We checked into this guesthouse after having spent a week and a half in the more northern parts of the country. Our driver did mention that this particular hotel is not on the main drag - Temple Rd - however we decided to book anyways as it was recommended in Lonely Planet. We were greeted by friendly staff upon our arrival and while it was a 15 minute walk to the beach, the views from our room were spectacular. The room itself was very spacious with hot water and AC all for a very good price (4000 Rs per night including breakfast). We were asked if we would pay upfront for our two night stay which we did willingly as we were allowed to see the room prior to paying. On our second night we enjoyed a wonderful dinner of curry, rice and prawns and as we were the only ones dining on the seaside patio, we chatted with the cook, server and owner for about an hour. The owner advised us that just six months prior, Peacock was on its very own stretch of white sandy beach - he showed us pictures. The government built a breakwater which caused all of the sand to move to the other side of the bay leaving Peacock practically in the ocean. Many of the reviews on this site state that this guesthouse is a backpackers option however with the incredible views, amazing food and friendly staff, we would highly recommend Peacock to all budget-minded travellers looking for a quiet place to enjoy panoramic views of the Indian Ocean.
