“Great time at Aggelo ! :)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 September 2013

Hotel Aggelo is nicely renovated hotel with relaxed family atmosphere, situated at great great resort Stalis, conveniently just a few steps from beautiful sandy beach, blue sea and many shops and tavernas.

Since our first moment in hotel, it was exceeding our expectations ! :) .. we were kindly invited with juice which, after a long travel from Heraklion (and Slovakia) was a kind surprise. The room was stylish (typical Greek style) - nice, simple and practical. Bathroom was very nice as well.
We asked for sea view in advance and got it. With no extra charge.
We were also nicely surprised by equipment of room. Refrigerator and hair-dryer are not inevitably features of 3-star hotels. This one got them.
During our first day, towel holder in bathroom got broken. We intended to use balcony instead, and did not report it therefore. However it has been repaired immediately on the next day morning after cleaning service. Apparently, hotel staff cares for guests' comfort.
Food in the hotel is excellent. Breakfast is buffet style (self service from variety of meals) with selection of cold, but also warm cuisine (loved pancakes), vegetables and fruit.
Dinner is also of buffet form, with selection of typical Greek meals, but always also with soup, pasta or other more universal cuisine. All meals were of excellent quality, very very delicious.
Staff in hotel was kind and friendly, always also very helpful. Wide smiling friendly waitresses make dinner always a more pleasant experience.

There has been nice playground and garden with pool behind hotel. We did not use it though as we were chasing waves in sea, but having kids, we would definitely would spend some time there.

In summary, we really enjoyed staying in Aggelo hotel and would recommend to anyone expecting nice 3* hotel with family atmosphere with good position, nice and well equipped rooms and friendly staff.

Love Crete, love Stalis, love Aggelo. Popi & Kostas, thank you, best wishes ! :)

Our first time in Crete was incredible. Aggelo Hotel was the best option, the perfect choice for our holiday. The rooms were very clean and we had a great view from the balcony. The bed sheets and the towels were changed every day. Great location of the hotel. The beach is very close, a few steps away. The swimming pool is also very nice, surrounded by palm trees. Very nice relaxing room, where you can use the internet or read. The food was excellent! Kostas Taverna is the best restaurant in the area, with great food, drinks and also atmosphere. We had lunch there every day of our stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. And last but not least, very nice, friendly and helpful hosts, Pinelopi and Kostas. Great view, incredible staff, perfect hosts. Thank you so much for making our holiday perfect!

The Aggelo Hotel in Stalis is one of the best in the resort. Very good value. It's very well maintained and always kept exceptionally clean. The staff were very friendly from Kostas and Poppy his lovely wife right down to the cleaners. The rooms were of a good standard especially for Greece with the Television, fridge, safe and air con included in the price. No sudden surcharges at the end of our stay but a must to book direct on Aggelo's own websight for better value!
The hotel is across the road from quite a nice beach and along with the sea view we asked for and received was a nice bonus, Room and balcony was always cool throughout the day and evening, being the position of the sun. The hotel is quite central allowing it easy of an evening to go for walks, bars and restaurants and there are plenty to chose from although the Aggelo hotel itself is lovely for evening meals and drinks which I would recommend worth a few tries. Breakfast is a typical continental one.
I would certainly use the hotel again. There was a lot of people from many countries which really added to the character of the resort and people watching is in abundance.
It is a resort mostly for couples of all ages. Not too many young singles around. They all seem to head up the road to Malia. All in All. A really lovely holiday.

Room Tip: Book direct with hotel for the better deals.

