“Great place for relaxing break”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

We stopped here again recently and enjoyed like last time the freshly cooked food and great coffee in relaxing surroundings.Admittedly it was a picture perfect Otago autumnal morning.
Will plan to stop again and recommend others to take a break and enjoy the coffee, food and a browse of adjoining local stores.

“Service problems”
Reviewed 3 May 2014 via mobile

I have been a long time supporter of the Tarras cafe but the service has become, at times, surly and unpleasant. The food/ coffee is always great and worth the premium, no complaints there, indeed it keeps me coming back hoping for better service. It seems the more popular the cafe becomes the instances of poor service become more and more frequent. Shame. To be fair most of the staff and especially the baristas provide great service often under pressure. However one dusky maiden would be better off working in a shearing shed than a cafe. Her treatment of us and another couple on our last visit was particularly off hand and unpleasant. Muttering away to colleagues under her breath and throwing items at customers. Management need to step up and sort it out before more of her victims pop up on this page.

“Coffee and heavenly cake.”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

Stopped for some emergency caffeine and happened to puchase some Carrot cake and another apple and cinamon roll type delight. They were both sensational and as good as you could hope to find in a cafe anywhere. Very pleasant little village and great coffee and cake. Result!

“Don't Just Drive Past”
Reviewed 19 February 2014

We almost did drive past as we were expecting a small village, or some houses, and nearly missed this place. We were looking for a morning coffee stop on our way down to Queenstown so pulled off here. The coffee was excellent, as were the cakes we ordered. If we had been later in the day we might have stopped for lunch but the experience was still good. I can see why this place is so busy on a Thursday morning!

“Good food and coffee”
Reviewed 11 February 2014 via mobile

Stopped here twice to/from Queenstown and had a great meal and coffees.

I had the eggs on toast and the serving waz generous. Sat outside in the sun and it was beautiful - also fed those cool little birds (probably not meant to but they're awesome).

We also both had a cheesecake served with yoghurt and it was delicious.

It's a lovely little cafe with nice scenery and a perfect location mid-journey. Wasn't super cheap but small businesses need to survive so can't begrudge them and at the same time - wasn't as expensive as some lesser food we had in Queenstown.
