We had lunch at this restaurant yesterday & it was very poor, our waiter was surly and the fish we ordered (possibly tuna, difficult to tell) did not taste good, I left much of it although the salad & chips were nice. There are much better places to eat on the beach, I won't be returning. Guess I should have checked on tripadvisor first as others seem to have the same opinion. Oh, unlike most other places, they add a service charge to your bill, guess they know they won't get many tips.

We had a quite acceptable toasted sandwich for lunch here one day, and as we had to leave Unanwatuna early the next day, we enquired what time the restaurant opened for breakfast. We were assured that breakfast was served from 7.30am.

The following morning, we were the first people in the restaurant, but the guy with the keys to the kitchen didn't even turn up until 7.40am. Other people who had arrived after us had their order taken first (it depended which waiter was serving your table). We were eventually given the menu at 7.55am and had to then call our waiter back to order immediately. We didn't have time for much more than a coffee before our long journey.

The Peacock is OK if you want a toastie and a beer on the beach, but the service is pretty poor, and the food didn't look good enough to tempt us back for dinner.

we went for luch only once and were not entirely happy with food quality. Comparing to other restaurant on the beach food is rather poor. Beer was cold and staff friendly, but they really need to put more effort in food quality. There are much better places in Unawatuna and for the same money you can eat very nice meal.

Well it's safe to say the smiley man at the BBQ won us over... Then we sad down and ordered 'BBQ'd' meals off the menu, none of which was done on a BBQ. Deep fat friend, dry, hard, chewy tuna pieces that were supposedly supposed to have been fresh and cooked on a skewer. Tasted and felt like eating a leather boot found at the bottom of the sea. Stay well away! Staff unfriendly and unhelpful... I'm not normally a complainer but this takes the biscuit!!

If you walk a little on the beach you will be probably meet a tiny little man wearing a chef's hat who will invites you to his bbq feast! The difference with all the others "tormentors" you will for sure meet on the beach is that he is very very friendly and nice and will not try to force you to sit at his restaurant.

The other peculiar thing is that around 6:30 p.m. he will have a long table FULL of seafood (Lobsters, crabs, jumbo prawns and many different fishes) where you can choose whatever you like.

We had a jumbo prawn the size of a big lobster and a grilled fish. All that comes with fries, salad or rice. It's not that cheap compared to other places (we spent about 2.000 rupies) but chef's special spicy sauce makes the difference!