We stayed at hotel Aggelo in Stalis from 3-10 August and really enjoyed the whole period of our holiday.
Rooms are clean, and though not very spacious, all necessary things can be found in it. Bathrooms are renovated, but without a shower curtain - so we had to clean the bathroom after shower as it was water all around, however, this was not too much of a deal. Rooms are cleaned every day, towels and bedlinen are changed every 3 days.
Buffet breakfasts and dinners were delicious. There are about 4-5 dishes you can always choose from, with other side options like salads, deserts etc. We had lunch in the same hotel, at Kostas Taverna - so no problem with finding a lunch option. There's a Kid's menu available for children, too.
I have to especially mention the waiters of the restaurant area - really nice staff, absolutely lovely, speaking verious languages. We had a favcourite one, Liza - lovely greek girl, always smiling and being absolutely gorgeus :)
WiFi signal is available in a certain area only and is quite low, so do not count on browsing too much.
The hotel pool is a lovely, clean area with nice grass, where the kids can go crazy :)
The nearest beach is clean, the sea is wavy all the time and is great fun for adults, but if you or kids plan to dive - please better rent a car and visit Aghios Nicholaos, a very nice ancient town 70km from Stalis. There's a port with a nice beach there, the water is calm, children really liked it.
We also visited Heraklion, AcquaPlus Waterpark and Cretaquarium.
From all these I personally liked Aghios Nicholaos the most.
Be prepared that credit/debit cards are not accepted in many places - sometimes it's a real problem, so better take more cash than planned.
Overall we were happy to stay in this hotel and area, I thought it will be busier and louder with tourists but it was just about all right.

Thank you for a wonderful holiday. The hotel was clean, nice and reconstructed. The room was clean and cleaned every day. Towels and sheets were changed every other day Rich breakfast and dinner. For breakfast we could choose: sweet, vegetables, ham, cheese, cereals, cakes, juices, coffee, milk, tea. At dinner a selection of different meats, salads, pasta, vegetables. Fruit was also for breakfast and for dinner. All staff was very kind and helpful, cleaner, waitress, receptionist were simply perfect. Beach was a few steps away. Great location near center with many shops, taverns and restaurants. Satisfaction with everything. I recommend to anyone who wants to spend a nice time! I hope that we will return, greetings from Slovakia.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2013

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights, in July 2013. We weren’t as impressed as everybody else that posted here their impressions and I’ll explain why.

When we got there, after the check-in formalities, the lady owner took us to our room on the first floor. She pointed out the fact that we had sea view. “Great!”, we said. Then she left and we took a look around the room. It was pretty clean (we’ve been to cleaner rooms, we’ve been to less cleaner rooms), spacious, with a big closet to fit our stuff. The bathroom was pretty spacious too, but we had no shower curtain and that’s why we practically showered all over the bathroom every time. The balcony was ok, also. And that was the moment we realized we din not only have “sea view”, but also “street view” and were positioned above their restaurant.

After having a similar experience last year with a “street view” room and no possibility to have some rest day or night, and didn’t try to change it, this time we wanted to give it a try. We went downstairs to the reception desk where we found the lady owner. She asked us if everything was ok and I said “Actually…”. I did finish saying that we would like to change the room if possible, but did not reach the “why” part. She stopped me abruptly saying “Hotel is full!”. And she didn’t give me a second look. We are not the insistent type especially with this kind of attitude so that was it. We had reasons to believe that the hotel was not full because a day before our departure, the agency we traveled with form our country was having “super last minute offers (with 100 euro discounts)” for this hotel with checking in same day as us. So…

Anyway, our fears were founded since there was a lot of noise coming from the street during the day and music, laughs from the restaurant during the night up until 1 or 2 a.m.

As for accommodation conditions, the cleaning lady did come every day, but didn’t do much cleaning. We always found loooong black hair on the floor in the room and the bathroom and trust me, it was not ours. The towels were changed every other day, the bed sheets once. We had a problem with water pressure as, during the shower, it used to stop for 5-10 sec and then start again and so on – on and off. Quite disturbing. We knew that the AC wasn’t included in the room cost and we did need to buy it.

The breakfast was basic for a 3-stars hotel. We didn’t see any fruits or olives though. The egg omelette was either diluted with water or from egg powder because it had no taste. The boiled eggs were hard as a rock. We liked the pancakes, croissants, feta cheese. The dinner consisted of dishes cooked in the oven in different combinations of meat (chicken, pork, lamb) and vegetables (potatoes, mushrooms etc). They also served pasta, soup, fruits (watermelon every evening, grapes just once), ice-cream.

The main restaurant, Kostas, is quite ok. We ate there twice, the plates were plentiful and tasteful. We had 10% discount because we were hotel customers.

We did love the hotel position, just a few meters away from the beach which was a sandy one, but with rocks in the water.

Room Tip: Not one facing the street or above the restaurant
