Found this cafe by chance on a trip to Twizel - it's a lovely spot and the service was spot on. I could not fault the coffee - it was perfect and well done to the lass behind the machine! - however paying $5.50 for a small flat white is a bit on the nose - it's more than I pay in Auckland!

That said it's a great spot to stop and revive with a good brew - and if you are lucky they will have the fire burning.

We stopped here again recently and enjoyed like last time the freshly cooked food and great coffee in relaxing surroundings.Admittedly it was a picture perfect Otago autumnal morning.
Will plan to stop again and recommend others to take a break and enjoy the coffee, food and a browse of adjoining local stores.

I have been a long time supporter of the Tarras cafe but the service has become, at times, surly and unpleasant. The food/ coffee is always great and worth the premium, no complaints there, indeed it keeps me coming back hoping for better service. It seems the more popular the cafe becomes the instances of poor service become more and more frequent. Shame. To be fair most of the staff and especially the baristas provide great service often under pressure. However one dusky maiden would be better off working in a shearing shed than a cafe. Her treatment of us and another couple on our last visit was particularly off hand and unpleasant. Muttering away to colleagues under her breath and throwing items at customers. Management need to step up and sort it out before more of her victims pop up on this page.

Stopped for some emergency caffeine and happened to puchase some Carrot cake and another apple and cinamon roll type delight. They were both sensational and as good as you could hope to find in a cafe anywhere. Very pleasant little village and great coffee and cake. Result!

We almost did drive past as we were expecting a small village, or some houses, and nearly missed this place. We were looking for a morning coffee stop on our way down to Queenstown so pulled off here. The coffee was excellent, as were the cakes we ordered. If we had been later in the day we might have stopped for lunch but the experience was still good. I can see why this place is so busy on a Thursday morning!
