My friend and I arrived late, and since the hostel we had planned to stay in was full, we ended up spending one night at Savegre Inn.

The owner and the staff were very eager to help arrange trips (of course they get commission), and for my taste; maybe a bit too eager. The owner kept asking what we wanted to do, and since it was late, we had travelled the whole day and did not really know what we wanted, this was just too much and too pushy.

Plus: Our room was very cheap, we paid 8 dollars for a room with a bunkbed and a double-bed and private bathroom, including breakfast.
Minus: Also our roomed smelled really rotten and raw (since it was in the cellar).

The breakfast was just a funny story: we got two pieces of white bread, and 10 pieces of fruit, and coffee or tea.
It felt like we were on "Biggest Looser" or on a health-camp. But the funny part was that the owner came up and said; "You can take four more pieces of fruit if you want!" Really nice, but just the whole "only so and so many pieces" was kind of funny and a little bit ridiculous. But, you get what you pay for!

We also had a unpleasant experience because we wanted to leave after one night. The owner kept asking why, and if we didn't like it. We said it was ok, but that we wanted to stay at another hostel that we had read alot of good stuff about (Casa Tranquilo). Then he almost got mad because he saw that we had booked a tour from a different tour-operator in town ( I had the receit in my hand and he asked to see it, friendly at first). This was really uncomfortable and not to mention rude. "Why didn't you book here?!" Was the first thing he said, and this definately did not make us want to stay there another night.

The place has some potential, with a nice view from the dining-area, and overall I think the owner and the workers had good intentions, but just came off a little bit too rude and pushy for my taste.

Room Tip: Would avoid the cellar room; smelled rotten and the air was very raw. Don't know how the rooms w...

Bryans service really made the place. He went above and beyond to provide anything we need including our own personal bbq. I would suggest requesting a room upstairs because downstairs you can hear every foot fall and it is quite moist.

Bryan worked hard for his money and he also came off as a service-minded person. The room itself was ok, even though I would have prefered a little more lamps (pretty gloomy feeling to it), for example bed lamps. The hostel was right outside of town, but everything was still within walking distance. The view from the dining area was the best thing about Savegre Inn - I wish they could have used it better and maybe let their customers use it as a common room.
So this is what I found ok with the hostel and now I'll write about the things I had a harder time to deal with. The owner started immediately ask about when I was going to write a review about the place and this he did every so often that at the end I tried to avoid him. I even got the feeling that that was the only reason why the owner had invested in a guest computer. If only the owner could be more relaxed about the whole thing and instead put that energy he now put on getting reviews on Tripadvisor on cleaning, making sure the dishes are put away in the comunal kitchen and so on, it would actually be more positive things to review on Tripadvisor. The breakfast had a limit on ten pieces of fruit and two pieces of bread, which didn't make me even close to full. So I would suggest them to remove that ridiculous rule and instead let their customers take as many fruit pieces as they want and in that way make sure that their customers are happy customers and not customers thinking that the owner is a cheap person.

This place is pretty chill, we got a private room for cheaper than the dorms down the street. Brian is a really cool guy, he does get commission on the tours you book through him but he isn't pushy and he's really helpful. The free breakfast is nice too, it's basic, but the coffee's good and it's enough to get you going. This place might seem a bit off putting at first, but it's awesome. Keep in mind that aside from the price, it isn't a backpacker's hostel. There wasn't much of a social atmosphere, so if you want to meet people you'll probably want to try somewhere else.

We had a great time at this hostel. Hot showers were an added bonus. Rooms are basic and clean. Bryan was a really great host who arranged all our activities both in monte verde and la fortuna. He seems to know everybody and in the 2 days we were in monte verde he arranged everything from the cloud forest to zip lining hanging bridges Tarzan swing night tour bunjee jumping and trapichi coffe tour. He is very passionate about travel and ensuring that the guests have a great time. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommended due to the great hospitality. Also great location near centre of town.
