Second trip to Sri Gemunu and just as welcoming. Nice peaceful place within easy reach of the hustle and bustle of Galle. Friendly welcome from extended family. Good quality food from evening buffet. Would recommend to anyone travelling down the west coast of Sri Lanka.

We stayed in Sri Gemunu hotel for a week. All rooms have view to the beach.

The rooms and facilities are in good condition, clean and very well maintained.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The owner has a jewelry shop in the hotel with very good prices and nice designs.

We were on HB basis and enjoyed excellent dinners in the restaurant.

In my opinion, the only downside of the hotel is that the beach in front of it is rocky and doesn't fit for swimming, a nice lagoon suitable for swimming is about 300 meters from the hotel.

We were interested in scuba diving and were referred to a great diving club about 3 min. driving from the hotel.

Sri Gemunu is an excellent choice for a quiet beach resort in the southern coast of Sri Lanka.

The weather was a little weird when we where in Sri, the sun popped out until noon and then clouds came in. Didnt matter since we would just have burned ourselves to death if the sun would have been up all day. The hotel was great, the staff really took care of everything, even embaressed us a little bit when they picked up our stuff and carried it to our room the first night. If you are into surfing, theres a weird point right outside the hotel which works really well with a fish or minimal. When it gets bigger it breaks a little different but still holds up. You can rent boards at the guesthouse that is nextdoor, Rathna. The owner of that place surfs and is a good sport, so he'll help you out. The food is actually really good, you might wanna take a few dinners somewhere else just to see something else, but you can definately eat there every night an enjoy it. And dont forget that theres free wifi...

We have been there for 6 days. I only can tell that this is to short. The personel and the management did all things to do to give the guest a very good feeling. We had HB and it was very good!!! We are looking forward to go there again.

Fourteen years and a tsunami had passed since our previous visit to the Sri Gemunu. We had always promised ourselves we would go back and, although it took longer than we expected, it was a superb return visit.
The hotel has evolved and grown slightly since we were first there but we were delighted to find it still has the same laidback personna, friendly family-run feeling and superb food.
Nothing was too much trouble for the owners and staff in the stunning beachside setting of the Sri Gemunu, a brilliant place to spend the Christmas holiday.
I would just like to take issue on a couple of issues raised by a previous poster who said that there are no shops nearby to purchase drinks, snacks and other items and also that it was essential to take transport to the inland swimming pool and spa.
Neither of these statements are correct. There is an excellent little grocery shop, run by a man with a big grey beard, about 100 yards down the road to Unawatuna - on the opposite side to the hotel - where fruit, veg, water and a big range of other items are on sale.
Also, the first time we went up to the pool we accepted the hotel offer of a free tuk-tuk ride, mainly to help us find it, but after that we chose to walk both ways each time. It is a delightul 10-15 minute walk, depending on how long you stop to chat to the friendly local people, watch monkeys swinging through the trees, observe a mongoose - as we did twice - or look at the various birds, including kingfishers. Not to mention the tuk-tuk bread delivery van. Walking, rather than shooting through in motorised transport, definitely added to our holiday and became something we enjoyed as much as the swimming.
Add the sensational beach setting overlooking the stick fishermen, the swimming in the sea "pool" sheltered from the waves by a reef and the amazing sunsets and the Sri Gemunu seemed even more idyllic once we arrived back in dreary, wet, freezing London. We certain ly won't wait another 14 years to go back.

A lot of nice things have already been said about Sri Gemunu and we can only confirm all of it. We escaped from a cold and grey Holland and stayed at Sri Gemunu in January 2011 for 7 days in one of the deluxe (airco) rooms. We felt at home right from the start and had a wonderful and enjoyable time thanks to:

- the friendly staff and management
- the truly nice setting of the hotel and garden at one step from the beach
- the healthy breakfasts in the morning and tasty meals at night with candle light
- the great views from the balcony
- the natural ocean pool nearby

It’s a family run hotel and the 4 brothers take care of the guests each in their own manner. We had nice conversations and discussions with Gamini one of the brothers who is also specialised in gem stones and the making of jewellery. It was very special to witness the whole process of the making of my silver ring with white sapphire by Ajith, a genuine craftsman and goldsmith. A wonderful souvenir of a great holiday in Sri Lanka. We certainly hope to return!
