My friend and I arrived late, and since the hostel we had planned to stay in was full, we ended up spending one night at Savegre Inn.
The owner and the staff were very eager to help arrange trips (of course they get commission), and for my taste; maybe a bit too eager. The owner kept asking what we wanted to do, and since it was late, we had travelled the whole day and did not really know what we wanted, this was just too much and too pushy.
Plus: Our room was very cheap, we paid 8 dollars for a room with a bunkbed and a double-bed and private bathroom, including breakfast.
Minus: Also our roomed smelled really rotten and raw (since it was in the cellar).
The breakfast was just a funny story: we got two pieces of white bread, and 10 pieces of fruit, and coffee or tea.
It felt like we were on "Biggest Looser" or on a health-camp. But the funny part was that the owner came up and said; "You can take four more pieces of fruit if you want!" Really nice, but just the whole "only so and so many pieces" was kind of funny and a little bit ridiculous. But, you get what you pay for!
We also had a unpleasant experience because we wanted to leave after one night. The owner kept asking why, and if we didn't like it. We said it was ok, but that we wanted to stay at another hostel that we had read alot of good stuff about (Casa Tranquilo). Then he almost got mad because he saw that we had booked a tour from a different tour-operator in town ( I had the receit in my hand and he asked to see it, friendly at first). This was really uncomfortable and not to mention rude. "Why didn't you book here?!" Was the first thing he said, and this definately did not make us want to stay there another night.
The place has some potential, with a nice view from the dining-area, and overall I think the owner and the workers had good intentions, but just came off a little bit too rude and pushy for my taste.
