Normandy was a stop on our NCL cruise. I'll admit it was not on my bucket list, but I'm thankful we took a tour there. I was not born yet, but now I understand so much about the history involved and how crucial it was and still is important to those living in France.
Go through the museum first to acquaint yourself with the event. You can actually walk on Utah & Omaha beach. Lastly visit the American Cemetary and understand how war takes our young.

It's good to visit a D Day beach where things went more or less according to plan. It's a very attractive museum, with an enormous B26 bomber under cover, plenty more vehicles, equipment and case histories. It is also one of the best views of a beach from the German point of view, showing the dunes and obstacles. I noticed the high quality of the in-house photography, the portraits of airmen and other photography, which gives a modern quality feel.

Utah Beach is worth a visit from walking the beach to the more formal museum. The beach is lined with bunkers and fortifications as a visual reminder plus rusted landing vessels. Its all a very good reminder of a time when the world was consumed by war. Its our second visit and it makes you contemplate what people were going through, particularly the young Germans who were isolated and defeated. The stories of the veterans was very moving.

Want a visual idea of what was happening during the invasion? There are many excellent videos and displays that will answer most of your questions. Veterans tell their stories by video clips. Moving! You can see a restored bomber, check out the view from behind enemy lines as you look out over the beach. We could have spent more time here.

Wonderful to see Utah Beach and tour this museum. It's loaded with history, and has very nice gift shop. Don't miss it.
