The secret garden really is such a happy place. The staff are so friendly and helpful, the breakfasts (we only ate breakfast there) just delicious, the yoga a must! Our room was simple but all you need, the beds (and pillows) comfy. What more to say, can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Friday nights can be noisy with the disco down the road, music stopped around 12pm, worth staying ou...

Firstly, Sri Lanka is mostly a destination for adventure travelers. Of course there are some high-end options that are very pricey in Colombo, but outside of the city - the coastal areas, even the 'nicest' places are a little rough for those not accustomed to such travel.

The secret garden is one of the 'nicer' places in Unawatuna, an awesome beach town with some cool restaurants and bars and beautiful beaches.

While Secret Garden isn't right on the beach, it's literally just across the street. Upon arrival we were shown our bungalow and I was a little disappointed at its condition. Let's say it was very rustic. We upgraded and it was still 'rustic.' the floors are earthen tile which didn't give the feeling of pure cleanliness, but you have to get used to being a little dirty at all times in Sri Lanka; it's unavoidable. The bathroom was outside, literally an open air shower and toilet. It's pretty cool actually but if you expect a shiny clean bathroom, this isn't for you. The lizards and chipmunks are always watching you. :-)

The staff is friendly. Although, we were told not to get our beach towels sandy. Ha?? Wi-fi is not available in the rooms, only within sight of the kitchen where the router is. And for some reason, they turn it off and on constantly so you never know when you're going to lose your connection.

Its location is within walking distance of everything in town. A little pricey for what you get though. Linens weren't changed and trashes weren't emptied.

And a last annoyance. They surprised us on the last day that they don't accept credit cards... And there's no ATM except for in Galle (20 minutes away!!!). Are we not living in 2012?

Secret Garden is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever been. It felt like paradise! The rooms were very comfortable and we had AC in ours. Breakfast was INCREDIBLE!! The staff was great too. Also very close to the beautiful beaches of Unawatuna. This place was seriously perfect, and I highly, highly recommend it!

The secret garden is a charming place to stay , in the style of an old Ceylon rest house it is located in Unawatuna in close proximity to the beach and the town of Galle. The price is reasonable and the staff is excellent I would recommend it without reservation to anyone visiting Galle

The 3 generations of Van Dorts stayed at the Secret Garden and it was once of the best holidays we have ever had. Service hospitality, staff were excellent and with the beach so close by what more can you ask for. It is an oasis in the middle of the commercial Unawatene precinct

Highly recommend this place for a holiday you will not forget

The Secret Garden has so much to offer; they seem to create a personalized tropical oasis for each guest. The rooms themselves are very comfortable and the location unbeatable, but its the sense of accommodating peace and friendliness that really make this place stand out in my mind. I stayed 4 days with friends, and we each took away a different experience. I loved waking up to a lavish breakfast of fresh tropical fruits and tea and then hitting the beach fairly early, while some of my companions took the opportunity to lounge away the mornings in bed or relaxing in the gardens of the courtyard. Once we all took a yoga class together in the pavilion - very professional and soothing. I even sprung for an ayurvedic massage after. Calm and beauty just pervade this place; the appeal certainly does NOT stop at the pristine beaches and scenery just steps away. I plan to come back asap; it was an incredible experience I considered a fantastic value.

After a month travelling around the island without a guide book and sleeping in all kind of places, we listen to some really good advices and we decided to go a little bit over our budget and spend a couple of nights in Secret Garden... Best decision ever!!!

Everything was more than we expected, huge room, beautiful, clean and with an amazing private bathroom in the main building.

The staff was very helpful with everything we needed and they even gave us some tips about where to go because we didn't have much time to look around. Ask them to point you where to watch the most beautiful sunset!!!

So, if you fell that you have enough backpacking, take time to rest at this amazing hotel!
