“Fantastic house in a fantastic location”
Reviewed 29 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We spent a wonderful week in May in Archon Villa. This is really a fantastic house in a fantastic location. The house is just outside a very small village, Prodromi (with 7 inhabitants of which we have seen maybe 3). It is located on a hilltop overlooking a wild and green valley. You are surrounded by olive groves, nature, lots of sheep. In the night it very quiet and you hear only some owls down in the valley.

We loved the quietness and spent a lot of time on the large terrace, and in the garden behind the house, enjoying the view and solitude. We stayed on the top floor of the house, which has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you are with a larger - or more than one - family there is also an extra appartement downstairs, connected with stairs inside the house.

The house itself is magnificent. Very comfortable, luxurious, clean. Everything you could possible need is there. Good beds, bathrooms, washing machine, tv, satellite internet, great kitchen, airco, etc. The outside areas are great too, a large terrace on the front, and a garden with seating in the shade on the back. The garden has lots of flowers and is well tended, really nice. There is a small jacuzzi in the front garden, great for cooling off when it is warm (the water is not heated, so it was a bit cold in May).
As the house is built by and also used by Manya's own family, it feels like a real 'house', with character and real comfort, not just a holiday rental.
We felt priviliged to stay here, and after an afternoon in busy and touristic Paleochora, we were looking forward for the comfort and solitude of our 'secret hideawy' in the mountains, seen from far below or above when you arrive.

The area is great, you can do fantastic walks in the hills directly behind the house, even walk down all the way to the coast (only for experienced hikers). Paleochora is 20 min. by car on a swinding road down to the coast. On the other side of the mountain the house is on, you can drive down to Sougia, another great and peaceful place by the sea, with a good beach. We spent time on the great beaches on both sides of Paleochora and drove to Elafonisi one day. There is one taverna nearby in Anidri and lots of great places to eat in Paleochora.

Last but not least: the owner, Manya is really nice, caring and welcoming, and genuinly concerned for the wellbeing of her guests. She brought us fresh fruit from her garden, baked us some pies, and had filled the refrigerator so we had something to eat on arrival.
Be sure to ask for the olive oil coming from her own olive trees. We bought 3 liters to take home and it is delicious.

We really recommend this house, and have warm memories. Hopefully we will return another time!

“Amazing Villa - exceptional hospitality”

We had an awesome holiday staying in Archon Villa. It is no surprise there are so many 5 star reviews for this place. Its a stylish, fully equipped large villa nestled in peaceful mountains above Paleochora. The villa has all the amenities you would expect in a house rather than a holiday rental. This made our stay very comfortable as home cooking / washing was not problem and the children had beds, toys (a lot), bath, highchair, changing area, etc.

The surrounding area is perfect if you want to get away from it all. Extremely tranquil. You basically share the area with mountain goats, a few sheep and some farmers. There is a great restaurant "The School" in a close by town called Anidri and all other amenities are in Paleochora which is a 20min drive. We spent most of our time in the beaches surrounding Paleochora, some of which you could argue are better than Elafonissi

What really made our stay special was Manya's hospitality. It is truly unique. She is genuinely hospitable, concerned for your comfort and does so in a charming way. She cooked meals for us, made home made truffles, gave little gifts for the kids, provided a great welcome pack with fresh fruit / veges and other products to help us get started. She provided beach towels, completely serviced the place every 4 days and gave great advice throughout our trip

“A Superb Place to enjoy Crete and its lovely countryside”

A wonderful place not to be missed! Our group of seven including 3 children spent a great week at the villa in April 2015. The villa is high quaility, modern, spacious and superbly designed and fitted out with everything you might think of ( including for kids - they didn't want to leave!). Located in a typical Cretan village in the hills surrounded by olive trees, the villa has amazing views of the surrounding countryside and valley and being springtime the olive groves were alive with birdsong - with the flowers just coming into blossom. Its 20-25 minutes down windy roads from the the villa to the main settlement in area Paleohora with a wide selection of tavernas, supermarket and cash point etc aswell as its own beaches. We really enjoyed Sougia and the ruins at Lissos and the adults found that it was a great two and half hour walk down the tracks from the village to the resort. Walking down the gorge at Agria Irinis was a really great day aswell. The icing on the cake however onus was the lovely owner, Mayna and her warm hospitality - cooked food, oranges, local olive oil, and tasty home made wine. Robert, family and friends

“Great Hospitality and Villa”

This property is excellent, well finished and a great location. Everything you would require from a holiday is in place here. A car would be necessary though and parking inside the gates is not a problem.

The landlady , Manya, couldn't have shown us any more hospitality. An excellent host who cared about the guests at her property. Wonderful star lit skies at night and the pleasant sounds of the goat and sheep bells too.

As said all facilities in place here. We would certainly recommend this holiday let and will certainly re visit in the future.

“marvellous villa in the mountains”

We, my husband and I spent a wonderful week in this very comfortable Villa, with a big terrace, with a nice view. The house is located in the mountains quite alone among olive fields, so it is very calm there; the street up from Paleochora can be a challenge for non-experienced drivers, but it is a very idyllic way.
On our arrival day we were welcomed by our host, manya in paleochora, who accomponied us to the house; there she offered us a basket with coffee, tea, marmelade, peaches, eggs, milk,.... and local wine and local olive-oil and also recomondations, what to visit in the surrounding (beaches, Samaria gorge,...)
The Villa is well equipped (TV, SAT, w-lan, but also in the kitchen - everything you need) and there is air condition in the bed-room, which allows us to sleep, altough it was hot wheater during our stay.
To Paleochora you need 20 min. by car, but after already 10 minutes you reach the next village after Prodromi, where the villa is, called Anidiri. There is a Taverna with delicious food.
We liked to make trips through the mountains by car, I liked so much the oleander with violet and white blossoms, which you can find along the road.
Manya is a very nice and caring host, she even cooked for us a traditional greek meal.
It was such a wonderful holiday in this wonderful house - we will come back, perhaps in March or April to make some walking-tours

“Vacation in the Crete Paradise”

When we arrived in the Village Paleochora we felt immidiately welcomed by the dearest host, Manya, who picked us up, and felt at home when we arrived at the Archon Villa.

The Villa is so beautiful with its wonderful scenary you have from the terrace and the balcony. The surrounding is so quiet, the place is a real oasis.
After just a day we felt so relaxed and at home.

The house is stylish with modern furniture. Everything is very clean and there is nothing you could miss.
Manya was so nice to borrow us a buggy for our one year old daughter and in the house there is plenty of toys for the younger guests.
Also the kitchen is very well equipped.

There are several routes for hiking just by starting at the villa. They offered us such a breath-taking beauty of the Crete nature.
And to go to the beaches is just a couple of minutes. We recommend Anidri as it is a very nice scenery with nice shady trees and a little restaurant. But also the other beaches are just worth to visit.

As I write this lines I feel I could just return immediately.

Manya is a very caring owner, she helped us finding good restaurants and hikes. She even could figure out how to open the front lid of our Ford Focus (it's really tricky! :)
And anytime we met her, she always gave us delicious home made food.

Spoken in other words: If you don't choose for this place you will miss a lot!
