Me and my girlfriend had a three day stay in Dunes Unawatuna hotel in last May and it was a very pleasant experience. The host was very nice and so as the hotel. The hotel is situated in a very peaceful area close to the Unawatuna beach and it has a unique style. Food was made to order and was excellent. Highly recommended and hoping to stay again soon.

'Dunes' stand-out as a unique, tranquil space in the heart of the Unawatuna resort. You hardly realize that you are only a step away from the bustling, colorful streets and the inviting blue waters of the bay...and this is the unique appeal of this space. Its an oasis tucked away in the beach resort of Unawatuna. The owner Gayan and his partner Jenny ensure that your stay is comfortable and homely. Their hospitality is warm and sincere and you feel as if you are visiting with old time friends. Tastefully decorated cosy rooms overlooking a beautiful pond and garden coupled with friendly staff and delicious meals - completed our memorable stay.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think about our recent stay at Dunes is the food! Everything we ate at the Dunes was really really good. We loved the prawn curry with Sri Lankan yellow rice and the grilled fish that Gayan specially arranged for us. Our 1.5 year old daughter love her chicken and mushroom soup and ate it every day that we were there. Food aside, Dunes is a nice place to stay. We opted for the cottage, which was neat, clean and functional. The mattress were oh-so-comfortable and the bathroom was well designed in an open air rooftop setting which we loved. The whole place is designed in an Eco friendly manner and you would get the feel of it as soon as you settle in. Dunes is just a stones throw away from the beach and all it takes is a quick walk to the nearest beach shack. Gayan, the owner of the place is always around to help you with information or anything you may need. The courtyard has a cozy setting with a few tables where you can access wifi, read from a bunch of books kept there, or simply hang out with company. If we were to go back to Unawantuna in Sri Lanka, there's no question where we would stay :-)

We booked a downstairs room with fan there and we were very pleased with room and service. You can spot wildlife in the garden while having tasty breakfast and you can reach the beach within 2 minutes. The only negative aspect were some blood stains from killed mosqitoes on the bed sheets.
They opened this hotel 6 months ago, so the furniture and bathroom is all new. We can recommend this hotel and would definitely go there again. Peace and love!

They provide excellent meal for anytime and it's unbelievably flexible. We had lunch and dinner from them on my last visit to Unawatuna and it added delicious memory to journey.
Place has isolated from the world so it would be nice to spend time and relax my self.

Thanks dunes staff for
brilliant hospitality.

Very clean and pleasant lovely stay. Comfortable hotel with good facilities, in convenient location (3 minutes walk to beach) Breakfast was very good with an outstanding selection including sting-hoppers and eggs. The rooms were quite large and comfortable. The hotel staff was very pleasant, helpful, and professional. I would highly recommend this hotel. It was a very enjoyable weekend.

We stayed here in the middle of June and only booked a couple of nights but stayed for 11! The rooms were really big and spacious, and as the hotel is only a few months old the beds have super fat and comfy mattresses. The bathrooms are really nice too and the showers are awesome. The owner Guiyan is really friendly and chatty, he gave us lots of ideas of what to do in Sri Lanka and helped organise a driver to take us to Yala National Park and back for a much cheaper rate than we could find ourselves. Dunes is in the middle of everything - close to the beach (less than 5 minutes), on the stretch with all the restaurants and there's a corner shop right next door which sells all the usual stuff. Would highly recommend to any friends visiting Unawatuna.
