Plat is a very lovely place to stay and enjoy during the summer. Villas are very nice and good equipped. The pool look's very nice, especially during the evening, but I always prefer crystal clear Adriatic sea. Plat is about 20 minutes by bus from Dubrovnik.

We have just returned from a enjoyable two week stay in the Hotel Orphee. We had a side-sea view room and sure enough you could see the sea but any further back you would have only trees. The room was basic but ok and the aircon was a god send with the hot weather we had. We were half board so used the hotel restaurant most days and there was always a veggie, fish and 2 meat options every day. All the food we had was good quality. There is also a Sunset Restaurant in the complex (payment required) which I would recommend and is reasonably priced. The pool is excellent but is used by everybody in the complex not just the hotel so if you have not got a sunbed by 9:30 your on the beach. The staff are very friendly and generally talk good English and other languages. The two weeks we were there 95% of the holiday makers were French so a lot of the entertainment was geared round them but did not stop the others joining in. There is a few pebbled beaches adjacent which are usable. There is an entertainment team which offer activities from Aqua fit to learning Crostian and they keep the young chidren entertained also. There is a local boat service to Cavtat, Mlini, Dubrovnic etc. and the Hotel runs a shuttle bus to Dubrovnic, finally if you have the energy you can walk up the hill and catch the local bus. To sum up we had a cheap and cheerful value for money holiday.

Firstly... to clear up any confusion, if booking, Plat Hotel & Villas / Hotel & Villas Plat / Villas Plat Hotel is Hotel Orphee and vice versa. From what I gathered while there, the site is Plat Hotel & Villas which own hotel Orphee so if you are booking half board at Hotel & Villas Plat (or any of the other names) you will be staying in Hotel Orphee.
The hotel is a great cheap hotel. Not hiding behind anything, it is not a luxury hotel (although the pool could make you forget that) it is however a very clean, cheap, good all-round, bread & butter hotel.
The room was standard, average bed, small tv, fridge, air-con, bath/shower and balcony; nothing fancy but clean and cleaned every day too. We stayed in sea view and the view was fab.
The staff were very friendly and were happy to help with anything.
The food was reasonably vaired and was edible and in most part very tasty. You will always find something to eat as there was always chicken and chips available if the more Croatian dishes did not take your fancy.
The main gem in the Orphee crown is the pool, brilliant views watching the sunset from it.
The beach is a standard Croatian beach, pebbley but the water is fabulously warm and fantastically blue.
We did not hire a car due to age restrictions, however useful one would be, it is not a necessity (although if we could have one, we would). There is a reasonably regular bus service to and from old town run by the hotel costing 100Kn return or you can walk to the top of the hill where it is 60Kn return but it is a bit of a trek up a steep hill if it is very hot.
Overall, for the price a good hotel but there is no getting away from the fact it is basic.

Room Tip: Must get sea view! The view is fabulous. We stayed in D10 which had air-con (other people complained...

For what we paid I was very happy with what my wife and I received during our week's break in early June 2012. Don't expect anything flashy as this isn't that kind of place. Cheap & cheerful is how I would describe it. We went on a room only basis and asked for a quiet room on the top floor. We were given a room in Villa Diana which was very clean and comfortable. Like other reviewers I wholeheartedly concur as to the friendliness of the staff. We stayed away from the pool area as it was a bit too crowded and noisy for us so we went to one of the two pebble beaches on the few occasions we wanted a swim (don't forget some jelly shoes - a lifesaver!) We found that going for an early morning swim we had the beach to ourselves. We ate at the Plat Taverna on our last night and were pleasantly surprised, other than that we ate at places in Cavtat and Dobrovnik which were pretty average, and not really good value for money.

The only one complaint I would have re. the room at Villa Plat was that the aircon. which didn't work properly, if at all - and it got pretty hot some days! We tried telling staff that just because the unit was blowing out air and making a noise this didn't mean it was functioning properly - to no avail. We didn't let this spoil our holiday though. I wouldn't like to have the same problem later on in the summer though that's for sure!

As far as the hill at the premises was concerned this didn't cause a problem for us. If we wanted to go to Dobrovnik we usually went on the shuttlebus ( about £5.00 return per person I think it was) which picked up from reception. Other than that we hired a car for a couple of days so only had to walk up the hill the once, but hey - we benefited from the exercise! We found the local hire car rep on site very friendly and helpful (much more so than the person our tour rep suggested! ) Car hire for a class B small car was Euro 50.00. Cost of fuel is very similar to the UK.

