“Lovely location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2012

We have not long returned from a lovely break at Crubenbeg. We were a large family party - ages ranging from 9 - 73 so we stayed in 2 adjoining cottages - Douglas Fir and Cedar, which suited us perfectly.

Sian and Cameron are very welcoming and were flexible with us as some of our party were staying on longer than others. The cottages are well equipped and clean, the wood burning stoves a great feature. The kids made use of the games room. Their information pack is full of good advice and tips and we enjoyed wonderful days out which we will all remember for a long time.

this year we stayed in larch cottage, last year birch cottage - both equally comfortable. this was a great setting for our holiday - lots of walking opportunities, wildlife and general relaxation.
Sian and Cameron are the owners they are on site and were very helpful yet not at all intrusive. the cottages are very well equipped and we hope to return soon.

Cottage was relatively cosy, with a log burner, and once electric heaters were on became warmer.
Enclosed garden was really useful with a dog.
Downstairs was refurbished and was fine, but upstairs was a bit 80's pine and the bathroom needed a bit of updating, but shower good.
Kitchen was a bit sparse in terms of utensils / crcokery and no dishwasher, but fine.
Pleasant rural location, and although close to A9 it wasn't a problem with regards to noise.

Last year we where here with my parents in law and we had a great time. We stayed in Douglas Fir. This year we booked a week again in Ash. Location is great and not far from Aviemore. The cottages are clean and you have everything you need even a full basket of wood for the fire place. You can fish in the back, walk, climb, etc.
We'll back again!

After staying in Elm Cottage last year, we just had to return again this year and it was even better!

The cottage is clean & cosy, perfect retreat after a days hiking or sightseeing. The surroundings are absolutely breathtaking. Sian & Cameron are very friendly and helpful, all in all we had a perfect week.
So much so that we are booking for next year.

Stayed in Cedar, had everything that you needed. This was our second visit & just as good as first. Perfect location for touring. Will return as soon as time allows.

Stayed in Birch cottage March 2012. Found cottages on the internet and the booking process was really simple, spoke to Sian a couple of times before we arrived and she was very helpful. We drove from Fareham Hampshire and arrived in the dark, Sian had left a light on for us and put the heating on. The cottages were really easy to find and well signposted from the A9.

Birch cottage has a lounge, small kitchen, bedroom and bathroom all of which were well presented, however the bedroom and bathroom were exceptional. We found the large porch area really useful for our out door kit. The cottages are well equiped and we were pleasantly surprised to find thermos flasks, tupperware pots and cleaning products. We took our beagle and he was very much at home especially as birch cottage is within the wall garden so he could safely run around outside. He quickly bagged his favourite spot of an evening roasting infront of the log burner. A basket of logs costs £5, however if you follow the instructions for a slow burning stove, a basket lasts three evenings, which we were happy with. We used £18 of electricity which we thought was a little high, however we were not particularly cautious with the electric heating as we wanted the cottage warm when we left the dog in; we also boosted the hotwater on a few occasions. This is still below the recommend price of £20 which Sian and Cameron suggest for winter months.

Whilst we noted that there were plenty of options for eating out we chose to selfcater, getting all of our produce from the local shops in Newtonmore and Kingussie. We had one trip to the Tesco Metro in Aviemore whilst we were there.

The cottages are superbly placed for a walking holiday in the Cairngorms. We are not hardcore walkers and found there was plenty of variation for us and the beagle. We did a few touristy bits and would recommend feeding the reindeer.

We wanted a quiet get away from it all holiday with our dog in pleasant surroundings and Birch cottage absolutely delivered on all counts.

Room Tip: If you have a dog ask for a cottage in the walled garden
