Les Bords de Seine Hotel-Restaurant
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in La Roche-Guyon
Reviewed 31 May 2014

Have eaten at Bords de Seine over 50 times in about 25 years, and 95% of the time the food is excellent and good VFM. Service has generally been good. Staff are friendly. If people say they are not, I suspect that they have not treated the staff respectfully in the first place. Rooms are fine for the money. If you want quiet, face the town; but if you want fantastic view, face the river, but be prepared for restaurant noise until about midnight (if your windows are open). Had some problems with internet service, but that might not have been the hotel's fault.

Room Tip: Ask for chambre en fac de Seine if you want a view; but en fac de Roche Guyon if you want quiet

Visited Giverny but wanted a restaurant away from this tourist "hot-spot". Internet search came up with the web site of this hotel restaurant.
Monday lunchtime, well out of tourist season, but restaurant was already half full when we arrived. Good vibes if so many locals eat here !

Efficient but not particularly friendly service. No attempt to engage and very few smiles.
Variable menu range: large choice of entrees but more limited choice of main courses. Food was very good and seemed to be freshly prepared to order using very fresh ingredients. There was certainly the feel of an experienced chef at work in the kitchen. Very good value lunch menu. We left feeling very contented.

(Nb. As a hotel, the entrance areas and toilets were extremely dated and we would not have been impressed if we had booked to stay over.)

The location of this hotel a few feet from the Seine is lovely. The dinner was very good, good choices and service. Pleasant dining room. All appealing. The actual bedroom was plain but clean, bathroon very nice. The hotel needs to brighten up the hallways and put in a new carpet but overall a good value and would stay there again. Extremely interesting caatle ruins, limestone caves and chateau all on top of each other.

We were recommended this restaurant by the owner of our B&B we were staying in who thankfully made a reservation for us as the dining room was full by 8.00pm. The selection from the three-course set menu was more extensive than normal and everything we had was of high quality served by very friendly young staff. The location is perfect to round off the evening with a stroll along the river.

We first stayed here 30+ years ago and again perhaps 20-ish years ago, We were thus returning to a past haunt. Excitingly, the bedrooms are now all en-suite. It is an acceptable and charming hotel without frills on the Seine. We had dinner in the restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by the quality. A stroll along the Seine is a must. Plan time to visit the Chateau before visiting Giverny, Monet's garden, only 15 minutes away. We will return one day.

Room Tip: It's quieter on the countryside side but delightful on the Seine-side.

We tried to stay here a few years ago, but they were fully booked, so this time we booked 2 nights demi-pension (bed, breakfast & evening meal) via the Logis website. We were given a large, clean, airy room (Room 4) with comfortable bed, at the front with views over the Seine. The room was directly above the terrace, so there was some noise until midnight but this did not bother us at all (very quiet after that until about 7.45am). La Roche Guyon is a beautiful place & this hotel is in a lovely location. The staff were friendly & attentive, not a lot of English spoken, but we got by easily on our limited French. We had dinner on the terrace both nights - the food was very good indeed; service was a little slow due to the large main restaurant & the terrace being completely full (advise booking in advance for both the hotel & restaurant), but we were in no rush & happy to soak up the atmosphere. This place seems to be hugely popular with the French. Breakfast was the typical French breakfast of juice, yoghurt, hot drink, croissants, bread & jam, which was more than enough for us (it's rare to find cooked breakfast in France). Just a couple of miles from Monet's Garden & a short trip to Versailles, it's a great place to stay in this area & we would certainly return. When we asked for the bill, the lady checked it & said the bill had been wrongly calculated and without asking, adjusted it down by about 70 euros. Great value at 250 euros for 2 nights/2 people/dinner both nights/drinks/wine/coffees/breakfasts.

We started badly, the hotel had lost our bookings and presumably the credit card details we had sent them. They did have an annex not far from the hotel and offered us a room there. The room was modern but did have some curious design faults. The hanging rack was placed directly over the heater and was therefore unusable and the bed was placed hard against a wall which meant that, to get out of bed, if you were on the wall side, you had to climb over your partner.
The evening meal was very good (duck confit) and like the room, reasonably priced.
Our impression of the town itself is that it is attractive and friendly with great views over the Seine and worth a visit, you could even stay for a meal at the hotel.
