend Crubenbeg House.

You know, one of the utter joys of doing what we do is that we do make new friends, fortunately in our case, with many of our guests. We are then doubly fortunate in that so many of them come and see us again - its is just like having friends to stay.

Irene & I are delighted that you enjoyed your time in our lovely part of the world and we would like to thank you two for sharing the hints & tips about places to see & things to do (plus when not to go!) in your part of the world.

All the very best & thanks again, (PS Don't forget the Catullus!)

John.

There are no negatives I can think of for our stay at Crubenbeg House. We were greeted with a very warm welcome and were made to feel at home as soon as we arrived. We bought our dog with us and it was her first trip away staying anywhere other than a tent. John and Irene made the dog feel very welcome as well (and even spared a sausage for her in the morning).
We sat and had a glass of wine in the evening and the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. The breakfast was absolutely amazing - we highly recommend the pancakes.
Overall, our stay was faultless and we would love to stay again.
Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable.

Michelle, Thanks very much for bringing Colin & Eva to stay with us - it was great to see you all. We are well pleased that Eva survived her first Guest House night away - I think it was the gravy bone bribery that won the day, plus the sausage, of course.

Thanks, too, of course, for taking the time to pen your review, we shall try to keep the standrads up next time we see you all. Bye for now, John.
