This is a guesthouse with style! The owners have thought of everything. The design of the building with the open planning and the garden is paradise! The rooms here are lovely and spacious with very large shower rooms. The beds are very comfortable.
Although you are only a very short 5 min walk from the beach, this place is well hidden and very peaceful. The service here is outstanding. Tea/coffee are offered when you come back from the beach-and if the owner is not around there is access to facilities to make drinks. Also a fridge to store snacks/beer/wine.
The breakfasts here are also excellent and it is great to be entertained by the monkeys / tropical birds that visit the garden.
The owner has very well behaved/looked after dogs.

Room Tip: The very best rooms are the ones overlooking the main garden. However the is very easy access to the...

My girlfriend and I arrived in Unawatuna in December 2012, having no reservations. We were quickly directed to Hibiscus Villas and what a pleasant surprise it was. Brilliant! Really friendly host with three very enthusiastic canine companions. Lovely rooms with en-suite and four poster beds, and a great communal kitchen and living area (kitchen only for storage, not cooking). Hibiscus has a really lovely garden and terrace and is only a minute away from Unawatuna beach. Absolutely recommend this place!!!

We were lucky enough and have just spent 10 wonderful days and nights at Villa Hibiscus in Unawatuna, Sri Lanka. This place is a little secret for people who love to stay in spacious, state of the art but traditional rooms with direct access to a paradise garden. Ajith, he's a great host and he really takes care about his guests in all matters and aspect to make it a unforgetable vacation experience. The beach is less than a 1-minute walk away, easy access to stores and groceries. Very clean, modern and stylish place. We will be back in December or January. What a dream place! Thanks again Ajith. Alex

Room Tip: You can choose between spacious rooms at Villa Hibiscus or the Cottage about 1 minute away. All room...

Location - Only short stroll to the beach & it was good to be away from the beach parties, particularly on a Saturday night
Service - Ajith was a fabulous host, very friends and always willing to help.
Food - Sri Lankan breakfast & dinner were outstanding, some of the best curries in Sri Lanka.
Villa - New & tastefully renovated. Great garden location and able to share breakfast with the monkeys & cute dogs
Would definitely go back next time in Unawatuna!!

Location: Fantastic. At the eastern end of Unawatuna beach. Literally 2 minutes walk across the road to the beach. 5 minute tuk-tuk or 10 min walk along the beach to the restaurants/shops on Yadehimulla Road. 10 minutes in a tuk-tuk to Galle. Set back from the road with a lovely garden and plenty of wildlife. Very relaxing.

Rooms: Spotless, spacious, beautifully decorated. 4 poster bed with a big mozzie net. Walk in shower, doors our onto the patio in the garden. Bear in mind the bathroom is effectively part of the bedroom so not much privacy! No air con, just a fan, so it gets pretty hot in there in the evening. Open the windows to cool it down a bit! Took us a while to get used to sleeping in the heat. Air con would be a real advantage and Ajith mentioned they were looking at putting in a couple of rooms to try it out.

Service: With a smile! Ajith was a friendly but unintrusive host; he left us in peace when we were relaxing and helped when we needed, notably sorting us a good-value taxi back to Negombo which was a great help. All the other staff were also great.

Food: You can order dinner for the evening if you order early enough in the day. We didn't have it here as there are plenty of restaurants to go to in the area, but some other guests recommended it. Breakfast was simple but delicious - fresh fruits and juice, tea or coffee, eggs however you wanted them and toast and jams.

Overall: Brilliant, beautiful place to stay and we'd certainly go back, however I would certainly go for a room with air con if and when they install it!

We stayed two nights at Hibiscus Villas and had a great time. The house is superb, beatifully appointed and in a great location, set back from the beach and in lush gardens. So peaceful and tranquil. Ajith is a lovely host - really helped us with all the requests for the family - always helpful as are all the staff and the breakfasts are superb. Great atmosphere, made all the better by the dogs (Ella, Lucky, Tekla, Naomi and Poppy!) and a vast array of wildlife in the gardens from squirrels, to tortoises and monkeys. The garden itself is gorgeous and the beach is just a just through the gate. Would definitely stay again and recommnend to all.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are set on the terrace and have great views

Despite a quite unwelcoming host, this is a good guesthouse.

Gorgeous building with fabulous gardens set about 50 m from the beach. Nice and quiet.

Room was quite small and dark, but in good condition. AC was 'broken' which lead to a very uncomfortable night - almost unbearably hot, with an insufficient fan.

Breakfast was ok, though it took an age to arrive (and we have had much better elsewhere).

We tried to order dinner (at 2 pm), but were advises that because we had not provided 12 hours notice, this would probably not be possible! Hardly the most welcoming experience.

All in all, a good option for Unawatuna (which I thought was a bit of a dump compared to the other Southern beaches), but with some shortcomings.
