“what an amazing location”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

the beaches of this Cayo are fantastic , & the building of the hotel very tasteful . are group of ten had a fantastic time , but just a few points which let the hotel down- not the fault of the cuban staff but the owners Iberostar - who should invest more into this hotel as it has so much potential with its idyllic setting .
we were in the first bungalow , along with 8 of our party & couldnt fault our room, but my sister was located in the 2nd bungalow & that room was tired- shabby paintwork. Meals in the restaurant were very good , but the large diningroom did get a bit noisey from the clanging of plates, so we looked forward to the speciality restaurants - but this wasnt without its own disappointment .As the steak house was closed & the japanese only open on alternate nights , the remaining two - italian & mediteranean werenot able to offer their full menu, so we felt we just ate the same as what was available in the main restaurant that night , but it was nice to be served at the table. evening entertainment was very poor - we were glad we were in a big group & glad my nephews had brought their 'uno 'cards along .As we loved the beach so much - didnt want to leave it ,so very disappointed that the beach bar closed so early - last drinks at 5 pm

Room Tip: any of the rooms in the first bungalow block. we had rm 3022- tasteful soft furnishings, large bathr...

We were at the Iberostar Ensenachos June 2-16 , 2014. We had a couple of occasions to celebrate this year, and wanted a special place to go. We had been at the Iberostar the first year it opened and loved the property and wanted to return. It wasn't til we saw that Iberostar had taken over , we decided to go back.
We went for two weeks, in the Adults only Spa section. We were very pleased with our room, in the 2000 block. It was two stories.. and beautiful, We were close to everything. the lobby, the pool and Megano beach.
It was low season, which is fine for us. so we had the pool in the spa section pretty much to ourselves.
We did each restaurant once, then the buffet for the rest of the time. Our favourite was the Italian.
We are soccer/football fans and the World Cup started while we were there. To our delight, the animation staff did a fantastic job of setting up a large tv and display down by the cigar shop.
We had a great time watching the opening ceremonies with staff and people from all different
countries.. They really did a fine job on that!
The grounds were immaculate and the gardeners were hard at work every day..
We weren't quite sure how it would work out with the kids section being there this time. We didn't find it too bad. Kids are in the common area, and with parental supervision , it wasn't a big deal.
We loved the local music and magicians who were roaming the lobby.
The biggest factor to the enjoyment of our relaxing and enjoyable time ( besides the beautiful setting) has to be the staff. Without a doubt, we were welcomed by everyone and felt very much at home, and that they were glad we came. Not just the staff we came in contact with , but ones passing by or in other areas.. Everyone was so pleasant and happy. It makes a real difference when you feel welcome and that people are glad you came there.
Thank you for making our vacation relaxing and stress free. It is much appreciated.

Room Tip: We were given a room in block 2000, which was a perfect location to be centrally located.

Returning to this resort for 2nd time.

