“Best choice in the town”
Reviewed 16 March 2014

I choose Velina hotel for spa weekends for me and friends from years till nowadays. Until now I've never been disappointed. There are certainly more luxurious hotels, especially those built in the last 2-3 years, but no one can compete with Velina as a base and location.
Located literally over Kleptuza lake and next to a pine forest. It's so wonderfull feeling in the morning to open the balcony door and feel the aroma of dewy pine.
As around no other edifices, the hotel extends a relatively large area. There is ample parking for all guests, which is a great plus. From it began several tourist routes for lovers of mountain trekking.
The rooms are not large but are very comfortably furnished and have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Maybe some of them need little refreshment. The last time we were in a room 104 and the plaster was slightly dirty, the bathroom had rust and scale, but nothing fatal at all.
The Spa is also very large. Although during our stay, which coincided with a national holiday in Bulgaria and there was not a single free room, we did not feel disturbed by other guests. It was calm enough in the indoor pool and sauna and in the restaurant too. Mentioning the restaurant must note that the hotel offers good food. Breakfast is hearty and delicious, if you order for lunch or dinner also has good choice. Only the portions are little bit small, but this further helps maintain good shape.
So far I have not had black remarks on the hotel or its staff, I hope to be so in the future. I recommend it for everyone - couples, families with children and even for women's Spa weekends.

Room Tip: Always ask for a room on higher floor.

Although the hotel is a bit pricey we really enjoyed our relaxed stay at this hotel. The rooms are spacious and nicely furnished having spectacular views of the forest. The room was cleaned on a daily basis and carpets were vacumed and bathrooms scrubbed. I was a bit disappointed not to find a safe within the room. The outdoor mineral water pool was the top attraction for us. The indoor pool, sauna and steam room were good and efficient and were all included in the room price. I would recommend this hotel for a relaxing weekend or a short visit to Velingrad. The breakfast was really good and had a nice variety of items to choose from. The restaurant food was ok but also slightly pricey when compared to others in the vicinity. The overall service was satisfactory and I would definitely visit this hotel again in the near future.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms 200 onwards. The ones on the lower level have a high level window without balcony and...

The hotel is old, renevated few years ago,so the architecture is a little bit old fashioned, the rooms are not very big, although we were in a luxury room.It was very cold in the room,as well as in the corridors,we were given an additional heater upon r equest, the telephone in the room was not working,so the emergency phone in the bathroom. The restorant was OK, food was delicious, though a little expensive. The advantages are the swimingpools, it is great to swim in the winter in an outdoor pool. The hotel is situated outside the town in the forest and you cannot walk to the city centar, must catch a taxi. There are better hotels in Velingrad.

We stayed in a luxury double room, 2nd floor. The room was excellent - large and clean. The indoor pool and Jacuzzi were terrific, the internet in the room was fast and reliable but in the public areas and the restaurant - not so much. The food in the restaurant was tasty most of the time - we could tell which chef is working, there was one whose food was not that good.

The outdoor pool was not warm enough for swim in the winter (around 0 degrees Celsius). In the restaurant the tables were not always cleaned (there were often bread crumbs). The masseuses were very very strong and although relaxing at the time of massage, the next day we almost had bruises.

I've been visiting this hotel for more than 10 years already, because of the unique location and the wonderful mineral water swimming pool in the forest. There was a time, when I thought that they improving their services. There was a big renovation 5-6 years ago and I thought, that it will not only affect the prices, which are now 5 time higher than before, but also the service. I must admit, that on the reception the personnel is very friendly and helpful in contrast of the restaurant.
I can not accept, that the towels are so old, that they crumble, and that the toilet paper is so cheep and thin, that you can hardly use it.
One can see that they are trying to save from the breakfast too - the most cheep and lousy food you can find on the market are on disposal only. Every day the same. And for dinner or lunch you have a limited choice, but with extraordinary high prices.
If there wasn't the location and the pool, I would't return. If this continues the way it goes now, I'm not sure, that this will be enough to bring me back there next time.
