“Good place to spend a night or two”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 March 2012

As I'm sure you've read, this place has great breakfast, and it does. It's clean and cozy with a very intimate atmosphere. Free coffee all day, WiFi and hot showers. However we weren't really crazy about this place. The dorm rooms are mattresses on the floor, which are comfortable but the room has a slanting roof so if you're over 5'4'' you are constantly having to bend your neck, which is really annoying. It gets really cold at night so make sure you ask for an extra blanket.

The sisters work extremely hard at keeping the place clean, and that it is! If you want to book anything they are really helpful. Something else one might consider helpful are the 100 signs posted everywhere in the hostel with directions/rules for guests.

They offer laundry service but we would recommend taking it somewhere else. It was overpriced and our clothes came back in a wrinkled ball and still damp. For the region this is sub-par considering everywhere else we have taken our laundry has come back folded and perfect for half the price.

Make sure you label EVERY item of food you buy, or they will take it and lock it away for themselves. Instead of leaving out left-over oils and seasonings that guests leave, they take them also, so you have to buy all your own stuff.

Would probably only stay here again for the breakfast and free coffee.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with actual beds...not just mattresses on the floor.

me and 2 friends were looking for a nice place to stay for a nite on the cheap. we ended up staying for two nites cuz we loved the town so much and Gaby was MOST HELPFUL, friendly and accommodating. she set us up with a couple of different tours that were wonderful and for a great price. was a safe place, very clean, showers were good, the beds OK, breakfast is nice (made with love by gaby!), and we LOVED eating at Gaby's mom's "soda" restaurant just further up the street, too ("amistad"). this was a really cute place for a great price! Gaby is so sweet and we enjoyed getting to know her and the community she is part of. i highly recommend it if you are something of a "backpacker" and want a nice clean cheap place.

small hostel but we liked it. the rooms were colorful and clean. the breakfast was good and the coffee was some of the best we had during our entire trip. Yorle was very helpful (y muy bonita). her mamas restaurant down the street was good and cheaper than most places in town

Really cute little hostel with a very nice and helpful owner! If you sleep in the dorm you will sleep on matraces, in the double rooms on beds. Breakfast (pancakes with fruits or toast and eggs) is included. I really enjoyed the familiar atmosphere and the sloth you can see making its way on the electric line with a bit of luck =)

Monteverde was our first stop in Costa Rica. Yorlenny and Gaby were excellent hosts. So excellent that we had trouble finding a place anywhere else in Costa Rica that was as awesome for anywhere near the same price. The hostel was simple but, clean and comfortable. Yorlenny lives there and cooks breakfast each morning. The two sisters were very helpful with directions, booking tours, and my horrible spanish. I cannot say enough good things about this place. :)

All what you need you will find there. We had an excellent service for a small or low price. Very friendly and helpful owners. The rooms are very small but very clean. If you don't look for a luxury hotel...this is the right place to explore the beautiful landscape of Monteverde.

The sisters who run this place really do their best to make you feel at home. The long list of houserules are all reasonable and I was just amazed by what kind of stupid people there must be able to travel at all.

The breakfast is delicious and you can even set the time you want. Rooms and shared bathrooms are all clean and the tours are easily arranged, even the ones that are not in their regular offers, you can just ask them to make the reservation and they will at the same price you get anywhere else.

I had a bit of trouble with the hard beds. The matrasses are thin and I am not overweight but slim, so you might reconsider sleeping here if you are keen on a good matrass. Coming from Gringo Pete´s in La Fortuna, the price was a bit of a shock: double for equal facilities. Nevertheless I stayed here with pleasure.

Room Tip: Try to get a room off the roadside, as the view is nice (sunrise in your room is great)
