After my one night stay at HB hotel in Vienna, I got a brochure with a pictures of their new resort in Sri Lanka. Once back home, I kept looking at the amazing ocean scenarios and was more and more convinced that was my next destination.

Now I am here :)

Everything exceeds the strongest expectations.
This is a senses place. The most amazing view - ocean seen from high, with green coconut trees, flowers, little birdies; you hear the music of the wild ocean, coming and going; the wind and moving leaves of vegetation around; mix of authentic incests and flowers.

The day welcomes you with a yoga session, done on the beach, greeting the day looking at the rising sun. This, in combination with he evening meditation makes you come closer to yourself and understand of real issues of your life. If you go to the spa here, you have the best massage ever.

Food - no words to describe this. This is a top quality, five stars plus treat. Every single day varied menu with healthy, home made ingredients and a beautiful serving.

The personnel is extremely friendly and helpful.

We also had a medical emergency and were treated by doctors, available at the resort.

There is much more - tennis, other sport activities and all variety of great excursions, organised by the resort.

Will love to come back...

We booked for 8 nights at UTMT fully expecting to do a number of day trips to stave off the potential boredom of being on a single small resort.
I couldn't have been more wrong. We left the grounds for a grand total of 2 hours in 9 days! A warm welcome, daily six course breakfasts, four course dinners, afternoon teas, cocktails, homemade lemonades in a variety of flavours (rosemary, passion, or rhubarb) daytime swims and twilight tennis meant we lapped up the sunshine and fantastic good cheer of our very welcoming hosts and their managers.
We arrived whilst the hotel was newly opened, which in the past for us in Asia has meant potential alarm bells warning of construction noise and poor service. Not so here, we were treated very warmly by the staff who were being trained by Yvona and Michael who had been brought in especially from Vienna. The lovely owners Robert and Petra were with their young family and the atmosphere was friendly and elegant yet relaxed.
Being able to shower in the open air and plunge into our private pool after a game of tennis was a ridiculously pleasant luxury.
We genuinely had a fantastic time and would thoroughly recommend this for couples or even a group of friends.
We'd like to say thank you to the whole team and look forward to returning in the future!

The first thing you recognize when you enter the place is the friendliness of the staff and the love they have put in every detail. Our apartment had a big living room area with a dining table and even a small kitchen (which we never used). Both the bedroom and bathroom where spacious and created with love to the details. The bathtub and basin are handmade and the shower was open-air :) The area itself looks like paradise and should be named "under the coconut tree" as there are many of them. The pool area is a mix of privacy and get-together. It's located directly beside the dining area which allows continuous access to cocktails and snacks. The entire place is on a small hill and you have an amazing view over the ocean. The beach is about 100 meter walk from the pool area. The water is warm and there are nice waves for boogie-boarding, too! Food is a category by itself: breakfast is served as long as you want and we found a great variety of local fruits, cereals, egg-dishes, and cakes. Dinner has always four courses and was fabulous. The Spa is great and offers great Ayurveda treatments (we spent three days there!). We did two trips, one for whale watching (and saw 20+ blue whales!) and one to Yala National Park (saw elephants, monkeys, crocodiles,…). All in all we had a wonderful vacation and we are already planning our next stay!

We have only just returned from underneath the mango tree two days ago ,and I am already longing to return , it has to be the most serene , beautiful and truly memorable place I have ever stayed , and I have stayed in the best hotels from the south of France to Thailand and round again ! you cannot help but smile all day as this is how it makes you feel ,
All the staff are just lovely and they REALLY cannot do enough for you , if you are happy so are they !
As for the food , not in any other hotel have I bothered for breakfast but I made it every morning and eagerly ,It shows !!!!!
We stayed in a room with private pool , which was full of colour and all you could need , this is not your run of the mill 5 star hotel in all beige and grey , it is a beautiful place , that you just won't want to leave , I didn't ,
If you are planning a trip to Sri Lanka , put UTMT firmly on your list as a must do ,
Thank you all for a memorable stay and that is not forgetting Thelma and Louise .

We stayed at this wonderful hotel during mid February. The only negative point being that we didn't book for long enough! The attention to detail is superb, not only in design but also the attentiveness of all the staff. The food is excellent and the overall ambience made it feel like it belonged to those staying there.

A truly wonderful experience for my whole family. (2 boys aged 10 and 8 and a 1 year old daughter.

I have travelled around the world for many years with my work and stay in 5 star hotels, I rank this hotel up with the best that I have experienced.

Thank you for making our trip to Sri Lanka so memorable.

Have you been to UTMT yet ? Look let´s go ... we went there because we love the Hollmanns Beletage in Vienna. When we arrived there was a warm welcome on the airport ( cold water, cold towels) and a gentle driver. The tropical atmosphere and the landscape from Dikwella blow us away it was hot probably 28 degrees. From the first minute on you could see the inspiration from
Petra and Robert Hollmann. This hotel is just perfect, if have never seen such a peaceful place in my life. The crystal clear water the fabulous food and the good taste of Petra and Robert impressed us. The UTMT opened my brain. It is religious, the atmosphere is incredible.
It is not only a HOTEL again it is a family thing.... come and feel at home ....
Applauds for your team
Applauds for your kitchen
Applauds for your rooms
Applauds for your service
Applauds for Lukas and his surf .. service ..and teaching
in the end i will say I´m a kid of the 70this ... we are family and love is in the air !!!!!

After an excellent stay at the sister-hotel Hollmann Beletage in Vienna, we knew we had to visit UTMT on our trip to Sri Lanka.

The place is wonderfully designed, the food was stunning, and served in a beautifully designed space with magnificent ocean views for lazy breakfasts, and candlelight dinners by the pool. The staff were very friendly, and Robert made a point of talking to us every day to ensure we were happy. There were lots of nice little touches.

Our visit was not without a few minor issues. Our driver from the airport went a little hair-raisingly fast through the local roads (it should be safer and smoother once the expressway is extended from Galle to Matara. Our trip took 3 hours starting at 2am). The driver arranged for our onward journey however was excellent.

The rooms, whilst beautifully designed, are not mosquito-proof so be sure to carefully seal the mosquito net around the bed!

The ocean beach is fairly rough with strong currents, but affords a magnificent sunset view and the pools are lovely to swim in.

The neighbouring property often seemed to be burning rubbish (not uncommon in Sri Lanka) which was sometimes unpleasant depending on the wind direction.

But overall it was a wonderful stay. We wished we had spent more time there. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Rooms with a private pool are well worthwhile.
