Beautiful, large clean beach with lots to do in the surrounding areas including a moving D-Day landing memorial.

Lots on free on street parking although we were not there in peak season (we were there in a UK half term holiday in late May.

a few cafes and kiosks near to the beach huts served great coffee and snacks.

“The beach”
Reviewed 2 July 2014

Plague de Oustreham or Sword beach is now a beautiful sandy beach stretching for miles to the west. It is extremely clean, no paper, plastic bottles, cans and the like, it is 'swept' daily. Beach huts are located around the main entrance, privately owned I think. The locals make use of it from around 1600hrs, there are a number of cafes, crêpes kiosks, toilets and a restaurant near the main entrance together with some wooden benches which are available to anyone. A real pleasure to go there, congratulations to the locals and council for keeping it in such good condition, we have a lot to learn!!

Arrived for the anniversary of the D day landings and it was full of people admiring the views and open sands of this beach where the British and French soldiers came ashore A statue of the famous piper Bill Millin was on a small mound alongside the beach and it was from this area that the relief of the Pegasus bridge started and the eventual breakout

Everyone should come to see the landing beaches where the British and French commandos & Canadian 1st airborne secured the eastern flank6/6/44. Sword, Juno and gold beaches.
Visit nearby museums and remember the brave men who lost their lives for our liberty.
