The room was nice and cleen. The mineral water swimming pool is wonderful. Spa and pool is free. The food in the restaurant is good and the price is medium for 4*. Parking is free.
The room base is litle.

We stayed in a luxury double room, 2nd floor. The room was excellent - large and clean. The indoor pool and Jacuzzi were terrific, the internet in the room was fast and reliable but in the public areas and the restaurant - not so much. The food in the restaurant was tasty most of the time - we could tell which chef is working, there was one whose food was not that good.

The outdoor pool was not warm enough for swim in the winter (around 0 degrees Celsius). In the restaurant the tables were not always cleaned (there were often bread crumbs). The masseuses were very very strong and although relaxing at the time of massage, the next day we almost had bruises.

I've been visiting this hotel for more than 10 years already, because of the unique location and the wonderful mineral water swimming pool in the forest. There was a time, when I thought that they improving their services. There was a big renovation 5-6 years ago and I thought, that it will not only affect the prices, which are now 5 time higher than before, but also the service. I must admit, that on the reception the personnel is very friendly and helpful in contrast of the restaurant.
I can not accept, that the towels are so old, that they crumble, and that the toilet paper is so cheep and thin, that you can hardly use it.
One can see that they are trying to save from the breakfast too - the most cheep and lousy food you can find on the market are on disposal only. Every day the same. And for dinner or lunch you have a limited choice, but with extraordinary high prices.
If there wasn't the location and the pool, I would't return. If this continues the way it goes now, I'm not sure, that this will be enough to bring me back there next time.

First of all, this hotel is not on the main Velingrad mineral water springs.Though the water there is less (radio)active it still needs to be refreshed at a high enough rate to keep its properties. In the days when it was "Bulgarian Communist Party Central Committee Rest Centre" it was the sole user of this spring. In those days the spring pretty much ran into the pools so they had fresh mineral water.

That is old glory. The hotel shares that spring with a set of new hotels so the mineral water in the pools is not refreshed at the frequency required to keep it "active". It is over-chlorinated as well. All in all all people in our party ended up with urinal tract problems after 5 days there (something I never ever had at a Bulgarian spa before).

To add insult to injury the beds are so soft that you get a bad back (so much for going to a spa to fix it). Food is mediocre, service is more or less OK but not great.

Room Tip: The "family" rooms have a door which joins them to the next room down the hall into a prop...

Stayed there in 2007. AFter that they had their rennovation completed. Great pool (big enough, with a bar upstairs and all goes to your room bill using a card), no children area, but jacusi (not a big one though), cosy and very clean rooms, each with a balcony to the mountain. All year outside pool with natural warm mineral water. At the time the restaurant was ... mildly sad bad. But I hear now people are saying it is completely renovated and great food and service is there. The way to get there (from town) was pretty ugly in 2007 - don't know if changed), but definetely was not pleasant to leave your car at the hotel and decide to come back at night from a bar or else - it was scary wild and deserted area. To me it is a little bit expensive for what is being offered. Seems though there is no real alternative in Velingrad (check my comments on Sveti Spas - there is the big bang). Velingrad as a whole is away from being ready for 21st century SPA tourism - it has a red neck approach still.
