Great place to stay!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Mar 2019via mobile
Rock fort was a great choice for a hotel in Unawatuna! The rooms were spacious, breakfast was delicious and very diverse and the staff was very helpful and accomodating. The view was beautiful, and I would highly recommend going for the (slightly more expensive) balcony room. You will not regret it. Great location- all good restaurants and beaches were within walking distance!

Me and my daughter spent a lovely week at Rock Fort Hotel.
The staff was really kind and helpful providing us with anything we needed.
Our room was clean and well equipped with a great view over the ocean. The food was both delicious and plentiful.
The hotel offers trips to different interesting destinations in Sri Lanka as well as the transport from the airport.

Room tip: Sea view rooms are the best :)

Stayed here for one night only thankfully.
Old, Dated & dirty.
As soon as we arrived they wanted payment for room, which is fine if you must but then after 3 failed attempts they couldn’t take payment on my card as machine had no signal.
Then after booking twin room as 2 mates travelling they guided us to the room with a double bed.
After kindly notifying them we actually need to single beds they eventually moved us after 15 mins of scrambling around.
Our room had exposed wires were a wall fan had previously been, top of wardrobe was absolutely disgusting with dust and dead flies & only had 1 door.
Bed mattress was on wood which was broken and the other bed had a dirty little sheet.
Then advised we couldn’t get a hand towel as we had 2 bath Towels which apparently should be enough.
Did I even mention there was no safe in our room as apparently this was one of the ones without and a front door which was so flimsy you could have blown it open.
Needless to say.. we spent the whole night out as didn’t want to come back in the room to do anything but sleep and check out the next day.
Travelled all around the world and stayed in a few hostels but this was by far the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in.

I cant get over the excellent quality of this hotel. Spacious rooms and bathrooms with a four poster bed. And 2 swimming pools.
And we got a fabulous room... verandah and then the sea. No beach, no obstruction.
Really more than a 3 star hotel.

We arrived there at 2:30 PM (check-in was at 2) but our room was not prepared! So we decided to go to swimming pool and it was the worst decision! We had to go through the “kitchen” and some storages and in the and there were very old stairs. The pool was dirty (also some plastic bags around) and no chance to order something. And official photos on TripAdvisor are fake! Also the “private beach” is really private ‘cause there are only 5 chairs and no entrance to sea - only rocks. We were not happy to be there so we checked the room and decided to leave this place. Unfortunately I forgot there my book (in czech), swimsuit and sunglasses because we left this place quickly. When I came back later, they told me that nothing was found there and the room was cleaned already so somebody just stole it... so unhappy to visit hotel like this when there is so many nice hotels.

This place is the worst hotel that we had in Sri Lanka so far. It is really old and dirty looking. To get to the pool you need to go through the kitchen or some place where the plates and chairs and stored, bizarre. The pool itself was not clean and all around were lying plastic bags, plastic bottles and some other stuff. To be honest the room was nice and even the toilette and shower were really nice and clean, but we had a view into a wall and our balcony was connected to some other room. To get to the room you have to go through a maze of other rooms. This place is really NOT as it is presented on the official pictures.
As for us, we have decided to leave this place without staying here, there is a plenty of nicer places in this area and there is no need to stay in a hotel like this.
