“Generally a good hotel but some of the restaurant staff are arrogant”
Reviewed 15 February 2011

Staff arrogance should completely be corrected; even if the client is at mistake they should be polite in answering and try to keep their guests happy at all times.
Example: It was in the restaurant near the Beach when we ordered some drinks before helping ourselves for dinner. We were served by a lady, a bit fat with black framed prescription eye glasses. I had beer before my dinner and wanted to have sprite after. We called the same waitress and asked her to bring one sprite only to be arrogantly told that we should give an order all at once and in fact sprite is not available. Soon, we called another waitress who was kind enough to take our order and brought us what we wanted-sprite. Imagine the huge difference of good will and politeness. Hotel Seme Beach need to arrange a training for its staff specially those who interact with guests.

Reviewed 13 December 2010

I stayed at Seme Beach hotel after reading about it on Tripadvisor and in my guidebook. This hotel is seemingly one of the better hotels in the greater Limbe area. Let me summarize my experience in a December 2010 weekend as follows:

> Rooms have working fixtures, TV, hot shower and AC
> TV has a few satellite channels, all in French. Only English channel is CNN
> Some rooms in the main building have ocean view (although 100 meter from the ocean)
> Ocean view and AC room in main building CFA 35000 per night
> Road view and AC room (basic room) in main building CFA 25000 per night
> Suites and apartments also available, at prices from CFA 50000 per night
> Rooms in the main building definitely need a new lick of paint, new doors and new bathtubs. Don't know about the other building and apartments
> Rooms are clean, safe and tidy
> Staff is very helpful and friendly most of the time. The higher in hierarchy, the nicer
> Hotel manager and restaurant manager are exceptionally friendly
> Breakfast is mediocre, but edible and safe. Coffee, fruit and croissants free, rest at charge
> Restaurant by the sea is very good, but pricy for Africa. Set menus Su-Fr for CFA 6000, 9000 and 12000. Good quality and quantity
> On Saturday night not-too-expensive and good hot (3 options) and cold (3 salads) buffet
> Bottles beers at CFA 1200, small draft CFA 1200, large draft CFA 1600
> Live background music at the evenings I was there (Fr and Sa)
> Functional 'nightclub' on some evenings
> Five or six souvenir shops on the grounds
> Hotel has nice stretch of private beach, with guards. Very safe for children!
> Hotel also has very clear springwater stream, with fresh water to swim in
> Activities: horeseback riding, swimming, playground, tennis, volleyball
> Hotel has in-house mountain trekking office, but make reservations in advance. They cannot organize mountain trips (up Mt Etinde or Mt Cameroon) for the same day
> Excursion to 1999 lava flow can be done on foot. 500 meter walk.
> Limbe town center at about 12 kilometers (7 miles) away
> Private taxi to Limbe organized by hotel: CFA 5000 (one way)
> Shared taxi to Limbe from street: CFA 2000, possibly less (one way)
> Travel time to central Douala weekday: 2 hours, Sunday 1 hour

Best hotel near Limbe on nice and quiet spot outside the city. Fair beach and sports activities. Nice and clean rooms in new buidling. The other parts on the hotel feels dirty, also the restaurants. Poor service level from large part of the staff. Staff earning money on services, e.g. when the staff order a taxi, it is more expensive for the customer and the taxi driver has to pay a fee to the staff ordering from the reception.

An excellent place to spend the day chilling at the beach!
Spent the day there wondering up and down the beach and swimming in both the ocean and the chilly fresh water stream that runs parrallel to the beach about 30 meter from the hide tide line and then dumps out into the ocean at the far in end of the hotels beach area.
The waves are mild but a determined surfer/body boarder could still have a little fun.
If you go with a large group or are very social with starngers take a futball (soccer ball) with you for some fun at low tide.
The complimentary breakfast was pretty weak consisting of basic bread and fruit but the resturant offers excellent food and coffee.
As for the rooms TIA, small, decently clean, bare essentials and a small tv(but who needs a tv when you go to the beach. If you require large towels or more hygiene products than a single bar of soap bring your own.

I spent a week in this hotel on a conference for an international charity, and with participants from across Europe and Africa. The rate was within the range of the charity and the service acceptable, but some distance from excellent. The beach is pleasant with black sand, a result of the volcanic soil. The location some 25 minutes by car from the centre of Limbé is a disadvantage.

There are + and - for this hotel 25 minutes taxi ride from Limbe (pay not more than cfa 2000 for two!)
++ the beach
++ the sweet water pool is excellent with water direct from Mt Cameroon!
+ restaurant is OK little bit pricy
-/+ location bungalows and hotel. Some bungalows are situated nearby mineralwater factory Semme with continue noise!!
Hotelbuilding is without atmosphere. Take only bungalows far enough away from that factory
-/+ bungalows are a little bit "rundown"
-- airco is very noisy. Use earplugs!
++ douche is very good they say it is mineral water ?!

Reviewed 17 September 2008

Crumbling walls greeted us as we pulled into the Seme New after a long ride from Bamenda. The lobby was sparkling clean and the desk staff polite, well dressed and conversant in English and French. Our room, at 25000 CFR (about $60 per night) was touted as being "near the beach". There was no beach view, but nothing at this hotel is far from the surf, we could hear it and smell it, and the walk was short.

The room itself was small, but clean, and the TV, hot shower and air conditioner all worked. My double bed was firm, while my daughter's single was a bit soft. Room service did not clean between our first and second night.

The continental breakfast was sufficient (bagette, croissant, fruit, good coffee) and came with the room price. Meals at the restaraunt were a bit pricey given the african setting. Flavors were good, service prompt, although the choices of fresh vegetables we longed for after a month in Cameroon were not easily obtained.

The beach is the draw here. Warm with enough surf for boogie boarding, we were not disappointed. The gazebos a few feet from the sand served as havens during the brief, at least daily, rain showers. Tennis courts, kayaks, a fresh water (cold) stream for swimming, and many flowers, birds and reptiles to observe rounded out the local attractions.

Limbe is a 2500 CFR cab ride away, and we did not make the trip, but would have found more food options at a better price had we had the time.