this hotel is situated right on beach but to get down to it is a monster of all hills, ok if your driving, but if you have problems walking then this hotel is not for you.
We stayed here in november 2009, sellf catering, the room was ok, slighly basic, only a small fridge 2 ring hob, and no electric kettle, we had a visit from ants the second day we were there, running along the wall next to the bed, although we told reception and they left us a tub of ant powder, we were on 1st floor ??? the hotel has different areas, self catering block and the hotel, and also a couple of different eateries, not lots of choice but what they do have is good and tasty, there is a bus every morning that takes you to dubrovnic for a fair price, and local buses run every 10mins so getting back is no problem, they drop you off on the main road and then all you have to do is walk down the hill, which is a good 20mins, there is a restaurant half way, family run, amazing food but pricey, the hotel has a lovely aspect pool and pool side bar serving drinks and bar food, the staff were all very nice, valve for money this hotel can not be beaten, would defo stay here again, just bring our walking shoes next time ha ha

We stayed 2 weeks bed and breakfast - buffet style but lots of choice and there is a large pleasant terrace. Absolutley great staff - friendly and helpful. Hotel is very clean.

2 beaches to choose from - one with a bar and shelter under fig trees. Take your jelly shoes as beaches are pebbly. Sea/swimming is excellent.

15 minutes to Dubrovnik on shuttle bus. 15 minutes to Cavtat on public transport (good service).

Taverna restaurant is recommended - excellent sea food and lamb and the prices are very reasonable.

Only criticism is that I think the grounds could be a little better kept - I am a keen gardener and was itching to do a bit of sorting out.

Room Tip: I woul say 2nd floor gives the best views of the sea.

Hotel Orphee, Plat, Croatia

We stayed at the hotel Orphee which is part of the Plat Villa’s / Hotel complex, as it was considerably cheaper to stay B&B in the hotel than in the self catering villa’s next door. In hindsight this was much better as there is no large supermarket nearby!
The hotel and room were clean (the room was cleaned daily), had free air conditioning, had a fridge and had enough space for the 2 of us.
The breakfast was the buffet type, with plenty of cold meats, cheeses, fruit, bread etc as well as hot items like eggs, bacon, sausage etc.
The complex is about 15 minutes up hill walk away from the main road, and the walk is quite steep, the buses run from the main road roughly every half hour to Cavtat and Dubrovnik (cost about £1 each way). Both towns need visiting both during the day and on an evening for totally different experiences.
The small complex at Plat has a bistro serving drinks, pizza’s and light snacks (not the best food to be honest), a very small shop selling a few items, i.e. drinks, ice cream, etc.
There is a pool bar serving food and drinks which was fine, there are also a couple of nice beach bars (the one about 10 minutes walk past the Taverna is excellent for great food, service and wonderful sunsets. You must try the mix grill here!
The Platt Taverna restaurant is also much recommended – and you get 15% discount if you show your room key- lovely food, great service and wonderful views over the sea.
A five minute walk towards the main road is another restaurant called King, the food here is also fantastic, and it’s also a very popular place, so it’s worth booking if you want to eat after 8pm. Opposite you will see the old larger hotel, which is now just a shell following the Homeland War, prior to the war the hotel had a gym and indoor pool. Now the buildings are shells and are waiting to be knocked down and redeveloped. Previous apparently the resort was 100% government owned, but now it’s 80% owned and the resort is awaiting investors. This also explains why all the menus and prices in Plat are identical.
At the resort there was always evening entertainment each night, ranging from dance groups, to disco’s, to live music etc. During the morning and afternoons you could partake in various activities like bowls, archery, etc
There were plenty of sun loungers / parasols around the pool (which was sea water) and these were free to use for hotel guests.
If you are after a relaxing holiday in a quiet location, you’ll love it here, and if you decide you want a lively evening Cavtat is only a 10 minute bus ride away or Dubrovnik about 15 minutes bus ride away.
A tourist bus also operates from the hotel each morning (not Sunday) and will take you from the complex to Dubrovnik if you don’t fancy the walk up the hill, it also returns in the afternoon (appox £2 each way).
There are also boat trips from the pier – be careful when using these, as you will be herded from one boat to another on the trips and you will need to keep asking / reminding the crew where you are going, for example we booked to go Lokrum island and ended up on 6 boats and they forgot to drop us off, and we ended up Lopud island.
We did go to Lokrum island on another day – easiest, quickest and cheapest way is to get the bus to Dubrovnik, then use the regular boat to the island from the port – (about 10 mins), included in the boat ticket is entry to the island, whereas you have to pay a small fee to get on the island if you use the boat from Platt.
Lokrum Island is a must for a day trip; there is a monastery, botanic gardens, a lake for swimming, a bar, restaurant with peacocks walking around, like a day in paradise!
We also went on day trips to Bosnia and Montenegro – these are long full days, with plenty to see, and don’t cost the earth. Well recommended.
If you are expecting Croatia to be cheap, you will be disappointed, as they are about to join the EU, prices are rose scientifically this year, although prices aren’t expensive compared to other countries, prices are a lot higher than previously in Croatia.
Great relaxing holiday in lush green surroundings.
