Spent 3 nights in this nice hotel early august. Only a short walk or tuktuk drive to the unawatuna beach, but some afternoons you just stay in the beautiful garden in the hotel around the swimming pool or for a nice massage in the in house spa. Food very nice. Breakfast fantastic, lots of choice at the buffet. Rooms very comfortable with hot water, AC, clean bathrooms. Staff very nice. Atmosphere great. Definately recommend this place!

This is the most expensive place we booked for our trip, but we did so on the recommendation of a Sri Lankan friend and we were not disappointed! The staff were lovely and welcoming. Food was outstanding, especially the enormous breakfast buffet (included). The gardens of the house are gorgeous, the swimming pools are blissful and the rooms were pretty luxurious. We even found flowers on our pillows each morning! The very epitome of paradise.

We were lucky to see the festival on Unawatuna beach, but more than that, we enjoyed the hike to Jungle Beach, signposted from the hotel. It's a steep walk, but well worth it for the view at the top and the final prize of the secluded Jungle Beach. We had a lovely trip to Galle, where we walked the city walls and I enjoyed a very relaxing massage at the Aryuveda centre at Nooit Gedacht. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and recommend it to any friends travelling to Lanka. It's just the best!

This is a former Dutch Colonial house, built in 1725. We stayed in the old part of the hotel, which was nice but needed a bit of work doing. The bedrooms themselves were fine - clean, big, air con, and a fan. The bathrooms were a bit run down - rusty shower head and holes in the nets in the windows which meant a fair amount of bugs and mosquitos. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was nice. It is a 10 minute walk to the beach. Perhaps it would be worth paying a bit more to stay in the newer part of the building, it depends if you want character or modern facilities.

this is our first visit to nooit gedacht hotel. This is probably the most interesting hotel in the area. room are very clean.very quiet place.garden is also very calm.It has a nice natural lotus pond.It has very large and nice pool. breakfast is very good. It has a traditional menu.we enjoyed food well.but sad to say, restaurant service is very poor.they cant manage things in English.they are not active, no friendly.even they didn't smile with us.so management should have improve them. they cant understand what we say. food service is very delay ,we wait in restaurant long times.if you think to have good restaurant service at this place, please think twice.you can find nice restaurant and good service in beach.all other things are very good in this hotel without restaurant service.

Room Tip: rooms are good in new side

This is our second visit to Nooit Gedacht and we stayed seven nights as part of a tour of SL. This is probably the most interesting hotel in the area. It has the original Dutch period house where the reception and restaurant are situated and a contrasting new extension next to the pool. The pool is the largest in Unawatuna and is set at the rear of the grounds near the small lotus flower lake. There are a choice of rooms we opted for one of the new ones with a balcony which has a view of the forested mountain. This is a very good location for monkey spotting and the wonderful bird life. We found the staff very helpful, the reception staff in particular, but we did eat out most nights in Unawatuna. I had the feeling that in the low season, July, this was the busiest hotel in Unawatuna and it is easy to see why. The grounds are larger than they look and there are quiet areas to be found if you look for the west garden. It is located 10 - 15 minutes away from Galle which is the most beautiful city in SL and 5 mins from the expressway making the airport reachable in two hours. We visit SL every year and we will probably visit here again if not in January then certainly in July.

Room Tip: The upstairs room in the newer section are very good. They have a private balcony and shade and a go...

IT was a wonderful experience staying here. It was looking a bit sad in the start but the place gives you a lot of positives vibes. the staff is amazing.. very friendly and out there to help you. the place is very close to Galle and you can commute through the bus and it is very cheap! Worth the stay.. good place to relax and enjoy a quiet vacation..

Room Tip: choose the superioir one which is facing the mountains and the swimming pool

When i was booking this hotel online i didn't know it was a 200 year old former Dutch governor's house! it was definitely a nice surprise as we went into the lobby and admire the house, for a moment i thought we came to the wrong hotel! For the price we pay ( we were travelling in a group and was on a budget), the rooms was clean and spacious, and the pool at the new wing was certainly a nice place to relax. The breakfast buffet spread was scrumptious too. We had a great stay and definitely recommend this place.

It is a family owned hotel, the staffs are really friendly, and they have a spa too! If you're lucky you might even spot some fireflies near the bushes.