After I booked e-mailed to the resort for a room closer to the beach as I was traveling with my seniors parents. Brenda at the time the manager did acknowledged my e-mail and requested to send another 15 days prior to the departure date which I did and did not receive confirmation. Once I got there I learned that she was no longer there.
Same day of arrival, talked at the reception to find another room closer to the Megano beach and there was one available the next day late in the afternoon. The room itself had couple of things not working and after a few trips to the reception desk finally had someone that came to repair
(only the balcony door) which was one of the things to be repaired. The door was way to heavy to pull and the handle was broken. Was "fixed" and broken two days later. There was no point of again to request another maintenance service . Instead for us was a good exercise every time we had to use the balcony . BEDS - I did not pay 1600 for each person (two weeks) so that my father who is 70 plus years old to sleep in a canopy bed that despite the fact that bed had three duvet's underneath still was not comfortable to sleep as you could feel the metals underneath. The other bed same problem and was squeaky every time you had to make a move.
Room service - Happy with the maid service and the decorations in the room. Twice was locked outside as the card was not working and twice lucky that maid was in the building cleaning and opened the door for us. The first time that this happened (the 5th day of our stay) went to the reception and programmed the cards again and was told that would not happen again and it did -5 days after that. There was a footprint vent in the ceiling that would had been nice to use some time and did not work. Also tub was not used and the shower head not working.
Service at the restaurant - last year I would sit and by the time I was finished did not receive a glass of water. This year found it better but with a lot of interruptions from the waiters. There was only one guy on the chubby side with glasses, very professional.
Food - the first week was quiet - still low season I guess. Was not busy and there were no line up's. Except breakfast -lunch and dinner were Ok. Very few choices for warm meal. Lot of cold cuts though. On the second week got busy and finally noticed that they would have two cooks for each station especially during lunch or dinner time. The second week did notice choice of calamari ( cold or fried) choice of warm cooked shrimps, very good chicken breast, pork chops and beef steaks. First week some kind of white fish, pork and cold salad shrimp. Food was either way too salty or no salt at all. Do they think about the people that have health problems ?There is salt on the table who want to add more !!! Sups sometimes looked that you had just dumped the veggies and add water to it and other times veggies left on big pieces - for example corn cut in really big pieces- what are we animals? Other times delicious. Fruits - mango , papaya, pineapple and another fruit mamey - very good, but whoever came early ( either breakfast ,lunch or dinner ) was lucky to get fruits and other people were not. The second week the seasonal fruits like mango and papaya just disappeared from the table.
Shuttle services - I believe the hotel has 2 or 3 shuttles and every time you would need one - none available.Very hard for seniors after lunch time to walk back to their room under the hot sun keeping in mind the fact that the resort is big. In the evening you were afraid to walk as the area on where my bungalow was located some of the lights were not working so had to wait at the front and wait for one of the shuttle buses. Also after the show in the evening there were a lot of people with kids waiting for shuttle buses and nobody would care, you just had to wait.
Shows - Not a quality for 5 star hotel - liked the costumes and after the first week they were repetitive.
-A la Carte - Booked Seafood and when we got there the restaurant was closed. Was not informed.
Lobby - Would be nice to have Footprint vents co circulate the air as it's hot. Most of the times because of the A/C the bar was full and no where to sit .
BEACH - both Megano and Ensenachos - MAGNIFIQUE. This was the reason we returned to this resort and for two weeks because the first time one week was not enough. The first week the beach chairs were left un-attended compare on the second week. Some other times chairs were removed from the cabana despite the fact that your staff was left there.
The bar at the pool and at the beach both closed at 5.00pm so you were left without a simple glass of water. Had to bring from the room .Did have a good time but not sure if coming back again to this resort.

I would consider this a 3.5 star resort max and NOT a " Luxury Hotel "

Till next time.....

I could talk all day long about the great time our group (three families-12 people) had at the Iberostar Ensenachos Especially when factoring in and understanding the challenges these people face when giving you a first class vacation for a next to nothing price. Why you should go and why we will return to the Iberostar is for the incredible beaches and aquatic experience and for the amazing people that keep this resort running as best they can with the resources they are given. We made our first visit because of recommendations from a number of our colleagues that have gone to this resort annually for years. The beaches are spectacular, however, you will probably not see American travel writers rank them with Maui's Waimea or Kaanapali beach, but, in my opinion, they are as good and better in many aspects. The snorkeling from the beach is very good. Go in the morning, high tide is best. The sand is so fine and cool. The water clarities and color is amazing. Take a free sail with one of the staff out to the break water or walk out at low tide to the sunken ship. Walk or run down the full length of the two beaches playa ensenachos and playa mengano. It was very hard to leave this place after only one week and the memories are lingering long. Although the resort's food and alcohol were not one of our top priorities it was extremely interesting and refreshing to see how food tastes without the influences from the American big sugar companies, over salting, artificial flavoring...... Our group of twelve had not one complaint. It was no problem being seated together and the service for our large group was flawless. Our rooms for the little time we spent in them were very comfortable and the pool features and service were great. One of the most memorable hangouts for us was the evenings spent in the piano bar. Take the time to get to know the pianist. She is incredible. We could not stump her with probably over twenty song requests from the kids and the adults. It was also fun trying the many fancy tropical drinks serve. If you are put off by minor power outages, computer systems that seem slow and archaic, maintenance repairs that either seem make-shift or take some time to compete, food that does not taste like the food at home then it is safe to say you have not taken the time to get to know the cuba people and understand and appreciate the situation you and they are in. There is a good reason why the man you will see everyday running a 15yr old Honda leaf blower needs to start the engine of it using what looks like a broken shoe lace. These people make do with what they can find. They work long and hard hours. They put up with things we can not imagine - and they are the lucky ones. If you do not take the time to get to know at least one of them, then you are really missing out on an amazing Cuban experience. I highly recommend this resort. It is in an absolutely beautiful and unique location and is full of amazing staff that deserve much respect and gratitude.

