This was the best place we stayed. The rooms are very clean and nice. The garden was wonderful. There was heaps to do nearby. The breakfast in the morning was great they made homemade jams from fruits hanging on trees on the property!
The stuffs are so helpful when it came to planning activities. We booked all tours through Arco Iris Lodge and the best tour was the guided hike in the Curicancha reserve: The guide was worth every penny.

We just stayed there last week. We had two standard rooms they were very nice and clean. The breakfast was awesome!!!
It was also nice to be so close to the center of Monteverde and nevertheless there is very quietly. The garden is beautiful and well kempt, the view is amazing.
The staff's were very obliging. Everytime we needed something they helped us a lot also they made reservations for different activities for us.
We really recommend to everybody this lodge, price and service are perfect.

I felt compelled to write another review about Arco Iris, having read the review entitled 'Bugs' It may have escaped the reviewers attention but Monteverde in located in a cloud forest which is home to so many insects that less than 10% have been catalogued. As far as the Pygones are concerned they exist in every hotel in the area, incuding the 5 star El Establo, so you can't blame it on the room. The bottom line is that this is one negative review out of hundreds you can read online, which combined has placed Arco Iris at the top of the ratings and a certificate of excellence from Trip Advisor. It still amazes me that people visit Monteverde to see nature close up and then complain that there are insects living here - for people like this I would suggest you stay at home and watch Animal Planet on television.

We stayed at Arco Iris for two nights in the budget room, which was 37 dollars per night including the discount for paying in cash. When we arrived, the hotel looked really nice with a beautiful garden where you can relax. For the price we paid at this kind of hotel, we didn't expect to get the best room they had, but we did expect a certain amount of quality.

The staff was really friendly and helpful, which was nice. Also the room looked simple and clean and the shower was good. There was a note saying that pygones might come under your door but that they were harmless and there was a towel to put there so they woudn't come in that much. The note also said that the hotel sprayed the area with bugspray to prevent this from happening. We didn't think too much about it, until our second night. We woke up during the night to find at least 200 of these bugs in the room. It wasn't even possible to get out of bed without crushing them under your feet. Maybe it was worse in our cabin because we were at the bottom of a hill (cabin #9) and they came with the rain, but it was a horrible way of waking up.

Also, the dogs looked like they were covered with fleas, because they were scratching and biting themselves really bad. They stayed out of our way but I don't know if they can maybe come into the reception area at night and get on the couches there, because my boyfriend later found some bites that looked like flea bites. Again, I'm not sure if the bites were from fleas spread by the dogs but we didn't really feel comfortable with them walking around near us anymore.

The next morning we left really early to catch the bus, and when I wanted to take a shower it was really cold. I don't mind a cold shower, but this water felt like it came straight from the north pole. If you pay 37 dollars for a room in Costa Rica, you at least expect a warm shower right?

Because of us leaving so early, we were unfortunately unable to inform staff about all these occurances. I hope that if they read this, they will try to do more about the bug problem (for example spray more? I didn't see them do it once actually). Also I hope that they will help the dogs with their fleas (if they are not doing that already), since it is pretty sad for them and not very comfortable for guests.

I would't necessarily not recommend this hotel, since the outdoor area was really nice, but I wouldn't recommend staying in room #9. If you pay for a nicer room, you'll probably have a good experience, but I think that if you pay that amount of money there are also great hotels around where you also get breakfast included.

We have rented the Vacation Rental House which is located a few miles from the town center. The place is very luxurious and ideal for families. Our two daughther (2 and 5) remember the chickens and the toy chest... I remember the rooster at 5h30AM... This added to the charm of the place. The managers were extremely friendly. This is a very relaxing place. Highly recommended.

We spent 5 nights @ Arco Iris and the experience was wonderful. Since we were a group of 4 adults, we stayed in "La Casa". It was immaculate! 2 nice sz. bedrooms with comfortable beds, the main living area has a good sz. kitchen. The large front porch is a great place to sit and watch the horses & wildlife while enjoying a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. The bathroom was modern, clean and bright. Large windows provided the opportunity to open the cabina and let the breezes circulate. Wonderful!
Breakfast ($7) was plentiful, offering fresh fruit & jellies, granola, yogurt, eggs any style, freshly made breads, juices and coffee. There is a good sz. greenhouse garden on site providing much of the fare.
This facility is located just off the main street of Monteverde and is a short walk to restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, tour companies..... The paths leading to the cabinas are paved and steep. Guests surely get their exercise. Excluding the motel type rooms directly behind the buildings on the main street, this location is fairly quiet. There's a bit of traffic noise during the day, but peace & quiet @ night.

Room Tip: Cabinas and La Casa are the quietest.

we are ecolodge people. My family with teenagers stayed here in the house on the property and it was our favorite. Great location, quiet, service was perfect and the food in the morning was all homemade, even the jams. A more temperate environment after the jungle and ooast. All great. Glad we stayed and we will be back!
