“Disappointed and not freshly cooked”
Reviewed 1 March 2014

We visited this restaurant one evening in January 2014 after reading the great reviews on TripAdvisor. We didn't mind the setting as we had already read that it would be in an unfinished property. When we got there we were shown to a table and given the menu quite grufflyThere didn't seem to be the friendly family style atmosphere others had talked of. Our order was taken and delivered to our table in 5 minutes. Hmmm. I said that was quick and the guy just said we were lucky. Food was ok, nothing special, and had been taken out of the fridge and warmed up. Perhaps the owner and cook was away but we certainly didn't feel like this was a good experience at all. Not at all happy spice

“Excellent and exciting!”
Reviewed 19 February 2014

Our family had an exciting and nice afternoon trying to learn how to cook in Sri Lanka. The food was very good and chintha was a very good teacher. The family was very nice, so all in all an excellent experience, which we can only recommend.

“Great spices, tea”
Reviewed 11 February 2014

We ate both lunch and breakfast here, and enjoyed it very much. Yes, you are going to have to wait a while for your food. This is fairly common at smaller restaurants in Sri Lanka, and we've waited just as long for lesser food. We ordered the cheese roti and the vegetable curry combo. The curry isn't the more typical, soupy curry many are used to. I found I enjoyed the difference. But like a lot of curry meals in Sri Lanka, you don't quite get the "eureka" moment of enjoyment until you put it together with the coconut sambal, the rice, the spice, etc...
They were happy to sell us some of the spices they used after we requested them, and later e-mailed us some recipes. The tea was some of the best I've ever had, so we bought a bag of that as well. The prices are very reasonable for travelers.

“happy spice”
Reviewed 5 February 2014

the food here is good and the people working very nice. the rice & curry we had was a little bit "boring" but nothing bad. the devilled dishes are fantastic though. be prepared to wait a long time (45min-1hour) for your food.

“cooking class”
Reviewed 3 February 2014

This was a great way to learn how to cook traditional sri lanken food. The lady who runs the classes was a very good teacher and her family were lovely too. The food that we made was excellent and we got to eat as much of it as we could before we left. We went back the next day for dinner because it was so delicious. Would definately recommend this place for either eating out or attending the cookery class.