Room Tip: Bring good shoes lots of walking. Bring lots of tip money - think about how you tip at home and at...

For those backpackers reading this review, no you are away from Cuba, stuck between Canadian tourists complete detached from the real Cuba. But hey give yourselve a retreat, let your kid(s) enjoy the wonderful kids club and enjoy the berst beach in Cuba.

Whilst travelling around Cuba for 3 weeks, we gave ourselves a little retreat to this resort. The best feature? The beach. In June during low season the crowds are very managable, and for all-in resorts the food and drinks are high-standard.
The staff is friendly and the rooms were clean. I would rate the rooms as upper middle-class compared to European city hotels. The staff service as high-end.

We were clumsy enough to forget our tablet computer in our room. A phone-call the next day made clear that the maid had found it and brought it to receiption. The hard part is to get our iPad back or send. As not the service hotline, nor the facebook page, nor the email adress I was given via the facebook page, nor the contact form on the Iberostar is responding to my emails. If you haven't booked via an agency there appears nothing the Iberostar chain is able or willing to help you in lost and found. So look after your belongins closely.

Room Tip: The grounds of the resort cover a huge, huge area. We stayed in block 41, which walks you straight t...

A very nice property with wonderful, attentive staff that will do it all to ensure you have a great stay. That's how I want to start this review. We had never stayed at an Iberostar property and had heard nothing but good things and we were not disappointed. The resort itself was well laid out and an email to the resort with a wish list (location, bed preference etc.) ensured a great location close to all amenities. Food was very good by Cuban standards and by that I mean that selection and quality are always a topic of concern for food on the island. Every meal was good and the beach snack bar was great for lunch.
The resort itself could use some repairs in areas and Wi-Fi is a new concept in Cuba so we went off grid for the 2 weeks but really didn't miss it. Water pressure in the shower was also not great but that's where the negative ends.
The beach is awesome the pools were great and the staff were truly great. They work hard to keep us happy and they would be the reason that we would return. The property is a good 2 hours from Santa Clara so we really didn't do any visiting during our stay. We just walked the gorgeous beach and enjoyed the beauty of natural Cuba. Also a surprise was a resort gym where all of the equipment was in good working condition. This is due to the work of the young man working in the gym that spends his day tending to the equipment and making sure the gym users are hydrated by bringing water and towels without fail.
Building 21 in the Spa section is close to everything. Gym, Pool, food/lobby and the walkway to the beach.
In short, we very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend the resort to anyone. All of the people we met on the property seemed happy with the resort as well. You have to have an open mind in Cuba as the island itself just doesn't have the same advantages as other holiday destinations. If you can do this as a traveller, you'll love this place like we did.

Room Tip: If travelling without the kids, spend a little more and opt for the adults only Spa section of the r...

We just came back from here. There are some things that I feel this resort can improve on. Check in took too long and some waited with kids for several hours. Please, I hope you improve this, with more computers and scanners for the passports.
One night we had booked Italian at one of the places for fine dinning. When we arrived the doors were closed , and several others also were waiting. Please, have a note on the door. or someone in customer relations to let us know at the premise it is closed. We stood there and wondered.
Several people had a problem with the extending the checkout of the hotel. An appointment was arranged with a Manager and I felt it was not handled well when we were all English speaking and she spoke Spanish in front of all of us.
It is a beautiful place, the beach is amazing like no other. The wait staff is exceptional and the theatre performers are outstanding. Please go. Recommendation for more promotion, a larger more well placed signs for the performances, that these outstanding individuals give each night to delight us of Cuba.
