Our group of 10 adults and teenagers stayed here for a couple of nights in March. We received such a warm welcome from the owners when we arrived. They gave us 4 rooms all in a row which was very nice and convenient. The owners were also very helpful with arranging transporation for our tours and with recommendations for restaurants in the area. We found the rooms to be exceptionally clean, and the property quiet, safe and secure. We would definitely stay here again.

Both my wife and I enjoyed and appreciated the warm welcome that the owners and staff gave us when we arrived. Jose was a most congenial host helping us with organizing our various tours and restaurant suggestions during our week long stay. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast gave us a good start on the day. I would recommend the Monteverde Rustic Lodge to anyone spending time in this wonderful part of the World.

what a great place; quiet clearn and secluded; no heat or airconditioners in this climate; whirlpool clean and huge., rooms small but nice,; beds hard and not comfortable. not sound proof; could here people above us out on the porch; food excellent especially breakfast. would definitely return.

Room Tip: 2nd floor less noise

My husband and I stayed here on the second half of our honeymoon last June. There is beautiful woodwork everywhere, the rooms were well-cleaned and maintained, it's a great value, and Jose and Ernesto were so helpful. There is a complimentary breakfast that was delicious and homemade (eggs, pancakes, etc.), with fresh fruit and coffee of course! Jose and Ernesto helped us to make reservations at some local places. We went on the Selvatura Zipline tour and went riding at Smiling Horses. Some of the local restaurants we ate at were the Tree House Cafe, a pizzeria, and Sabor Tipico (the last 2 are very close to the lodge and Jose and Ernesto were very happy to point them out to us on a map). We had rented a car for transportation, since we arrived in San Jose, stayed in Manuel Antonio for 4 days for our wedding, and then drove north to the Monteverde region, but in Santa Elena we walked everywhere. There is a hill to get up and down, and some roads are not paved, so for anyone with mobility issues, I think it's doable, but it could be taxing.

Overall, this was an amazing lodge and trip. It wasn't too far from town, but just far enough that there wasn't any road traffic late at night, and had food closer by if we didn't want to walk to town. The staff was great and we would definitely go back! We really enjoyed getting to hear Jose's passion for a community group he is a part of that is trying to get the long, gravel road paved that goes into Santa Elena. It's over a dozen kilometers with many potholes and having it paved would not only make it easier on tourists, but more importantly would help with deliveries in and out of Santa Elena. We were excited for Jose and hopefully the next time we visit, there will be a paved road that he helped make happen.
