We just came back from a trip to Costa Rica where we spent 2 weeks. We are a group of friends from Europe and we travel a lot together. I enjoyed Monteverde overall and recommend a 2-day trip if you like zip lines or if you want to see the hanging bridges and the rain forest. We are very active so I would not recommend staying longer than 2 days, but there are many things you can do in 2 days.

We really loved our hosts in Monteverde. Cabins reminded me of some places in Europe I like. We had plenty of room, everything was well organized and very clean. There was nothing that we did not like.

Owners spent a lot of time with us showing their property. We also enjoyed the breakfast- you have to try pancakes with bananas and pineapples! We have been to places that are more upscale and a lot more expensive, but I did not like them as much as did like this place.

We were lucky enought to spend 4 nights at Cabanas Valle Campanas in one of Reina's beautiful cabins. The cabin itself was delightful, a lovely sitting area outside, shaded by a tree, a kitchen downstairs, equipped with everything we needed and a daybed, and upstairs a very comfortable bedroom with plenty of storage space, a clean and fresh bathroom with hot shower, and the great balcony, complete with hammock. What more could you want? Well, there was more...Reina and Leo, her kind husband, couldn't do enough for us. Breakfast (three options) was freshly cooked: pancakes were good and the traditional Gallo Pinto breakfast is highly recommended by me (the tortillas were the best in Costa Rica, and the homemade Halloumi cheese was marvellous). Reina was more than happy to help us with booking onward transport to Arenal and anything else we needed (including washing our by then muddy socks and walking trousers!). We were also lucky enough to be given a tour of the sugar cane trapiche and the grounds, which are used to grow all the lovely fresh fruit and veg eaten at breakfast. There is a short walking trail as well, which is worth a stroll round on a late afternoon. We saw a mother and baby sloth in the trees at the property, and heard the keel-billed toucan (although we didn't see him unfortunately). The cabins are situated a short walk from Santa Elena, so were very peaceful. Perfect for a good night's sleep after a few cold beers on the balcony. As I said, what more could you want? Highly recommended.

Just as everyone else mentioned this place is outstanding.

The owner is very friendly and helpful. She had great recommendations and advice and assisted us with some tough last-second reservations.

The cabins are amazing. They are set on the quiet farm with sunset views and are just the right distance from town (with a car). Inside the cabins have gorgeous stained wood walls and furniture. They are also great little extras like a hammock and kitchenette.

A fantastic place and value.

Like most people mention, we don't have anything unique to stay about the premises. There were just ideal. One aspect that made it especially pleasant for us was the fact that my shy daughter felt comfortable playing with the owners' daughter. Even though they didn't spend the same language, and there was an age difference, their daughter made mine feel especially welcomed by inviting her to play with an extra bicycle and personally showing her the animals. If the owners' daughter is so welcoming, think how much the owner were. We truly had a wonderful experience.

We stayed at Cabanas Valle Campanas for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. The houses are spacious, clean and very comfortable. Reina was an impressive host. Don't forget to buy a few bags of her coffee, it's incredible.
