We were on a tour with Robbie of Insight Tours and stayed here our first night out of the "city." What a great relief to be out in the country! We were comfortable, happy and well fed at your establishment. It is not the fanciest of places, but it was just fine! And everyone should go see Neil Ross and his wonderful dogs at the Leault Farm! Thanks!

Arrived the day before New Years Eve. The hotel was warm & welcoming. There was wine & chocolates in our rooms, baskets of fresh fruit in the lounge and bowls of chocolates everywhere. The hotel staff were very friendly & helpful. Unable to go on our organised trip on New Years Eve due to the heavy snow the hotel provided us all with lunch. New Years Eve evening was excellent a good time was had by all. New Years Day lunch was again provided. A trip to the Pantomime on the Saturday in Inverness was enjoyed by all, once again the hotel provided us with a packed lunch. Would not hesitate to return.

We stayed at this hotel over the christmas period having travelled up from Cornwall with a tour company party.. Intial observasations were that the staff were very friendly and helpful.
but the room we had was very poor.decor and furnishings were well past there best .We had booked a double room expecting a double bed but were given two divans pushed together which were also uncomfortable..The ensuite consisted of handbasin toilet and a small shower cubicle. The shower didnt operate properly(this was reported to reception but during our stay nothing was done)
The only redemming fact was that food and service was exellent.

On leaving the hotel I said to the staff I would write a review as seeing some of the others on here made me feel the hotel could be “hit or miss” and I wanted to give my opinion on the Highlander Hotel. I imagine a few of the reviews are outdated now but can only give you my honest opinion as a “happy customer”.

On arrival at the hotel it seemed unpretentious and welcoming. Check in was efficient and the person behind the desk could not be more helpful (even took our cases to our rooms). I was informed that dinner was 7pm (everyone in the hotel sits at the same time). I was a bit dubious at first knowing that there were another 130 guests sitting down at the same time but as dinner proceeded I could not have complimented the staff enough on the proficient and organised way the restaurant was run. The food was excellent (especially the sweet trolley!!).
After dinner we retired to the bar to perhaps one of the most entertaining evenings we’ve had in years and there wasn’t even entertainment on! It was all down to the great atmosphere and laugh we all had with the other guests.

The room itself was spotlessly clean and have no problems to report.

I have to say that the “Highlander” may not be everyone’s cup of tea but for the cleanliness, hospitality, staff and service received it’s a class above the rest and would recommend it to everyone.

I also have to mention the Christmas decorations as they were so strikingly beautiful. (photos added).

I have already booked for the beginning of the year.

To be fair the hotel is clean, staff are friendly and rooms basic but adequate. Two nights bed and breakfast for a family of 4 for £76 can't be sneezed at, however we did eat in the hotel one night and the food quality was of school dinner standard. As a cheap base for exploring the Cairngorms it was excellent value, however you will end up eating out!!

OHIML, General Manager at Highlander Hotel, responded to this review, 15 December 2009
We are sorry that your meal at the Highlander did not meet with your expectations and having checked with the duty manager who served you we are disappointed that you did not make your feelings known at the time so we could have perhaps offered an alternative.

We receive a lot of praise for the quality our food and although we do not offer an a la carte menu our table d’hôte menu offers a good, value for money 3 course meal. We feel it is unfair that a choice of chicken, salmon or goats cheese croustade to be likened to a school dinner.

We were a bit worried on arrival as the hotel looked a little "tacky" on the outside but was very pleasantly surprised when we got to our room. We had a king size bed in a large room with excellent bathroom facilities. Despite being a couple in a hotel that catered for large groups we were made to feel welcome and the staff took time out to be very friendly & hospitable.
