“More than just a guest house!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2010

As the owners claim, Coig Na Shee is more than just a guest house but a real house away from home. The guest house is kept meticulously tidy and clean and the rooms are definitely the best we ever stayed in at a B&B, spacious and decorated with taste. The location is also ideal to explore the Western and Central Highlands within driving distance for many interesting day trips. We also found excellent dining locations in the area, also thanks to the guide provided by the owners who were very kind and helpful throughout our stay. We recommend this guest house for anyone visiting this area of Scotland and hope that we will have the opportunity to return in the future.

From the excellent communication when arraning our stay till the end of our visit we couldn't have been made to feel more welcome.
The room and public areas of the house are all kept immaculately clean and tidy and there is a real cosy feel to the place.
The bedroom is very spacious with ample storage and very comfortable seating area. Excellent hospitality tray in room and good supply of toiletries/ fluffy towels available.
The house is set just off the road out of Newtonmore in it's own grounds and so is beautifully quiet and peaceful and yet a quick 5-10mins walk from the local amenities.
Wonderful breakfasts on offer with fresh fruits, fruit juices, cereals and cooked foods to choose from.
The owners are very knowledgeable about the local area and always around for a chat or to suggest places to go and visit.
Scottish hospitality at its best - can't wait to get back again this year!

We had just two nights to spend in the Highlands, and I'm so glad we stayed at Coig na Shee. To start, the B&B is wonderful: big, almost rambling rooms and very generous bathrooms. The property was spotlessly clean, and every detail had been attended to - an excellent tea and coffee selection in our room and plenty of fluffy towels waiting to be used. The breakfasts were delicious and very filling. We happened to be the only people staying (it was just at the end of a very busy tourist season) but the owners put us right at ease with their helpful and friendly manner.

Although we picked Coig na Shee on the basis of other TripAdvisor reviews and not for its location, we were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get around from Newtonmore. We went to the Highlands Folk Museum, took the funicular railway up the Cairngorms, visited Inverness, drove around Loch Ness, and went home to Edinburgh via Fortwilliam, Glen Coe and Rannoch Moor. There are dozens of other activities and sights to see within an easy drive from Newtonmore, making it a great base for a holiday.

I can't wait to come back to Coig na Shee!

I first heard about Coig Na Shee through a colleague who was extoling the virtues of this fantasic guest house, whilst the rest of us emerged from under various sizes of soggy canvas in a nearby campsite. When I decided to come back to the area under my own steam, rather than with a group of students on their Duke of Ediburgh's Silver Award, I booked a twin room ("The Pines") for three nights.

Graeme and Marion were welcoming and hospitable hosts and went to great lengths to ensure our stay was relaxing and comfortable, even though the weather was anything but comfortable! The room was clean, beautifully presented and had a full tray of teas, coffee, spring water, biscuits etc, which was replenished each day.

However, I tend to judge the quality of accommodation first and formemost, by the cleanliness of the bathroom. Happily, I could find nothing to fault at Coig Na Shee. The en-suite (toilet and shower), although compact, was sparklingly clean, and a full complement of fresh, white towels and quality toiletries was provided. When we left (after being able to extend our visit by an extra night), we promised ouselves a return visit.

A year later, and we have just returned from our third visit (we also had a break at Easter) and have been no less impressed on this occasion.

The breakfasts are a real treat, and a good reason not to stay in bed too long. Guests can help themselves to a good range of cereals, fresh fruit, fruit juices and yoghurt, and a full cooked breakfast (or kippers) is offered in addition. Whilst I tend to skip breakfast at home, I positively looked forward to breakfast at Coig Na Shee and even tracked down the local butcher who supplies their bacon, to buy a job lot for bacon rolls over Christmas!

I would have no hesitation in recommending this gem of a guest house to anyone wanting a relaxing, comfortable and friendly base from which to explore the central Highlands and look forward to yet another visit next year.

Coig Na Shee was ideally centrally located for us and broke up our long drive from Edinburgh to the Highlands. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our beautiful large room which had everything we needed for our short one night stay. The quality of the bedding and towels were fantastic and luxuriously soft and comfortable. The freshly cooked breakfast was superb and again the high quality of the locally sourced ingredients really shown through. Our only minor complaint was that we found our room and general guest areas quite cold and not as cosy as we had imagined it to be - we had to stay under the blanket whilst watching tv. Overall though this is a top end B&B offering superb accomodation at great value.

This B&B is wonderful! Probably one of the nicest rooms we have ever stayed in and certainly the cleanest place. The attention to detail is wonderful and the decor and setting great. Our hosts were lovely aswell. All in all I would highly recommend it.

Whilst visiting relatives in Newtonmore, we stopped at Coig-na-Shee. We paid a little extra for an upgraded room (The Beeches) & were not disappointed. Very spacious bathroom with bath & separate shower. The bedroom itself was again pretty large with a sofa, large wardrobe, TV/DVD & very comfortable bed. Breakfasts were served in a beautiful dining room. We would have no hesitation in recommending to others or indeed stopping there again ourselves.
About the area - as other people have mentioned, there are many pleasant walks of varying difficulty. The Highland Folk Museum is also a very interesting place to visit. I was also fortunate enough to be treated to a round of golf at Newtonmore - the course is not too difficult & the views of the surrounding areas are stupendous. Finally, I heartily agree with all those who have recommended Blasta Restaurant as a place to eat. We ate there twice & thoroughly enjoyed it both times.
