Ivy House - Utah Beach Normandy
Reviewed 25 April 2013

Emma and Andy have managed to end up in a great place. Ivy house was a perfect location for our journey and pleasantly quaint, close to the amazingly quiet Utah beach (down the street). I would prefer not to tell anyone about my new favorite location, but these folks and the location must be known to those who enjoy staying off the beaten path.

Not only a perfect stop on a road trip it is also a great extended stay location for a family. The cottages are very comfortable. Also would be an excellent stop for those biking around Normandy be it motorcycle or road bikes!

Do not miss Andy's museum in st Marie du mont. what a treasure trove of german war history. ( Just down the street) The food in this community is also excellent, definitely eat out and local, it is a wonderful town and with very pleasant people!
Andy and Emma, thanks again for your hospitality, can not wait to see you again . Emma enjoy your spring break with family, by the way Brittany is definitely an awesome place as well.

Stayed at Ivy House and had a wonderful time despite the cold weather. The cottage was great for the 3 of us & had all the facilities you need. Andy and Emma were really welcoming.
The cottage is ideal to visit all the nearby museums, beaches and various D day places. Well worth it.

we had the pleasure of staying at Ivy House and despite the rather cold weather, had a wonderful time. The gite had everything we needed and the welcome and assistance offered by Emma and Andy was second to none. We will definitely be returning. Lovely location, close to everything the area has on offer. well worth the experience.

Room Tip: book early and don't be afraid of the weather.

Ivy House is in a perfect location for Utah beach and is owned by welcoming hosts Andy and Emma. The two of us stayed in The Hemingway gite, which was ideal. The gite offers good kitchen facilities, a tv with English channels, dvd player. Upstairs there's a quaint double bedroom which has a sloping roof, lovely exposed stone wall and beams, room for a comfy double bed, plenty of drawer and hanging space. The en suite was on the small side but fine for the two of us.

During our stay we visited all 5 D Day beaches and took the coastal road instead of the N13 which enabled us to see more, there are some lovely villages along the way. The area was fairly quiet but I can imagine from June onwards that will all change.

Check out Andy's web site for information on Ivy House we found it very helpful for the gites he has for let, Utah beach, other places to visit, places to eat and directions from Cherbourg and includes some good photos.

I wish Andy and Emma all the best for the coming holiday season and have no hesitation in recommending Ivy House.

Just come back from a cold Normandy, and starting to snow, after visiting the Utah Beaches etc for last 3 days. Cottage ideally suited to visiting the nearby museums, St mere eglise. Andy and his wife were very nice and friendly, we had the end cottage so had lounge area to sit down at night and watch "Band of Brothers", which brought the area and history to life. NIce and clean with great warm duvets!
Very easy to reach from nearby Carentan main road. Many thanks

Our family of four (2 young teens + parents) spent a wonderful week in the Roosevelt Cottage at Ivy House over the Christmas break. The location was perfect for exploring Normandy, especially all the historical sites of interest in the area. We were lucky enough to have a personal tour of the Occupation Museum with Andy--a visit that impressed our boys very much! Andy is a true wealth of information. We also spent a lot of time on long, empty beaches in surprisingly mild weather (well, for us, coming from Sweden). It was great to be able to come home to Ivy House after a day of exploring and sightseeing. The kitchen is well-equipped so making meals is easy. Andy made sure we had some basic starters (pasta, eggs, milk, bread and more); and we stocked up at grocery stores in Saint Mere Eglise and Carentan. Perfect for families, especially in the off-season when restaurants are not open. (Also excellent if you have food allergies in your family!) We visited Utah Beach, the Airborne Museum, Andy's Occupation Museum, Omaha Beach and the cemetery, the Bayeux Tapestry and Mont Saint Michel, plus took drives and walks along the coast. We are so pleased that Andy and Emma stayed open in the low season as there were no crowds to fight anywhere. We highly recommend Ivy House as a base for exploring Normandy in all seasons. Everything about the booking was simple and straightforward, no surprises. Highly recommended!

This was such a find! From the warm hospitality to the individualized attention of the owner, you cannot go wrong choosing to stay at the Ivy House. The location was perfect to explore the Normandy beaches. Andy's ability to arrange last minute tours for us was the high point of our stay in Normandy. We will definitely be back!
