We stayed in Dundee for a couple of days to go to see some of the battle sites. We booked Antony as our guide and it was without doubt the best day of the holiday! They sent us pre- visit reading material on Zulu war and Antony spent over an hour setting the scene the night before in his sitting room with a glass of wine. Wonderful. The cottage in the garden was well equipped, the garden lovely, breakfast was a lot of fun and delicious. Antony and tish put a lot of effort into making guests feel welcome. The guided full day was incredible. We learned so much and in the most skilled, interesting and enjoyable way. I am not really interested in battles but Antony made the sites come alive with his wonderful narrative. Sitting under a tree listening with that backdrop - wow. Tish provided a lovely picnic lunch and the day was very memorable. The highlight of our 18 day tour.

Beautiful secluded quiet place on the edge of Dundee, very good apartments in a wonderful garden, excellent host who booked our evening meal for us at the Royal County Hotel. Good for Battleground tours (host a guide). Excellent Talana museum in Dundee.

We were olny able to stay one night at Clivia Place but hopefully when I return for a more detailed visit to see the battlefields this is where I will aim to stay. We arrived in a heavy rainstorm and were made most welcome and shown to our rooms which are set apart from the main house. The accommodation comprises of a room with twin bed and a room with a double bed both, with en-suite. There is a sitting room and kitchen (for self-catering) and outside a remarkable garden. The owners are Tish and Tony Coleman and Tony is a comes highly recommended as a historian and battlefield tour guide. The breakfast was excellent and was a good start for a continued tour.

Stayed for 2 nights on our way to Kruger National Park. Wonderful chalet in spectacular garden setting. Tish cooks marvellous breakfasts and dinners and Anthony gives inspiring battlefield tours. Enjoyed every minute and would have liked to stay longer. Fascinating area for the history of Kwa-zulu natal and worth lingering in if you have the time.

In our six weeks' stay in South Africa, our stay at Clivia Place was one of our better experiences. The room and facilities were excellent and Tish and Anthony Coleman made us very welcome. We employed Anthony Coleman as a guide for a trip to the Battlefields and had a terrific and very enjoyable and informative day.

We had the pleasure of spending 2 nights at Clivia Place, whilst touring with owner (a Battlefield guide, called Anthony Coleman).

Tish, the wife of the battlefield guide runs the guest cottage and also offers dinner and breakfasts as well as preparing packed lunches if you need them, whilst Anthony is busy conducting battlefield tours of the nearby Anglo-Zulu- Boer battlesites.

In fact it was actually having booked Anthony as our battelfield guide (we can highly recommend him as a battlefield guide), that we discovered we could stay on site in their private, standalone guest cottage.

The cottage has 2 ensuite bedrooms (one double and 1 twin), as well as an open plan sitting area / kitchen, but best of all is the lovely terrace outside the cottage overlooking their beautifully kept garden. It's not high end luxury, but the cottage is immaculately clean and the beds are comfortable; and because the cottage is situated in their spacious back garden, you feel totally relaxed and secure in this lovely residential part of Dundee. There is also a privacy fence between their home and the front of the cottage, if it is a bit of privacy that you crave.

Breakfasts and dinners (optional) which were plentiful and well presented were taken in a dining room within the owners accomodation. Tish is a wonderful cook and the dinners, which were very reasonably priced included avocado with prawn starters, fillet of beef etc. We're not talking lace tablecloths and candles here, but we are talking a charming conservatory room overlooking the garden, very good food and delightful hosts who openly share a glass of wine or two or three with you.

We found the cost of staying here very reasonable (if not very cheap compared to UK standard and costs!) and would not hesitate in recommending Clivia Place as a lovely haven whilst visiting or touring the Kwa-Zulu Natal countryside.
