“Great place to stay and great value..!”
Reviewed 13 March 2014

Doesn't felt as a low budget hostel at all...the place is super cozy, the dorms are really clean, comfortable and have some sort of privacy for the bunk beds because they are divided. Friendly and efficient attention, hot showers, nice kitchen and a GREAT home made breakfast.
The best part: you feel like a guest, not like a client...nobody try to sale you anything!

My friend and I had such a great time at Casa Tranquilo! The owner David and his partner Emel are super welcoming and accommodating. They make you feel like you are staying at your home away from home. Anything that we needed, they were more than happy to help us out.

The place(s) itself is very cool. There is a main house with the reception, kitchen, upstairs hangout area, computer with internet connection, and the private rooms. The second house has the kitchen where breakfast is served and then the dorm rooms above. I loved the set up of the dorm rooms! Bunk beds hand made by David himself and wooden stairs that lead to the upstairs area (it has a very treehouse feeling).

The wifi all over the property worked great for us. I was so excited that the kitchen not only had recycling for glass, aluminum and plastic, but also for compost! There are lots of recycled items all over the property that have been made into art or other useful items. You can tell that David is a very environmentally conscious person and that he encourages all of his guests to be when they stay at his place.

The front of the "Casa" has a very comfortable hammock to hang out in and a large mural painted directly on the front. I thoroughly enjoyed the art all over the property.

The breakfast in the morning was filling and delicious. It is a portion of scrambled eggs, fresh fruit (watermelon & pineapple) and DELICIOUS banana bread. Seriously wonderful banana bread. There is also coffee and tea available all day for free.

Location in town is also great. The supermarket is just a 5 minute walk up the hill and the bus station is just a 10 minute walk up the hill. Very easy to go grab food or drinks whenever you need to.

We had such a great time here. I would most definitely come back and stay again!

After that long dusty ride up to Monteverde, my bf and I were so happy to tuck into bed at Casa Tranquilo. Emel checked us in and was just so welcoming and friendly we knew that we were home. Unfortunately the bus ride left both of us dreadfully ill and we went straight to bed. That was when we realized that the main road was directly next to the hotel and we spent many hours tossing and turning on the lumpy matress before we could get to sleep. We made it through the night and were so grateful for the delicious free breakfast that the family cooked for us.
Because we rushed up to Monteverde, we could only reserve one night at Casa Tranquilo. They were so helpful to let us use their phone to call around before we were finally able to secure another hostel.
All in all, beautiful hostel with amazing staff. Maybe a bit noisy before 11pm, but not in anyway they could have changed. I would recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a good deal and a beautiful hostel. Be sure to make a reservation because this place is simply too amazing to have vacancy.

Casa tranquilo was an awesome place to stay, wonderful people, great breakfast, and good location! Free wifi, warm showers and great staff. Would definitely recommend to stay here. Emel is the best hostel manager, we had a great time hanging out with him and he had good insight on where to check out attractions. The hostel is clean and fun :)

We stayed a whole week and really loved the inn keepers and european visitors. The owner/managers adore Monteverde and have done all the tours and adventures, give great advice and when we decided, they called and booked our day trips for us. The breakfast is included - eggs, fruit and fresh baked banana bread. Wifi was a lifesaver since I stayed on airplane mode the whole time.

There's so many good things to say about Tranquilo. Emil and David were incredibly helpful throughout our stay, which made us feel at home immediately. As mentioned before by others, the included breakfast was delicious (including yummy homemade cake!). The whole vibe to the hostel is really nice. We stayed in a private room + bathroom, which was very spacious and kept clean. The only criticism we have, which is hardly worth mentioning in light of everything else, is the mattress we had was a bit uncomfortable. Highly recommend staying here, it's been our favorite hostel so far!

Very helpful owners, fair price, good location and it's nice they have a kitchen, coffee maker and fridge for public use besides their fabulous included breakfast! David is half American half Costa Rican so if your Spanish is poor he can still help you out with everything, highly recommended.
